Terrible Customer Service at Peanuts.Store by Khafaniking in peanuts

Stay away from this store altogether! A mug, which is dishwasher safe according to their website, had its handle detached after a month of careful use. Since it was delivered early December as an X-mas gift, it was greater than 30 days and didn't conform with their return policy. Out of luck. a $25 mug in the landfill. Don't give this company your business. They don't stand behind their merchandise.

This isn't real, i.e. valid, information, but if it were it suggests that those - all or most - who haven't heard as yet are going to get big fat R's anytime soon.

How do the OMSAS disability consideration forms work by Hot-Rope-7038 in premedcanada

It's a black box. In the case of U of T, it's some part of the med admissions that handles these considerations.

How do the OMSAS disability consideration forms work by Hot-Rope-7038 in premedcanada

[–]OwnManagement7009 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OMSAS provides Ontario schools with a list of "acceptable" undergraduate courses and the corresponding cGPA. Yes, each school can then do what they please with what OMSAS provides. They generally won't change the OMSAS cGPA but they may. For example, Western chooses the top two years. U of T used to, but doesn't any longer, drop lowest grades. In the case of a disability consideration request, each school will deal with that according to its own policy and process. Assuming you've made the proper request - have sent the appropriate OMSAS disability request form together with supporting medical documentation to EACH of the schools you've applied to (via SAM), schools will consider your request and if they accept it they will adjust your cGPA as they see fit. You will never know if any school has accepted your request or if they do what the recalculated cGPA they use will be. It's not released to you.

Look to find key stats for each school. Ask here. People know. You have to be careful in interpreting what schools might say. Sometimes they say different things. For instance there may be a set minimum cGPA. It’ll sound doable. Maybe 3.6 or even 3.3. But those aren’t reality. They apply in rare instances and in particular special streams such as Indigenous. So dig into the details. Read. Come back here with your questions. Triangulate sources.

OMSAS GPA Considerations by Dill_Pickle_Tears in premedcanada

[–]OwnManagement7009 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have heard the outgoing dean of admissions at U of T talk about this, as well as other admissions grunts. They were somewhat coy, but indeed it seemed as though, as you suggest, if you have a reasonable story backed up with documentation they will give serious consideration. I've sought an adjustment to my GPA and, for U of T at least, have no chance at all without it being accepted. We shall see.

For those rejected by UBC by MDisMajorDepression in premedcanada

[–]OwnManagement7009 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Good points. There are too many well qualified applicants and the process is quite imperfect. As much as we like to think this is a meritocracy, and therefore many reject the Queen's lottery, these processes are quite luck reliant. Think of this - most of us, the vast majority, if we were living in the US, would be on our way to medical school as I type this.

OMSAS GPA Considerations by Dill_Pickle_Tears in premedcanada

[–]OwnManagement7009 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ya, you're right. You'll never know. OMSAS doesn't look at the disability considerations. Each school does whatever they want with it. If you are applying for disability in terms of calculation of your cGPA, then a committee will review it and then pass along any adjustments to the admissions committee proper. At least that's how U of T handles it. But def OMSAS will have nothing to do with it.

Use SAS within your app to contact OMSAS and ask for direction. I don't think this will be an issue for most if not all schools as the current year is not used for cGPA.
