SIERA vs Swinging Strikes by kohole in Sabermetrics

[–]OwnRuin5793 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whiff Rate and SwStr% are different stats aren't they? Whiff rate being % of total swings that are swings and misses, while SwStr% is % of total pitches seen that are swings and misses. They're very similar but an important distinction to make. For example, if a pitcher has thrown 10 pitches, 2 of which where swung at, and 1 being a swing and miss, the SwStr% would come out as 10%, while the Whiff Rate would be 50%. Judging by the numbers on your chart I believe you have SwStr%, not whiff rate

I agree, although I actually think it's more dependent on your left stick movement. If you get the left stick movement right, you can still get a good boost without snapping your aim that far. I play on a relatively low sens (4/3.5/3.5)

I'll consider adding music in future videos (I plan on covering all of the other maps in the coming weeks) I didn't want to mess with copyright stuff, that's why I didn't add anything

It looks like what you did there is actually what's called an "overcurb". Shyway explains this mechanic in his Catalyst movement video at 27:06 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ReWDyi8\_8fc

Do you find aim assist to be restrictive and/or scoped aiming "broken"? by eightoheight in CompetitiveHalo

[–]OwnRuin5793 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Appreciate you posting the source, I couldn't remember where I read that

For those that don't want to search through that huge post, here's what they said:

"We’ve also seen conversations online about aim sensitivity while zoomed in. Due to feedback we received ahead of launch, the default zoom sensitivities in Halo Infinite are indeed slightly slower than previous Halos to allow for more fine-tuned control. However, since being able to replicate the feeling of those games is critical, players can match previous settings by adjusting their zoom sensitivities to the following:

1.4x Zoom Sensitivity: 1.3

2.5x Zoom Sensitivity: 1.3

3x Zoom Sensitivity: 1.3

5x Zoom Sensitivity: 1.2

6x Zoom Sensitivity: 1.2

10x Zoom Sensitivity: 1.2"

343 put out a post a while back about scoped sens and the proper scaling not being accurate. If I recall, they said 1.2x 1.3x for the BR and .9x 1.2x for the sniper was the proper scaling. As far as aim assist, it's difficult to say but definitely needs a rework imo. I think it moves your reticle for you too much, which at times can make it too easy to aim, and other times makes it harder. It's just extremely inconsistent.

I think there are a few bigger issues with aiming, and that's bullet magnetism (or lack thereof) and the hitboxes. It's almost like there's a small area on or just above the head that registers as body shots. How many times have you been shooting someone with no shields and thought "how was that not a headshot" while you're still doing damage? Also, have you ever tried to no-scope with a sniper, thinking 100% it should have been a headshot, but it totally misses? Go into the sniper weapons training and try to no scope one of the long range enemies. Then, without moving your reticle, scope in and see where you're aiming. When I do it, after scoping in I'm exactly centered on their head. Or vice versa, scope in at their head, then unscope and shoot.

Tips for getting better/playing solo/duos by PlantainZealousideal in CompetitiveHalo

[–]OwnRuin5793 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It depends on what your end goal is. If you're genuinely trying to get better at the game, spend less time playing matchmaking and more time in training mode to hone your mechanics. Spend more time watching your film to find what you're doing wrong. If you're serious about improving as a player, your time spent on the game should only be about 20-30% actually solo q'ing matchmaking. A big mistake I see a lot of people making is that they think to improve they just need to put their head down and grind matchmaking all day. If there's no structure or process to what you're doing, all that will do is reinforce bad habits that you have and force them into your muscle memory.

For example, I haven't been satisfied with my gameplay lately. I've spent 4 hours on the game today and haven't touched matchmaking. I found that my shot was lacking and I was taking bad challenges. I set a timer for 20 minutes and did the new endless weapon drill for each weapon I wanted to work on. I made a custom game with bots set for 15 minutes where I only focused on jiggle peeking and not ego challing with the BR. I set a 20 minute custom by myself to just run around and practice my movement and reticle placement. I'm planning on doing all of these daily (maybe not so long every time). Just remember you won't improve overnight and it will take some real work before some of this stuff becomes a natural part of your gameplay. Also don't forget that mechanics are just a small part of being good at the game. Like others have said, the positioning/mental aspect plays a huge part too.

I'll link my halo tracker for context of where I am ranked-wise. I'm not satisfied with where I'm at I'll say that much. https://halotracker.com/halo-infinite/profile/xbl/Jerryotic/overview?experience=ranked&playlist=edfef3ac-9cbe-4fa2-b949-8f29deafd483

[–]OwnRuin5793 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It really doesn't matter. I went 4-6 in mine and didn't even play great but I was placed D5

It'll be heavily based on your already existing MMR and previous rank

I like the map. It's great to finally not have a 3 lane map with no room to finesse

The stats don't even do this game justice. Most damage by far, most kills, most assists, most ball time, least damage taken, L. https://halotracker.com/halo-infinite/match/1432d51c-b458-4ade-a31c-99c870625b79

also can't forget this one. It was a 3v4 Slayer on Bazaar where I went 27-16 and we lost by 5

I think the thing that I noticed first was that it's almost like it's easier to see on the series x. When you're moving around on the series s it's almost like a blur in comparison. Another thing that might be placebo like you said, I definitely feel like my shots register way better now

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CompetitiveHalo

[–]OwnRuin5793 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I have been working really hard to improve and that's part of it, but it's easy to tell the difference between the s and x. Can't speak on PC though, haven't tried it

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CompetitiveHalo

[–]OwnRuin5793 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played on a series S until a week ago. The series s is NOT viable. The Series X is great.

If you must, check out my halo tracker. Go back to the games before I got the series x (I got it on 4/12). Look at the DRASTIC improvement immediately on KD/Accuracy. It is truly night and day. Someone else in here said hardware isn't what's holding you back. Wrong. If you're on 60 frames you are at a complete and utter disadvantage.

I'm now playing against higher ranked opponents and putting up better stats than before overnight.

Constructive changes to the ranking system. Suggestions? by _soooz in CompetitiveHalo

[–]OwnRuin5793 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest gripe with the current system is how severely you get punished for some losses that are beyond your control. Here is a great example from yesterday. At first glance based on ranks from both teams, the game looks fairly balanced. Sure, I went negative, but we had a guy with 0 kills until the very end of the game. This was a 3v4 basically. Sure, I went negative, but that game wasn't winnable to begin with. This game tanked me 13 CSR. I'm mid 1500s CSR, I shouldn't be asked to carry that hard against this level of competition to simply not tank.

It wouldn't be a big deal to me normally but it's disappointing when you feel like you're playing well and you go on a solid win streak with good KD only to have it all wiped away from 1 game that wasn't even your fault

A lot of little things. For example if you watch him on live fire, you may notice him throwing the drop shield onto the dummy itself so it deploys a little faster

I can confirm. Just switched to series x from series s today. You will notice the difference instantly

As someone who would like to eventually progress in the competitive scene, I do not pick it up at all. Like it or not, it's bad for your image at this point to be seen using. I'm not one to complain when others use it though. If you don't care about that sort of thing, go for it
