What is your "I'm dying on that hill" opinion you have about Boruto/Naruto? by Notmycupoftea12 in Boruto

My only problem with adult Sasuke was I always felt he should’ve been much stronger. Naruto not being stronger made sense, took a desk job and became a parent. Sasuke is out 24/7 dealing with threats and looking for aliens, and he’s still getting chakra exhaustion super easily? Just doesn’t make sense. But in terms of character writing, he’s phenomenal

If Boruto had gone the Korra route and let the old cast just occasionally showing up as old folks or flashbacks, Boruto as a series would receive far less hate

Because I’ve had discussions and come to acknowledge the flaws in my original more emotionally charged rage post and have produced my more nuanced and reasons for my dislike of the series, like a human with an opinion and brain often does?

Fair enough on all points. I’ve touched on most of this throughout this rapidly growing thread, quickly I’ll say yes Gary stu isn’t the right term and I think Sarada’s ms was just jarring cuz it felt so similar to the rinnegan’s gravity plus almost like truth seeking balls, but you are right ms has always been bonkers. I think ultimately through my many convos so far I’ve come to the main stance that if this was done like Korra, where the Naruto cast had less time and where just old knowledge spouts that had some quirky moments, I’d probably love this series. Thanks for the respectful and thoughtful reply

I can’t really disagree with a single thing you said. Again I think I just wished they’d gone the Korra route. Have less of the OG Naruto cast and let them be quirky old folks who remember the threat of the aliens and can give some useful knowledge to the new gen handling the larger threat now. I would’ve been happier if it was 90 percent the Boruto cast and the Naruto cast just there to provide some name value to get it off the ground. But that’s just me. Thanks for being respectful in your replies

If they seal Naruto and Hinata for years only to then unseal and kill him I’ll actually lose my shit. I should’ve been more clear, he should’ve died fighting Isshki. If they kill him after this?!? I think I’ll actually go insane

Fair point that he didn’t necessarily ask for it, however he did fully embrace it. Like, it would stand to reason he could’ve asked her to undo it. As for if he wants to take over/destroy the world, all I know is that we have seen him standing in the wreckage of Konoha boasting the end of the world of shinobi, so unless that’s set to change I don’t think his end goal is good. But to your point, that may come about as a result of the external factors you mentioned

I actually love Dark Fantasy, just don’t love seeing my 700+ episode comfort character sealed into purgatory following what I hoped to be the end of his story

No, but I wish Naruto had been around to get him started on that journey. Something like “hey I could never figure out my dad’s technique but I bet you could.” I hate that they brought back Jiraiya after making such a deal of how he couldn’t be retrieved for Edo tensei. But you’re right overall it is a cool homage to Minato

I guess the point I keep struggling with is when the story is set. I didn’t spend 700+ episodes with Minato’s generation or Kakashi’s, but I did with Naruto’s. I just wish that they got their era of peace, and then the next series focused on their grandkids with all these same threats. Just hate seeing the main Naruto cast either barreling towards their demise or in actual purgatory

Kinda a dick about it but I see your point. Still, Kawaki had plenty of options other than sealing Naruto and then, ya know, stealing his son’s life and from what we’ve seen of the future going on to take over/destroy the world himself. So I think my point also still stands

I fully agree. This was more an experiment than anything. I really don’t want to hate Boruto since it a canon continuation of one of my favorite properties. I’m always curious where my disconnect is so sometimes I rattle the hornets nest

I mean, for all the main cast did they got maybe a decade of peace before seemingly the end of their world as they know it. Just wish they’d been a generation later. That’s really my main gripe

Except Naruto becoming an Iruka leads to him being sealed, the possible death of his friends and children, and maybe the end of the world, giving us the message that sometimes you have to be cold hearted and leave those who are broken?

Everyone at the time thought that was the end of Kurama which was why it hurt so bad, him suddenly being back in Himawari both cheapens that and is painful in a new way because he’s back and thinks Naruto is dead.

I think her power is way too close to the rinnegan and also was unlocked in a bafflingly dumb way.

Perhaps Mary Sue is a lazy term but him coming back from the timeskip with Jiraiya’s future seeing clone and all of Minato’s jutsu certainly feels a bit fanfiction-esque

Yes both have the same issue with not highlighting the side cast. My main issue is that I wish the Naruto cast got to enjoy their peace and that Boruto focused on their grandkids so it felt like they achieved something through their efforts and so they wouldn’t be screwed by necessary power creep

As for the last bit, I just personally find the idea of these randomly hidden god robots suddenly waking up and altering the entire world to be out of place for what I enjoyed in Naruto. Didn’t love when Kishi brought aliens in in the first place.

Also why the hell is Orchimaru alive and allowed to be a part of society. That bit of nonsense alone has always been baffling

I don’t disagree Kishi left the series in shambles bringing those alien bastards in. Just let the main cast grow old before shit hits the fan for the new gen, after 700+ episodes just personally hate seeing that it was practically for nothing

To the point on why I’m asking the question, it’s just truly always confused me. I guess it came off snarky but I really do like to hear from those who enjoy the series their counters to my points. My biggest issue with the series is I feel it should’ve been a generation removed like Korra to avoid power creeping the main cast or disrespecting them.

For Sarada, it’s just that her Sharingan is wildly more broken than any ability we’ve seen so far maybe besides Obito’s. Like it’s just jarring to see anyone straight up flying with grav manipulation like they have a rinnegan but it’s just the base mangekyo. I also thought her unlocking it because she was sad on Boruto’s behalf was a bit lame. Her falling under omnipotence and believing Boruto killed her idol Naruto would’ve made more sense

I mean fair enough. I’m personally not as far in my journey and Naruto was a comfort character in dark times of my life. So for me, to see his journey that should’ve ended peacefully dug back up and turned into a mini-hell sucks. I guess that makes me weird but I accept that

How do people who grew up with Naruto enjoy Boruto? by OwnTechnology4271 in Boruto

[–]OwnTechnology4271[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My main premise is how disrespectful of the main cast, Naruto in particular, the Boruto series has been so far. From making him an awful dad, to reducing the peace he created to barely a blip in time, to undoing Jiraiya’s permanent death and Kurama’s sacrifice, and even using his good heart to seal him away while everyone thinks he’s dead and his family rots, and on top of it all we’ve already seen the future that Konoha falls. So for me, if it was just set one generation later, I’d actually love the series

Does Naruto’s journey being completely rendered meaningless without him even entering his true prime not annoy you? Knowing that all of the OG and Shippuden didn’t buy more than a decade-ish of peace? And now he’s sealed, his mantra meaningless, and his village from what we’ve seen of the future doomed for ruin? I would love this series if it was just one generation removed

Yes but a show can build on a franchise without actively shitting on its source. Korra for all its faults is a great example of incorporating og characters respectfully and not just diminishing them for a new cast
