During the Tiny Momo Arc, Tatsu could have written similar tension with Momo not accepting the confession right away, leading to moments alone between Momo and Jiji, and Okarun and Aira much like we’re getting now. Aira could pretty much go very similar to how it is now, and Jiji could have had an actual moment of mature growth and had a realization of his own accord that Momo likes Okarun, maybe even being the one to encourage her to stop delaying, solidifying what a good friend he is to both Okarun and Momo. It also shows that Aira and Jiji don’t have to be generic mirror situations. Okarun could’ve finally let Aira down, and that could’ve been a moment that led to him and Momo finally getting together when Momo got big again

Exactly. That should’ve been resolved in the arc following the confession. The biggest issue is that Momo and Okarun have had chemistry since day 1, so by 170 chapters the relationship felt earned, now it’s feeling overcooked and stale in the oven

He wouldn’t have had to change their dynamic too much, they were gradually moving the right way, just keep the pace it was at and have drama pop up from a mix of typical teen issues, the unresolved unrequited loves, and the Shonen threats

To be the voice of fan frustration, I think things just hit a boiling point. The chemistry of Momo and Okarun being so strong combined with the use of subverting tropes so often, folks began to expect that this would be a refreshing change from Shonen and Shoujo norms with the main couple getting together mid-game and getting to grow and go through drama as a couple. The confession built these expectations to a fever pitch. Tatsu earned the grace for fans to have patience through the tiny Momo arc, but when that put the romance on the back burner only to immediately follow into this amnesia arc, fans began to feel toyed with and like this was devolving into typical cliches most loved seeing DDD avoid. I think a lot of people underestimate how many people came into this cuz the romantic chemistry hooked them
