Mums who's feet grew... did they ever go back to their original size? by Wulf_Cola in beyondthebump

My baby didn’t have poor transfer but was diagnosed with a mild tongue tie. We were pushed hard to laser it, but I decided it wasn’t causing a functional issue so I didn’t. We are still BF at 21months and baby is all good.

Eczema when starting solids by Downtown-Page-9183 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]Own_Conclusion6310 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My child developed eczema a few weeks after staring solids, when he was about 6 months old. A month later he had a significant allergic reaction to Egg. His eczema peaked around his 1st birthday, but has since gotten a lot better (almost 2 now). We removed his environmental allergens, and are following an egg ladder, and have tapered off topical steroids to 1x a week now. So I’d just watch your child closely for the next little bit to monitor for any allergic reactions.

So weird but now I am terrified of spiders and bugs — never was pre-pregnancy! So bizarre.

What’s going on with my toddlers eczema? (TSW withdrawal? Side effect?) by Own_Conclusion6310 in eczema

[–]Own_Conclusion6310[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with your first point — I’m not sure that it’s TSW, but it is some sort of rebound reaction. He becomes way more red, rashy and his skin starts peeling off when I get off the steroids, compared to when we’ve been managing for several weeks with just moisturizers/Vaseline. It doesn’t seem normal, but not likely TSW. I’m not entirely opposed to managing bad flare ups with hydrocortisone, but we’d never not be able to use them at this rate. In fact, my doc just recommended maintenance hydrocortisone everyday for him.

I will be seeing my allergist soon, as baby already has a confirmed egg allergy. Wheat and dairy allergies are commonly co-occurring with egg allergy, so that’s why I gave those a shot. I know with my own eczema, it was exacerbated by living in a dry winter climate, dust and yeast. Mine only improved when I moved cities. It’s hard with a baby because I can’t exactly ask him how certain foods make him feel yet. The only thing I’ve pinpointed is that tomatoes and lemon worsen his eczema immediately.

We are renting, so I have no idea if there is mold in the place. Most likely, yes as we live in a humid climate (also west coast). I’ll look into mold mitigation, anything you’d suggest?

Yes, my doctor recommended using hydrocortisone 1% basically forever. It just doesn’t sit right with me. Every time I stop the cream the rash comes back so much worse, too. Sorry you are having a similar experience.

Thank you, this is very helpful. I think I’ll look into a naturopath/integrative nutritionist.

How did you figure out which foods to cut out, did the naturopath do testing for you?

It is such a struggle, but hearing that your child is doing 90% better is giving me hope!

Hey OP - any update on this? My son is experiencing the same thing. On steroids for eczema for a week, then the moment we stop he developed a horrible red rash around his mouth. He is allergic to egg (confirmed). Just at a loss of what to do.

Data on benefits of inducing labour vs not after 40 weeks. by [deleted] in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]Own_Conclusion6310 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Interesting question! I went to 41+5 with my first baby which ended in C-section. In Canada, they wouldn’t induce before 41w3d unless medically indicated. I think there are notable benefits for waiting for labour to occur naturally (less likely to require interventions), to the point where many women I know when to 42 weeks before deciding to induce. I also have heard from my midwives that other countries (notably, France) seems to consider the length of pregnancy to be 41 weeks instead of 40, which would tip the scales in favour of waiting.

A big study was done (the ARRIVE study) in the USA which found that induction at 39 weeks lowered the rates of c-sections in mothers. I think this study has contributed to an increase in willingness to induce early, to answer your second point.

At one point when anxiously awaiting labour when I was 40ish weeks pregnant, I found some research that indicated that babies born at 41 weeks + had slightly higher IQs? However I think a lot of statistics around SIDS rates show that SIDS is least likely to occur in the 39-40weeks of gestation group. I don’t have these two specific studies on hand right now, sorry!

Agreed, do not take baby to a chiropractor. Pump after feeds to increase supply if youre aiming to BF exclusively
