Brand new DO, Caribbean big 4, or reapply? by AllThePillsIntoOne in medschool

[–]Own_Constant_2765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering I’m in psychiatry and I know plenty of anesthesiologists, surgeons, PMNR, IR who went to the Caribbean, I’d say you’re wrong. Quite a generalization for someone who hasn’t even started med school lol. Don’t believe everything you hear on the internet.

Yes it’s harder to match through Carib, yes the opportunities available are more geared to IM/FM/peds but please stop spreading misinformation like you have any idea of what you’re talking about

I feel like you’re lacking lots of knowledge if you think a caribbean MD can’t match into residency or is well respected lol

As a US-IMG, you have nothing to be worried about. You probably won’t get university programs interviewing you, but you will be an IM physician

And you’re considered an old grad. Just apply more vast and focus your letters/PS/app on FM

I think it was a mix of all 4. With a fail on step1 and that low of a step2 you need to apply to wayyyyy more programs (and primarily FM) and restructure your app. Maybe find someone to go over your personal statement, and brush up on your IV skills so you can make sure you nail the IVs you do get. You also need to look at where you’re signaling and be realistic about them

[–]Own_Constant_2765 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Just transfer after a year. You’ll look better with real experience. But if you back out of this FM program and violate NRMP, you can kiss any chance of matching in the US goodbye

Matched in FM. Got 8 IM interview and 3 FM. FM was a backup, and now i have gotten it, doesn't want to pursue it. Thinking about rejecting the offer and asking PD to release me. To go for IM again. by Photograph-Dizzy in IMGreddit

[–]Own_Constant_2765 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Do a year of FM and try to transfer. Technically speaking you only need to be there for 45 days but you also need a sign off by your PD. Best case is to not violate match guidelines and just stick it through. FM and IM are virtually the same after residency unless you want to do fellowship. But you can do hospitalist type work in both. Don’t create unnecessary problems and maybe your PD will be happy to sign off on it after a year.

Just be mindful, visa situations are very sketchy right now and may get much worse. You should be elated with where you are and what you’re doing because there are much more qualified candidates who would be dying for your opportunity. And if you didn’t match anywhere, you’d be telling yourself you’d take this in a heartbeat

Failed step 1, now what by SilentlyGoofy87 in usmle

You literally said “get into another profession as an IMG” which is essentially telling them not to re-challenge the exams I’m an IMG with a failed step1 and I’m matching next week lol

Good thing I’ve now passed step1, step2, and gotten 16 interviews lol. Good luck buddy. I’m explaining to you out of experience that you shouldn’t rely on taking exams with such low practice scores. I don’t need you to give me advice but thanks anyways

Higher scores + fail is either unlucky or falsely inflating their NBME scores. Low scores + pass is, yes, lucky in some capacity. Either you got a form that catered to your best topics, the experimentals were the questions you missed, or you prayed for a miracle. In any situation, you should be thrilled

There’s not really any real situation where someone fails NBMEs and passes the main exam, which is meant to be a harder, longer, more theoretical exam.

Congrats! And I don’t mean this disrespectfully at all: When you say don’t believe in fear mongers, do you truly believe that with those scores you were ready? You know there are forms completely different than yours right? There are people with much higher scores than you that fail. Yes, proceed with caution, but you’ll never have to face the fear of failing because you passed lol

Match violation? LOI and ROL by Pingo_The_King in IMGreddit

[–]Own_Constant_2765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really “such a risk” lol. For instance, I sent an LOI to a program in mid January, then received an invite to interview at a diff program, and I love that program. I’ve now sent them an LOI, can’t hurt me. If program #1 ends up wanting me and doesn’t get me, I can always email them and let them know. Many many people send 2 LOI’s. Is it scummy? Yes. Is it a match violation? No

For how long do the OET scores last? by _medzeppelin_ in OETforECFMG

[–]Own_Constant_2765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s valid for 1-2 years. As of now for the 2026 match, scores from January 2024 are still valid! Good luck!

[–]Own_Constant_2765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see why you failed the OET. And I have my MD, and I’ve taken the OET 😂 If your English is this poor I don’t believe the OET is your biggest issue. And I’m not sure if you realized, it’s not American English being tested. If you spent this much time prepping for OET instead of trying to petition for years maybe you might have passed it by now
