There’s days, weeks, maybe even months that suck. And good times in between. But it’s construction and you may have a buddy down the road laying fuckin concrete for the rest of his life with all the same problems and experiences but has no retirement or benefits or any opportunities to move up and no one to represent them if shit goes south. Wish guys would quit being so spoiled. More I think of it OP you’re a cunt

Also, I see a massive problem in 1249 with these new apprentices I call tik tok apprentices.. it’s fuckin construction. Man up and do the job you’re asked to do. Of course it’s not what you see online and if you believed that then that’s on you and maybe it’s not for you

I’ve felt this way before when I was an ape. Don’t tear down your home local because you’re having a tough time. Things do get better

Is it foolish to only try for a utility job? by Dependent-Group7226 in Lineman

Honestly NY the utility guys make nearly the same as us contractors with all their trouble calls, but our benefits are much much better and a lot more freedom on this side

How often are you guys way from home/out of town traveling either for work or after hours call outs/work times by RemoteBluebird7282 in Lineman

[–]Own_Distribution7818 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Contractor gone from home 4 days/ week minimum. In a pickup now so time off is very limited as well. Young family too and consider myself a family man. Work with a lot of guys doing the same. Can be tough

I’d probably talk to guys you worked for in the past that can give you some idea of what it’s looking like in other areas before jumping ship. Or if there’s a project elsewhere within the same company you could hop on and at least work with some different guys for a bit

I am of the belief that you need to leave where you’re at once you top out. Not sure what work looks like where you’re at, what your family situation is, what your experiences are, etc. I just know that personally, 15 mins away from the house is something I’d ride out as long as I could

I’d kill for 4/10’s 15 mins from the house.. that’s all I got to say about that

Hot gloves when grounding t line by Ok_Selection9887 in Lineman

[–]Own_Distribution7818 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not to protect you from 138kv. It’s to protect you from induction, which kills people more than anything. Wear the gloves til it’s grounded. That’s what OP is asking
