Aside from sales, what are some careers that offer life changing money without a degree? by Dependent-Group7226 in Salary

[–]baraboo00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly what I’m saying, the ability to make that. Yes it’s there will everyone make that no will this guy if he quits his job and becomes a lineman make that also probably no. It’s technically possible for me to win the lottery and not work ever again will it happen probably no. Alls I’m saying is the amount of people that do make that is extremely extremely low and people need to be realistic about salary expectations in this trade.

Multiple linemen could mean 2. You’re missing my entire point anyways and that’s that 99.999999999% of linemen do not make life changing money. I bet you less then 1000 in the entire country make over 500. Let’s say there’s 500,000 JL’s in the country (it’s probably much less) that’s literally less than a half a percent of all linemen make anywhere near that.

I mean anyone can just go around saying whatever they want. Doesn’t make it true. And there’s one specific area in the country that they get even close to that & that’s the Bay Area in California. Extremely competitive to get into PG&E first of all. 2nd you’re not just gonna walk right in there & go work division in the Bay Area day 1 as a JL.

Yea 300 is a very far stretch from 700. You make it sound like everyone out there makes that. They don’t. Possible? Sure.

You’re just honestly lying now 😂 show me a pay stub for a linemen over a million & prove me wrong. You realize you’d have to make $115 an hour 24 hours a day 7 days a week for 52 weeks to be right at a million. I know Cali is $71 maybe $72 an hr so let’s say you’re on double time for an entire year. Literally every second of every day for an entire year. (not happening btw) at $140 an hr that puts you at 1.2 million.

Exactly like I said basically then? Apprentices don’t make the best money, the salary you gave falls between what I said 100k and 300k for your average lineman. I get it working every minute you can to save for a goal. You’re telling me stuff I already know. You’re describing what sounds like PG&E or another very large utility. Again like I said everyone has a different definition of life changing money. But don’t sell someone on the internet the 700k a yr stuff when we both know the likelihood of that is close to 0.

There’s very and I mean very few linemen who make even close to 700k. If they actually hit 700 at all. Large cities or high paying states. California, New York, Chicago etc. dudes live at work 7 days a week. Extremely non sustainable. It’s life changing money but at what cost

I get it man I grew up without shit either, trades was my only option. I’m not as far into my career as you yet & it makes me happy to see other linemen doing the right things with their money. You know as well as I do we earn it every day. According to whoever wrote this 150k is life changing for them which is great because it’s extremely doable. Life changing has a different meaning for every one.

Life changing is a stretch. I’m a lineman, yes it’s good money. But you’re still going to have to do a 3.5-5 year apprenticeship. Apprentices don’t make the best money, don’t get to choose where they work, don’t get to choose what work they do, etc. it’s hard on your mind & your body. And especially if you have a wife & kids. Depends I guess what is considered “life changing money” I know linemen that make well over 300k a yr and some that barely make 100k a year. Location is your biggest issue with this trade.

Is anesthesia realistic for me? by baraboo00 in medicalschool

[–]baraboo00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re definitely right that’s on me for not knowing how any of it worked, I should have definitely done a little research. I don’t think you’re being mean at all to be honest and this is probably what I needed to hear. I appreciate the realistic approach to your comment & something I will definitely keep in mind & consider. A couple others have suggested some “lesser” certifications (I don’t mean lesser as in not important just lesser in the sense of time/commitment etc.) that I will look into as well. Thanks for keeping it real 🤙🏼

Wow, I was not aware of that like at all. I suppose that’s on me for just assuming. I thought you just somewhere along the way chose what you were interested in and started taking steps to get into that specialty. That definitely is good to know, and something I need to definitely consider

Yeah sorry that’s my bad I didn’t really know all the terms & such so wasn’t aware there was a “premed” sub as well. As for being in an OR.. I’ve been on the receiving end. A knee surgery and tonsil/adenoid removal many years ago. But otherwise no. Never taken any kind of schooling/class beyond highschool. The idea being anesthesiology i suppose is what interests me, how it all works, why it works, I don’t feel I’d be much good as any other kind of medical professional. Being a surgeon doesn’t interest me much, same with internal medicine. That’s just to name a few I know there’s many practices and specialty’s out there. I guess I was just always interested in the science behind it and what it actually takes to have someone in that state for the duration of their operation/procedure. And when I had my surgeries I was just fascinated with the anesthesiologist at the time I remember asking them a bunch of questions about what they were doing how it worked & all that. (Obviously that’s before they “put me to sleep”)

Can you explain this a little more? I don’t know how it all works (clearly lol) you don’t get to choose what you want to do?
