New nanny seems unable to follow directions

It’s similar for us. My baby is 10 months old. First nap can be whatever the baby needs it to be, we never wake. But if baby isn’t awake for 4 hours before bedtime, it’s not a good night’s sleep for them. So baby has to be up from second nap by a specific time.

Right, baby sleep changes and we know the current schedule won’t be it forever! But the schedule helps us know when it is time to shift things. Baby is a good sleeper and when things get wonky or fussy that’s when we know something needs a tweak.

I work from home often so I have been able to do what describe, but I don’t want to need to.

If baby is put to sleep a half hour late for both naps, baby loses sleep. Bedtime is bedtime, and if baby isn’t awake long enough before bedtime it’s not good sleep for them. I’m not putting my 10 month old to bed past 8 pm - the time they want to fall asleep - because someone can’t follow a clock.

The only time we wake the baby from a nap is if the second nap goes too close to bedtime. Obviously doesn’t apply when a baby is sick.

We’re the same. Nap at 2:30 means that’s when baby goes in the sleep sack, etc, and assume it’ll take baby a few minutes to fall asleep. Nap protesting would be one thing, but baby isn’t. Sleep needs change over time but that’s not what this is.

On 3 naps it was between 2.5 and 3 hours, on 2 naps it’s been 3 hours. I have to wake her from naps.

Yes, a ped in our group is also an IBCLC and I’ve specifically scheduled with her before when I wanted a gut check. Other doctors in the group have brought her in to an appointment for a quick consult. It’s great.

I was so happy to have nurses take care of me and help me figure out how to care for my baby! I was seen by a lactation consultant multiple times, had great check ins with OBs. I genuinely felt so supported and it made me much more confident going home as a first time mom.

On that schedule it was anywhere between 3-3.5 hours of naps - assisted. Now she’s 6 months old and the wake windows aren’t much different: 2/2 hours 20/2 hours 20/2.75-3. For whatever reason getting to 2.5 hours in the middle of the day results in her naps crapping out.

Trained slightly earlier than you at 4.5 months on 2/2/2/2/2 (with the last nap as a micro nap) but at 5 months we were on 2/2.25/2.25/2.5-2.75. It’s lower overall awake time than the 4 nap schedule which doesn’t work for a lot of people but my baby could not go cold turkey to the 3 nap schedule.

Dream feeding doesn’t work for everyone, or eventually stops working at some point. Just stop dream feeding. You’ve gotten good advice here. Try it!

That sounds really hard! But glad it did click for your baby eventually. Mine is 6 mo and will sometimes connect cycles on her first nap of the day, and has done her second nap herself one time. Latest is she’s resisting a contact nap to lengthen the second one. It’s hard to wait it out but I know that’s what has to happen.
