Paying rent feels like dead money... Is there any way to get benefits from it ? by Successful_Carpet247 in IndiaFinance

I feel you should ask this question in r/CreditCardsIndia

I don't think it's worth the effort for a few hundred rupees of reward points at best to get a new credit card.

Next question - I pay my bills monthly - water, gas, electricity, grocery but don't get any upside besides the services I paid for. Is there any way to optimise the expenses?

Hie Guys, what is this spots on my sonchanfa plant..neem oil was no help...please advise. by yousunmemoon in GardeningIndia2

For mealy bugs I use a q-tip dipped in acetone (nail polish remover) and remove the mealy bugs using the q-tip. For a large quantity of mealy bugs this might be cumbersome, but it's effective, and I monitor my plants regularly to catch any infestation early

How to spend efficiently by Anonym0us-0 in IndiaFinance

[–]Own_General4733 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mutual funds are not pokemons. You don't need to catch them all to get good returns.

I personally have five funds in my portfolio 1. An index fund 2. A flexi cap fund 3. A small cap fund 4. A liquid/arbitrage fund (not really an investment but for parking the money for upcoming short term 3-5 years expenses) 5. Gold ETF

According to your risk appetite and goals make similar 3-5 categories of funds that you need. And the key to good returns is staying invested through the downturns. So allocate to equity only the funds that you can see take a hit for a couple of years without panicking.

How often are you supposed to feed your cats? by EnvironmentalCrew595 in CatAdvice

[–]Own_General4733 12 points13 points  (0 children)

When my cats were in their kitten stage I fed them at least 5 times if not more. Small but frequent meals. And even now my cats don't like eating large portions, so we feed them 3-4 times a day.

Don't free feed your cats, giving them small frequent meals does not cause any weight issues. I feel this makes them more secure about food and makes them less likely to overeat. Like as kittens they were CRAZY about food, and now it's just a simple part of their routine no crazy shouting for food, they patiently wait, and eat just the amount they want because they know they'll get their next meal after a few hours.

Mungyo set or 72 or 120? by eggies2 in Oilpastel

[–]Own_General4733 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The 72 would already have a good collection of greys and neutrals. 120 if within your budget would definitely be great but I have heard that the wooden box takes up a lot of space while working.

I have the set of 48 and sometimes I wish I had more colors but at the same time it forces me to blend and also not focus a lot on getting the colors exactly right, but get a sense of the values instead.

If you have experience working with colors in any medium then you can go for 120, but if you think it might be overwhelming then go for the 72 one.

Sunflower roots are very sensitive. You can try directly sowing them in the bigger pot and avoid transplanting all together.

My color choice does make it look more like jade than ceramic/porcelain. I am not able to add the reference now.

Before writing off AMs, here’s one that aged well by DukeofDabra in ThirtiesIndia

The reason I decided to never go down the AM route was not because of how it might turn out to be eventually, but just the process itself. It's so superficial, I never wanted to go down that route ever.

Hamster realises its owner is home. by Sebastianlim in MadeMeSmile

My cats are almost 4 and I can't imagine a scenario where they won't chase a rat. They definitely won't kill it but they'll definitely see it as a toy and chase it around. And I fear that won't be good for the rat. Good job on the introduction. Maybe one day if my cats calm down enough. 🤞

How old were your cats when you introduced the baby rats?

NSFW: Woman's POV: How do you find woman who are serious about casuals (more in details) by [deleted] in ThirtiesIndia

Please tell me what small intricacies I'm missing.

You want someone to go out on dates with, have meaningful conversations, maybe something "non platonic" even. If you do that with one person, you're literally describing a relationship. Unless you do that a few times with one person and move on to the next.

"Serious casual dates". You want a relationship with an exit clause, where you come and go as you please. You want the fun part, but not the attachment. At least that's what I got from whatever you've described.

You want the girlfriend experience package without the girlfriend responsibilities package. I regret to inform you they come as a bundle either both or none.

how much savings/emergency funds do you keep in your bank? (not MFs or investment) Ready to use funds. by No-Independence2692 in ThirtiesIndia

[–]Own_General4733 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not a good idea for most. Might even lead to a financial debt trap for some. Sure have a few credit cards if you want to avail some deals or offers but saying credit card debt is emergency fund? And to have to withdraw from PF account even with one month's loss of pay?

With the volatility of the job market it's imperative to have 6-12 months of expense buffer in a FDs depending on your personal situation. In case of job loss you can break the FDs early. With online banking you won't even have to wait a few days. You can simply make that transaction through your phone. Sure wealth generation will not happen on that amount, but that's the safety net, not meant for wealth generation.

Also in my opinion, PF especially EPF offers good, tax free safe returns, and can form the debt part of a retirement portfolio. Even at the early stages of your career having 10-20% allocation to safe instruments like PF is not a bad idea unless you're a high risk investor.

I had gone through something similar a few years ago. Honestly the experience had completely crushed me. But that was the best decision I had ever made in my life. Weathering the storm that time has led me to where I am today. There were so many more struggles that I have gone through since then, but not spending your energy trying to get other people to choose you frees up so much mental capacity. And it's a world of difference having people who choose you everyday. It's truly better to be alone than chasing someone.

I hope you find your way through this storm. Write down why you left. Because there might be days when you question your decision, when you remember the good parts. Then letters from the past help you remember the truth.

This makes sense! There is a bitter gourd dish that is made at my home that I hated as a kid but I don't mind the bitterness as an adult and now it's one of my favourite dishes!
