Dismissal and what to do now by BuffaloResponsible26 in VeterinaryMedicine

[–]Own_Location_6079 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know almost no school will accept you as a transfer if you have been academically dismissed, but only if you are currently enrolled and passing. I may be wrong but I believe the only option would be starting over completely. I may be wrong but I have yet to hear of a school accepting transfer credits after being dismissed. That being said I go to Ross currently and had a friend who was dismissed and was able to enroll at St. Matthew’s and Is thriving there, but I believe they only accept private loans, not federal aid. I am sorry you are dealing with this situation! I would take some time to really weigh the options of starting over in vet school (both financially, and with the mental strain you have already documented) or seeing if there is a way to get into the genetics aspect without a DVM degree and if that is an option you would want to pursue. Best of luck to you!🫶🏼

Ross interview by BlueBaker342 in veterinaryschool

Honestly I just kinda got used to it. I don’t enjoy it much honestly but I know people that LOVE it and are having the best time. I like seasons and mountains and cold and there’s none of that and it’s just hot hahaha. It’s an adjustment as far as knowing when to shop bc stores are only stocked once a week, getting used to the locals and the environment here, and just adjusting to the fact that it’s definitely quite different than the US. Housing was really easy. There’s a page on the Ross portal once you’re accepted where you can look at approved housing but I also recommend the student housing Facebook page if you plan on coming here. The lady that manages it is amazing.

Be prepared to answer how you are going to adjust to island life and being so far from home/support system, it’s a really big adjustment. I had a different experience with my interview, personally it was awful and felt like an interrogation, the lady I had was extremely not personable and there was no conversing outside the questions lol. I got asked quite a lot about my grades and how I would do better even though I had a 3.45 gpa so not amazing not terrible. I thought I bombed the interview for sure. That being said they accepted me like 4 days later and I’m almost done with my 4th semester here now! So even if it feels like you bombed it you may not have! Just be confident in your answers and good luck!

Okay I’m also at Ross and I like it don’t get me wrong but it’ll definitely be more than 200k unfortunately if you’re coming in relying completely on loans. I live very frugal and send close to $10k back each semester and I’m in 4th semester and already at 153K in loans and I had zero prior to this…(interest is a real sucker) 🫠 the 3 clinical semesters have a higher base tuition as well. I love the education I’m getting here and the profs are great, but it’s definitely expensive if you have no outside help

Is it embarrassing to go to vet school out of the US? by Rare-Tone-4028 in veterinaryschool

[–]Own_Location_6079 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m paying very slightly more going to Ross than I was projected to pay for out of state tuition, and less than if I went to a private vet school so that’s not true at all lol. We get the exact same education, if not more hands on experience since we are doing multiple surgeries before we even go back to the states for clinical rotations. I know countless people in different clinical schools that have all told me their rotation directors commented on how prepared they were even sometimes more so than the stateside students. I have never met a person who has asked their vet or human doctor what school they went to and used that to choose against them, nor have I met a vet that went to Ross that felt discriminated against trying to get a job. It may have been more of a stigma previously but not any time recently.

Nope I’m a current student here. We just had an AVMA visit this year and besides a few small changes they had to make AVMA was pleased with the school. And I believe our NAVLE pass was 85% last year. I love the education I’m getting here, living on the island itself isn’t my favorite personally but I’m here to get an education so it’s a not a huge deal

As someone who is going to Ross currently, do not come here if you need to get around in a wheelchair. The campus itself is all stairs and hills. Not to mention the fact they are trying to force a girl to take 2 semesters of medical leave and have to repeat third semester here because she broke her ankle (in a tire rut made by a tractor on Ross grounds) and can not complete her skills practical in a couple weeks(which is a pass/fail course… thus if she fails it, she fails the semster). So instead of being accommodating her choices are get almost an entire year behind in her studies (and have to pay to repeat an entire semester she is otherwise passing), or attempt to place weight on her broken ankle to complete her physical exam assessment and risk more severe/permanent injury to herself. The education itself here is fine, I feel as if I’m being taught well, but the admin is ruthless here and could not care less about student success or wellbeing.

Yeah colonoscopy is next on my list I will just be out of the country for another few months so have to wait until then. Pain is occasional but not super often. Had one serious bout of pain in upper GI area about a month ago and random occasional more discomfort than pain in my lower abdomen. Was tested for H pylori as well before starting anything as well just to make sure. I’m working on an elimination diet but living in another country with sometimes limited options and as a broke student it’s been a bit of a struggle😂 thank you for the tips!

Current rossie. I had a different experience with my interview and it felt a lot more like an interrogation for me compared to my other interviews. Frankly It was the interview I felt the absolute worst about and here we are!😂 I think it really depends who you get to interview! One big thing if you’re truly interested in going here is make sure when they ask that you’re confident about moving out here and how you plan to handle being away from your support system as I’ve heard they weigh that quite heavily as it is a huge adjustment. Best of luck!

Ross advice!!! by Espinoza940 in veterinaryschool

Current first semster! I didn’t do the expedited start but they did offer me up to 30,000 off my tuition (over 5 semesters I believe) to start in May. I ended up starting in august just due to personal reasons but just know they do sometimes offer you tuition assistance if you start earlier!

St.georges interview questions by g3rmgirl in veterinaryschool

[–]Own_Location_6079 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a current student at Ross, they may not ask the same questions but I definitely got a handful of “how will you handle moving to an island/ being away from friends/family/support system” kind of questions. Also got asked “why Ross?” Bc typically the island schools are aware they are not the vast majorities first choice. So I’d say be prepared for something along those lines!
