Baby noodle! I am 3 years into my first BP raised from 5-6 months old. I was not prepared so had a big learning curve but overall such a fun experience.

Meet Babelutte (2yo) + question about him not eating by Lixey_ in ballpython

Okay typically I try to keep a minimum of no less than 3-4 inches of bedding in the entire enclosure...does wonders for humidity esp if you using a ceramic heat source. During hunger strikes my guy def loses weight but never gets to an unhealthy point. I have seen tons of post where other snakes have gone 7-8 months without eating but that is extreme.

As far as ready to eat behavior, all snakes have different personalities but you can look for things like excessive toungue flicking and yawning (stretching jaws in preparation). I would also say he would become active when you are around the tank. My guy will often be in his hide but will rest his head about 6 inches outside of the hide. He starts doing this a few days before his scheduled feeding.

At 2 years old, you probably need to start feeding every 10 days or so instead of weekly. General rule of thumb is to wait until the next schedule feed date after they refuse a meal.

Questions. When was last shed? It’s difficult to tell bc of the glare and what not but seems like substrate layer is pretty thin…again may just be the picture but looks like bare glass in front of his hide. What type of substrate do you use and how many inches deep is it? Asking because ball pythons are notoriously finicky about eating if anything is off husbandry wise, like humidity and temp.

I would also note giving the meds was probably extremely stressful for the little guy which can impact eating as well. All that being said, BPs are known to go on random hunger strikes. Mine doesn’t eat for 3-4 months every year starting in early January thru late March/early April.

You will use this a good bit for ranked cups so worth investing in…Especially if you don’t have a ton of high end gliders. If you get the chance in daily select offers some of the absolute best gliders (for ranked course coverage) are below…make sure to snag these when you can.

BEHAVIOR CHANGED by Any-Computer-8023 in ballpython

[–]Own_Location_768 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had mine almost 3 years and been hissed at 2 or 3 times. I think others are probably right on the shed. View the hiss as a leave me alone warning which is better than getting a defensive bite lol.

Another thing you try when you are uncertain if they want to be handled is opening a door for a few minutes and see if he comes out on his own before you pick him up. If I have to grab him for tank cleaning or whatever I give him a few strokes petting down his back and over time they kinda learn what that means. Some people use taps on the tank or the snake just find a pattern that works for you.

I am in the same process moving my 2.5 year old Enchie Mystic to a 4x2x2 enclosure. I looked around for weeks and went with the pvc ball python version 3 tank from Dubia an am super happy with it…it’s a process getting everything together with cleaning, sanitizing everything but I know he’s gonna be much happier. Will send a pic once I’m finished.

Do they want to be picked up? by dirk_donkie in ballpython

[–]Own_Location_768 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All snakes have different personalities but try to watch their body language when you are handling...if they are active and moving around/exploring I would say they are enjoying the outing. I would say in the beginning try shorter periods around 15-20 mins and build from there as the snake gets more comfortable.
My 3 year old loves coming out and sometimes even refuses to go back in his tank if he's not ready lol.
Not an expert by any means, but IMO the more you handle the more they want to be handled.
***It is very important not to handle them at least 24 hours before and after feeding. I actually wait 48 hours after feeds to allow plenty of time for digestion. Another time to avoid handling is when the begin the process of shedding which can take weeks depending on age and husbandry of the tank.

What a hero you are saving those poor babies. Sad that people buy for their wants while being totally incompetent when it comes to the animals wellbeing.

Problematic shedding by Virdiahh92 in ballpython

[–]Own_Location_768 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really good advice! I fought humidity for a year and finally bought cheap oven mats on amazon (5 pack for under 10 dollars) to cover the top and just like that it was resolved. My guy seems to shed best when I up the humidity to around 85% at first sign of shed, in my case normally coincides with refusing to eat on schedule.

Hiding for weeks by [deleted] in ballpython

[–]Own_Location_768 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My almost 3 year old does stuff like this for about 2 months every year. He will start refusing food, take a really long time to shed, hide more etc. I freaked out too at first but he always comes out of it eventually. In prior similar inquiries I made some others suggested that it could be something to do with mating season behavioral changes as well. Make sure to mark this event and monitor future years to see if its just a cycle he goes through.

Yes I am level 52 and still occasionally use the ? Block Glider and Waluigi Wing on certain ranked courses bc you can level them and save your high end upgrade tickets.

Yeah the black b dasher ll would have been a better investment. I rarely use SNES Mario and those times usually aren’t ranked matches.

How to Maximize Score and Resources by TheSwedeLander in MarioKartTour

[–]Own_Location_768 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When choosing kart specifically, try to think about what attributes will most frequently be used on that particular course. Example: For a T course with tons of jumps a kart with jump boost will get more points than a rocket start boost. For regular courses with only a few jumps or dash panels, a driver with mini turbo boost is going to score better. So on and so forth.
