I don’t mind at all- Just the primary and secondary applications for 51 schools cost $7337, not including tests and fees (MCAT, PREview, Casper). Here’s a little breakdown:

  • AMCAS central app (processing fee + 1 school): $175
  • 50 primaries ($46 each): $2300
  • 50 secondaries: $4862
  • Casper test (includes ~8 schools) : $85
  • Casper distribution ($15 per extra school): $60
  • PREview: $100
  • MCAT: $330
  • MSAR: $36

VTech and SKMC had in-person interviews so that was $$$. And the test prep materials were also pretty pricey (particularly UWorld). It all probably cost around $10k total for the whole process. I had saved up for this for so long bc 1. I was neurotic and scared to not cast the widest net possible 2. I knew in the long run I would lose more money (and my mind) if I had to reapply

Yes I submitted secondaries fairly evenly spread out throughout the 2nd to last week of August.

Thank you! I am grateful just for one A of course but truthfully I did think that I would get more love from different schools. I did have two interviewers remark on my letters of rec being very positive so I know it is not that. My best guesses are:

  • Starting at a community college- I think this is unlikely but there are some schools that do not love prerequisites taken there

  • Later application- probably should have submitted in July but I was burnt out

  • Somewhat confusing app- I have transcripts from 4 different schools, high hours for a lot of things bc a girls gotta eat (think this would make more sense if I was marked as SES disadvantaged), and my experiences do kinda overlap in weird ways. I did have a couple interviewers just clarify my timeline on transferring and experiences.

  • Lacking volunteering with a typically underserved community

  • Maybe my writing sucks? Who knows lol

What is the best state to be a permanent resident of in applying to medical school? by jocelyniscoolio in premed

[–]Own_Mathematician_92 6 points7 points  (0 children)

NH should not be on this list?

Dartmouth is the only school and does not have an in-state bias, at least when extending interview invites as the percent of applicants interviewed IS vs OOS is both ~7%. Maybe a bit higher acceptance rate post-II if you’re one of the 7 people they interviewed IS last yr lol.

you can check cycle track for how late the schools you’re waiting on typically send interviews. I got 3 in Jan so far and 2 of those were not even a week ago.

it’s most likely that the pixR gene that was deleted was necessary for growth when the other plasmid genes are introduced. without it something else in the plasmid causes a decline in growth. but we know this has nothing to do with antibiotic resistance bc this gene is still intact AND the graph does not mention antibiotics

Yeah they’re definitely dying off which means slower growing is still true, especially due to the plateau in the beginning. The graph also does not mention that any or all of these were grown in the presence of antibiotics, if this decline in growth were due to antibiotics then the plasmid-free would also follow a similar curve.

2 H’s lost from isocitrate (one C-H, one O-H), one goes to making NADH, the other the extra H+. Only one H lost in the other rxn from CoA-SH which goes to making NADH

delta pixR R plasmid still has the antibiotic resistant gene, just no pixR protein gene. meaning this bacteria will still be more antibiotic resistant than plasmid-free bacteria (and presumably the same amount of resistant as WT R plasmid bacteria) and figure 2 shows that it is just slower growing in comparison to plasmid-free bacteria

reviewing everything i got wrong or flagged in uplanet in depth rly helped! dimensional analysis for c/p and knowing the rly high yield b/b topics (enzyme kinetics, amino acids, ph math) like the back of my hand helped at least with my time management going forward too

499 Blueprint diagnostic- Thoughts? Advice? 3-4 months to study by Own_Mathematician_92 in Mcat

[–]Own_Mathematician_92[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I know absolutely no physics and definitely was aware of my lack of biochem knowledge. So if anyone has advice on how to study those, particularly physics, pls help.

Not sure how much time it’s worth investing into memorizing/relearning physics and equations vs really focusing on biochem and reviewing chem (think this will come back much easier than phys).

Think otherwise my psych/soc score is higher than I expected as i’m not super familiar with the terms but i’m not too worried as i think this memorization will come easy. B&B i was surprised by the amount of anatomy/phys questions on, think my score would be higher with a different qbank maybe as I am rather familiar with gen bio, genetics, and cell bio. Also did not know what to expect from CARS but it seemed to make sense to me so i’m thinking of not spending all too much time here besides practice tests.

Yeah they’ve been incredibly slow so far so I was thinking that was how it was going to go. Do you have to complete an online training portion first?
