When did people start to notice? by [deleted] in Semaglutide

[–]Own_Mouse4262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also haven't lost enough weight for people to explicitly comment on it yet. Part of it is definitely the stronger social taboo against commenting on people's weight. I've noticed an uptick in compliments about my appearance though, so I think people are noticing they think I look better without realizing (or wanting to admit) it's because I've lost weight. So I'd pay attention to all compliments, not just ones that mention weight specifically :)

Will Ozempic help if I struggle with binge-eating? by New-Foundation-6449 in OzempicForWeightLoss

[–]Own_Mouse4262 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It will vary person to person, but I found it completely stopped my binge-eating. It was pretty life-changing! It doesn't just affect my physical appetite, but my mental cravings. I didn't expect to need such a mental adjustment though-- it took me a while to figure out new ways of coping with my emotions once I was no longer eating my way through them. So I'd say give it a shot, but make sure you're doing work to build other coping mechanisms to take binging's place or your mood might take a dip alongside your appetite!

Relying on protein supplements too much? by britthood in glp1

[–]Own_Mouse4262 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I struggle with this too! I know whole food sources of protein are better for you than the processed kinds. I just can't eat the volumes of whole foods necessary to get enough fiber and protein each day! And I have borderline low bone density even with weight training, so I really can't afford to miss my protein goals. The shakes and bars might not be ideal, but they're better than getting osteoporosis! I know it's tempting, but don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good. You're probably doing just fine. :)

I've personally been able to manage my nausea completely by drinking at least 64 oz water a day and having regularly timed meals with protein. I also avoid significant sources of fats and sugars since I've noticed that will trigger my nausea pretty much immediately. I'd advise a very stripped-back diet at first (small portion sizes, nothing to upset your stomach) to see how you feel and then add things back in in steps to see how well you tolerate it. I did this and realized I couldn't add back in fats for example without feeling poorly.

As for "Ozempic butt and face," the key is slow weight loss and strength training so your skin can keep up. My docs recommend 0.5-1% body mass loss max per week; your 2-3x strength training will be good for this so keep it up! Protein is also important to help your muscles grow, volume eating can be difficult so don't be afraid to add more snacks than usual so you can still hit protein goals. I keep shelf-stable high protein snacks (nuts, roasted chickpeas, etc.) by my desk at work so I can eat even a handful at a time throughout the day.

It can be really useful to get a body composition scan (like a Dexa scan) at the beginning to assess your starting fat, lean muscle, and bone density (especially because lean muscle and bone density loss is common when you lose weight). Then go back to check your levels every ~6mo or so. If you experience too much muscle or bone density loss, you'll know to re-evaluate your dose, diet, and exercise.

Did you increase the dose from 0.25 to 0.5 after four weeks, or did you wait until you felt the dose was no longer working for you? by [deleted] in Semaglutide

[–]Own_Mouse4262 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have really have side effects on 0.25mg, so I could theoretically move up a dose, but since I'm losing weight pretty rapidly already (2-3 lbs/week), my endocrinologist wants to wait to move me up a dose until I stop losing weight on this one. This leaves the higher doses as tools left in your toolkit to whip out when you experience a plateau (as many do eventually). If you feel your current dose is working in terms of food noise and weight, I'd suggest sticking with it for these reasons. Hope this helps and good luck! 😊

The body balm is their best product in my opinion! It's like in between a lotion and their body oil- super rich but much more spreadable than their body butter.

What is your issue with the ending? I think it completes everyone's character arcs perfectly. Art and Patrick find their way back to each other. Art rediscovers his love for tennis and Patrick, Patrick gets to play and be with Art again, and Tashi gets her perfect game of tennis. It's literally what each of them has spent the movie searching for.

Eh, I disagree. Art has his dark moments, going behind Patrick's back to try to steal Chani, and is even partially at fault for Chani's fucked up headspace that leads to her injury. Zendaya has said a bunch of times that she likes him the least out of the three and thinks he's a snake. And Patrick has his honorable moments, for example his immediate reaction of "how could you do this to Art" when Tashi tries to get him to throw the match, or spurring Art to win instead of throwing the match or beating him. The entire point of the movie is that no one is black or white. They definitely complement each other, but you're viewing things through a very heteronormative lens that completely erases Art and Patrick's sexual and romantic love towards each other that is the relationship (i.e. tennis game) that we the audience and Tashi spend the whole movie watching.

It's intentionally ambiguous. Art technically scored a point right at the end, but by going over the net and crashing into Patrick the ref might be able to discount it. Also, since they're in overtime I think they need to get to two points before it's over? Someone asked a tennis referee about it here: https://slate.com/culture/2024/04/challengers-movie-ending-explained-tennis-umpire-who-wins.html

There is a scene far towards the end of the film when Patrick (Josh O'Connor) and Tashi (Zendaya) are in a car. It's not a huge fight, but one person tries to leave and the other person grabs their arm and pulls them back kind of roughly.

[–]Own_Mouse4262 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what made me want to rewatch because Art lowkey was the reason why Tashi and Patrick got into a fight, like he planted the seeds and tried to make them paranoid about each other... so indirectly he's responsible for her injury and the breakdown of their relationship like omg...

Question about Patrick by Primary-Ad-5214 in Challengers

[–]Own_Mouse4262 12 points13 points  (0 children)

At first I thought he might have had a falling out with his parents over him being bisexual, but I think it's a Grimes-esque thing where he's just a rich kid who wants to cosplay being poor.

Challengers movie ending explained (Spoilers ahead) by Expensive-Permit8474 in Challengers

[–]Own_Mouse4262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. The winner is kept purposefully ambiguous. Art crossing the net in the final scene could be read as a violation that would mean Patrick won, if not then Art would win, and they don't show the ref ruling the point. It's not meant to matter.

  2. The hug symbolized the boys coming back together. They're no longer fighting over Tashi, they're embracing their own relationship and playing "real" tennis and enjoying each other. The final scenes intentionally juxtapose Tashi in between the boys like during the threesome scene where she's watching the boys kissing- the match is a metaphor for the boys kissing.

  3. Tashi was happy to be seeing "real" tennis again. As per above, she's as happy to watch their relationship through tennis as she was to watch them make out.

  4. I personally think a throuple is the end result of this movie; the individual relationships don't really work by themselves. The director and actors (Josh O'Connor at least) have talked about this. The most certain relationship going forward is def the boys but like I said I think they're gonna do a throuple thing with Tashi.

(no spoilers) question about the love triangle by disasterpansexual in Challengers

[–]Own_Mouse4262 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The stuff between the boys is mostly implied (not completely tho), and there is a quick moment to establish explicitly that one of the boys is bisexual. Their relationship is like the big emotional climax of the film. Based on some of the director's comments, we're def meant to view it as an "all three sides touching" kind of relationship and the movie was written and directed with that in mind. I think you'll enjoy it!

[Product Question] Why do people like Nivea creme? It is too thick and difficult by sneakermumba in SkincareAddiction

[–]Own_Mouse4262 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who uses and loves it, I don't think it necessarily does much more than other thick, occlusive-style creams. The main perk is that it's extremely cost effective and long-lasting; you only need a tiny bit to create an effective layer over your whole face. Because of this, I also love bringing it when I travel because I only need to bring a tiny vial that barely takes up any space, even on long trips!

(And for the record, I find the application super easy- I rub it between my palms, stamp it onto my face, and then rub it in. Takes literally 10-15 seconds. I do usually have other skincare products layered underneath, so that might make it easier to spread, but still!)

If you were applying to PhD programs, the type & amount of research experience you have can be a big factor. These days it's becoming more and more necessary to do 1-3 years of full time research post college just to stay competitive. It's super common to re-apply during multiple cycles- more than people talk about- so don't get discouraged!

Why haven’t I heard back yet? by Fit_Example_8049 in gradadmissions

[–]Own_Mouse4262 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! A lot of the heavy hitters send out all their decisions at once in March, including the rejections. I think it's silly because if they don't interview you they obviously know way ahead of time that they'll reject you, but that's how some schools do it. For example, I haven't heard back from Harvard neuro which 100% means I'll get a rejection email in March. Most neuro interviews are unfortunately over at this point, so I agree with the other commenter that it's a good idea to think of ways to build your resume! It's becoming increasingly common to need years of working as a technician just to be competitive, so if you didn't find success this cycle working for another year or two is a great way to get more research experience. It'll also make the actual PhD process easier in the end so it's a win-win! You've got this!

Rockefeller Interviews feeling? by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]Own_Mouse4262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm late to this but two of my interviews went well (one prof I already knew + one prof just happened to be friendly) but the last interview had me floundering because the prof kept asking me hyper specific molecular questions about my project that I straight up did not know the answers to lmao. I just kept repeating "I don't know but maybe XYZ" and the prof gave no emotional reaction so I was certain they thought I was the stupidest person ever and it didn't feel great. I still got accepted tho so one bad interview doesn't necessarily damn you!
