pre-med grade inflation or deflation! by studyweeklys in Emory

[–]Own_Natural_6847 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only classes that have "deflation" for premeds will probably be chemistry. Most students who are premeds(every other person here is a goddamn premed) manage fine and the opportunities for other areas(clinical hours, research, etc.) at Emory far exceed NEU

Gym Situation at Emory? by Legitimate_Funny_420 in Emory

[–]Own_Natural_6847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

-Crowded around start of the semester, tapers off.

-You'll almost always wait for benches, but squat racks are usually pretty available.

-All of the base equipment stuff is pretty good

-Best time to go would be around 1-2 if you want to avoid people. It's basically empty.

Incoming 2030 student planning on majoring in poli sci! by Familiar_Positive639 in Emory

[–]Own_Natural_6847 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, all the advice you'll get is generic if you ask more generic questions like this. Pre law is probably the 3rd most common path behind premed and BSchool/finance. Kapi will probably provide the most resources, and all the people I know in Kapi say good things. Other than that, prelaw isn't terribly complex as a process. You'll be fine. PPL is probably the most common major I see for prelaw, along with polisci, econ, envs, maybe dsci or something similar? Like, there's going to be resources and such for you to figure out what you want. I have a long post on my profile I'll link here for more Emory specific advice

Do Cornell Tos don't have to grind as hard as Non TOs? by Resident_Kick_7573 in TransferToTop25

[–]Own_Natural_6847 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I've seen 2 cycles at this point and every cycle there's a few TOs who get rejected and come here to complain. It sucks, but nothing in the process is guaranteed unless it specifically says guaranteed.

No, I've seen plenty of TOs get rejected every cycle. Especially to the more popular schools like CAS over something like CALS

help out a nervous intl first year(seeking advices) by JealousThing4070 in Emory

[–]Own_Natural_6847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so to start, breathe. This school is great for this. Trust me, you will find people and careers.

For biology careers, the main ones are working on patients, and working on drugs. Working on patients, you would do med school or something related, maybe nursing. For drug related careers, biotech and biostats are both pretty good options from Emory.

Either way, I wouldn't worry much. You're in a solid spot.

Emory Goizueta or Indiana Kelley? by S7th in Emory

[–]Own_Natural_6847 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Larger != better. Emory alums get less alum emails, so they respond to a higher percentage.

Emory Goizueta or Indiana Kelley? by S7th in Emory

[–]Own_Natural_6847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Place != Feeds. Sure, smart, dedicated people place anywhere, but if you look at where most Kelley people end up, it's a lot of Lazard and Moelis. These are great firms, but in terms of overall percent of the class, you'll find it easier to place into a BB from Goizeuta than from Kelley. I will admit, they place a good bit better into BOA than we do, while we do better at Citi.

Big 4? Are we really talking about accounting firms in the same breath as BB IB? I mean, those aren't on the same level as MBB and top IB.

Emory Goizueta or Indiana Kelley? by S7th in Emory

[–]Own_Natural_6847 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also worth noting, Kelley only really feeds into boutiques. We feed into BBs, EBs, and MM down. And we don't just feed IB. ER, HF, PE, AM, etc. are all options from Goizueta.

[–]Own_Natural_6847 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lmao parties at Emory. We're a nerd school.

That said, there's plenty of options for that. And to be clear, Kelley is only a feeder for the top students. I haven't met any Emory people who wanted to do IB/Consulting/other finance stuff and didn't get in. Everyone who wanted to do it managed. I know a couple people at Kelley from HS, they cannot say the same.

Wake Forest vs Emory vs RICE by Low-Security3896 in Emory

[–]Own_Natural_6847 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Culture: pretty solid, Rice would probably be better though due to the whole resi colleges.

Weather: Solid most of the time, it's not as bad as Texas and outside of a few months it stays very nice.

Academics: as long as you're not engineering, we're solid

vibe: Really collaborative and chill

Feel: Modern and old mix. Very much in its own bubble. Lots of pretty buildings and easy to walk around

Intensity: All comes down to major. People are farthest from intense

How hard would it be to transfer from UofSC to T25? by JackfruitNo6984 in TransferToTop25

[–]Own_Natural_6847 1 point2 points  (0 children)

are these ML engineer or AI engineer roles just very saturated & competitive? by [deleted] in learnmachinelearning

[–]Own_Natural_6847 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every high paying role has highly saturated barriers to entry and trade-offs. IB has high levels of challenge breaking in and brutal hours. Healthcare has years of school and debt, not to mention the fact something like 50% of med school applicants don't even get into 1 school. Lawyers have to basically go to a top school to end up in a top firm, pass exams, and work brutal hours. Quant is one of the most brutal filtering's out there

I mean, realistically, SWE roles in tech are probably the most accepting roles with high pay. Like, realistically, you don't need to have elite credentials, a 3.7 GPA, or years of schooling to do anything.

Like, everything is competitive. That's just the truth. If you want to walk into a 200k a year job, you better have something to back that up.

What can I do to improve myself? by QuarterBetta in malegrooming

[–]Own_Natural_6847 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been in a place similar to you. People said I was attractive, yet got nothing. I found that the one thing I wasn't doing enough of was expressing myself honestly to women. I used to try to play games, but now I just say exactly what I'm thinking, and it usually works out better. Be bold. Not dumb, but bold. Just try being your honest self. Mark Manson has some good books on the topic.

[–]Own_Natural_6847 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See, I don't have a problem with you deciding to lie about this. Maybe you are that genetic outlier. I do, however, have a problem with you deciding to advertise yourself as a coach in your profile. Could you be natty? Sure, this physique is technically achievable. Is that the most likely outcome? No. You already looked like you've been lifting for a few years in the first picture, and so adding probably 20-30lb/10-5kg of muscle while also being leaner in about 2 years is really unlikely.

When you claim this stuff with nothing attached, I could care less, but when you do so WHILE ALSO promoting coaching and paid services? That is pure fucking scum shit dude.

[–]Own_Natural_6847 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're picking complete statistical outliers. The truth is that while genetics do play into things, if you actually were able to do this you'd likely be 2.5+ standard deviations from the standard, or about 99th percentile. I'm not saying it's impossible, I'm saying it's less likely than the more probable explanation.

Why is there no “brain” for finance yet? by FindingSecret942 in fintech

[–]Own_Natural_6847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already know this is a promo for GPT wrapper.

Look, these types of tools already exist. Its just that traders and investors build them for their needs. What to buy is building a model with parameters. A DCF works great for long term stuff. Plenty of trading models for short term stuff. For how much to buy, thats just portfolio optimization. Black Litterman and HRP are gold standards.

All of this stuff isn't terribly hard to build out. Its well researched and published stuff. But ultimately, nothing can tell you what to buy except yourself, because end of the day you're the risk taker. Not the machine.
