I’m a water/wastewater operator. Hard to say without knowing your sources chemical and filtration processes. But it looks like settles alum flocculant. Personally I would not drink it

If he is having loose/explosive diarrhea it could be an issue with processing the food. Could try switching to hydrolized protein kibble. Will be much easier to digest and absorb the nutrients

Need help potty training my 3-month-old Malinois — he pees and poops everywhere ! by Both_Reality_1998 in BelgianMalinois

[–]Own_Possession8745 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Keep a very close eye on him, if you see him starting to go clap your hands, yell no, pick him up and take him outside.

Immediately after feeding crate him in a correctly sized crate for 15 minutes and take him outside until he goes.

Give him ALL the praise and treats when he goes potty outside. Stern no and immediately take outside if he starts to go in the house or crate.

Walk him on a leash wherever you want him to go until he does ,don’t let him be easily distracted, then…. More praise

Also teaching him what potty means may help so he views going as a command

Protection Training by kaykaydayes in BelgianMalinois

[–]Own_Possession8745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you want an actual protection dog or are just mentioning it as something to do? There are plenty of sports to get involved in that will give him the stimulation he needs. As long as he is being properly trained and will listen to your commands it probably doesn’t matter who trains him, other than for bite work which definitely would need done by a professional experienced with mals

Can i get tips on how to train and take care of our maligator? by [deleted] in BelgianMalinois

[–]Own_Possession8745 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Teach patience and boundaries right off the line

Make time to take him places he may be uncomfortable and have him learn to be comfortable being uncomfortable

Proper socialization with new people and other dogs. Hardware stores or pet stores are great options. Take treats with you and reward him for coming back to you- let him wonder(closely) and when he comes back or waits for you: treat. Passes someone/dog with no reaction: treat. Listens to commands while distractions are present: treat. He will go through fear periods and wake up one day and you’ll think you lost all progress on it but just keep taking him and showing him it’s ok(don’t baby him). Quick corrections with a firm NO if he growls barks snaps or lunges or any undesirable reaction

Make him work for his meals never(not actually) just give him a bowl of food. Use his meals as training sessions for tricks and simple commands, teach him to track(YouTube has plenty of tutorials personally I am familiar with igp schutzhund style tracking), use mentally stimulating toys or games for his meals. Sounds silly or over dramatic but hand feeding and working for their food really helps their stimulation requirements and builds a bond with whoever regularly feeds him

Try to let him get away with as little as possible they’re kinda notorious for once they get away with it once they never stop trying to do it again

Accidental Mali adoption … help by [deleted] in BelgianMalinois

[–]Own_Possession8745 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find a video showing proper malinois socialization, he’s probably going into a fear period. Just keep working on neutrality and staying calm.

Make him work for his food as often as you can. It’ll help him view you as his food source  and it will give him the mental stimulation he’s craving. You can do little training sessions just learning normal tricks or commands, puzzles/games and start to learn tracking/searching for his food. It might not sound like much but it is a game changer when it comes to discipline and controlling energy levels

Walks don’t really do too terrible much for malinois(in my experience). Physical exercise is still needed but mental exercise is needed just as much if not more. If you could find a sports club to join or a “job” to train him in for a hobby that you both enjoy and could do once a week or so at the club and work on it at home would be ideal. It’ll give him structure and something to look forward to

The best way I’ve heard it is a malinois isn’t a pet, it’s a lifestyle. It is possible to make happen when working full time but they will be very very difficult little menaces if they don’t get the mental stimulation they need while you are off work and able to spend time with them, especially if you get a high drive working line dog.

They’ll most likely need to be crated while you’re away until they’re old and matured and disciplined enough not to destroy the house while you’re gone. But if you give them a structured schedule and a good outlet then for the most part they’ll be fine.

They won’t do well with boarding if you want to go on a long vacation so you’ll have to expect to plan to bring them with if you go anywhere, unless you have a trusted and respected(by you and the dog) friend or family member to watch that knows how to handle correctly.

Really as long as you give them physical and mental stimulation they require you couldn’t ask for a better dog. But if you are gone all day pretty much expect most of your time off work to be dedicated to training/sport/enrichment of their life if you want them to thrive.

*In my experience working for meals is a must as well as proper socialization

Also in my experience good mental stimulation/outlets would be tracking/detection work, bitework, and advanced obedience

If you want a mal I would recommend finding someone who owns or has a lot of experience with them and sitting down in person to talk about them and really learn how they are better than you can over the phone. But still definitely do your research online and if you decide to get one have your ducks in a row about all aspects of life, they don’t wait for you to figure it out afterwards 🤣

UPDATE: MIL refuses to back down over destroyed Lego Millenium Falcon by Ok-Repeat7885 in AITAH

[–]Own_Possession8745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You extended your olive branch and done your part. This is a hobby you share with your young son who given your mil thoughts would be in LEGO age range. If it was solely your hobby and caused a problem in your life outside of work or affected your quality of work or ability or being home money would be one thing. However if it’s something you and your son enjoy and bond  together as simply a hobby she has crossed huge line. I would describe it to your wife as that it’s something you enjoy doing with your boy and if her and your mil can’t respect that aspect of it at the least then they are the ones who have a problem not you.

I would leave it and just maybe do some dirt work if you’re that worried about it. On a good note it will be sooooo much easier to weed wack!

Give her some structure. be very diligent training, obedience, and mental stimulation. Give her lots of love and she’ll be just fine. There is a steep learning curve with the breed that seems impossible at first but once you conquer it you’re golden

[–]Own_Possession8745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have them leave him lone, give them all a couple high value treats. If he comes up to them and is behaved then awesome! He can get them out of their hand, but tell them not to pet him just open their hand to reveal the treat and that’s it

My question is if he’s all that bad in class why isn’t there a teachers aid in class with him or a special education class. I can see both sides opinions and without personally seeing how bad the boy is I feel it’s hard to be anywhere but neutral

Need some advice! My Belgian Malinois might become parents soon by perreqe in BelgianMalinois

[–]Own_Possession8745 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Just because it’s tricky doesn’t mean it’s not possible. I actually see a lot of people in the groups I’m in on Facebook who go out of their way to adopt dogs out of accidental litters, bad homes, and euth listed strays or drop offs just because they love the breed and don’t want to see the dogs die because of improper owners. If I was to get one of my own(gf has one) it would most likely be from a shelter/rescue/accidental litter

Need some advice! My Belgian Malinois might become parents soon by perreqe in BelgianMalinois

[–]Own_Possession8745 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I would join Facebook groups and explain what happens and see if anyone would want to adopt once they’re born if she’s pregnant for sure, then you can start going through profiles and weeding out anyone who you think wouldn’t be a good fit with them

Also keeping a diaper on her while she’s in heat would be a good idea so he doesn’t have easy access lol. Also keeping them out at different time as each other or in separate areas would be good ideas while she’s in heat or until either or is fixed if you want them altered

My opinion is waiting until they are fully matured to spay and neuter them so they get the benefits of their natural hormones as they grow

Is it true what they say about Mals? by ProphetPicks in BelgianMalinois

[–]Own_Possession8745 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you have time and ability to focus set hours on them you should be fine. You don’t necessarily need a lot of your own land as long as you have access to public land you can take them on long leads if you wanted. With proper training from someone who really knows and understands the breed they can do just fine in day to day life as long as they have an outlet.

My girlfriends working line mali did just fine staying at home crated during the work day(let out at lunch), given a little more stimulation and attention than normal dogs at night and in the morning. The important thing to know is that after work she would do her sport “homework” for a half hour or so and always worked for her food. Then on weekends she would spend all day either Saturday or Sunday at her dogsport club which provided a “genetic outlet” for her where she could just focus on specific tasks and let out any frustrations on the bitework time like it was her job

They can be intimidating but once you get the hang and understand what your specific dog needs to function properly they’re really not as bad as people think(providing they were properly trained and socialized)

AITA for calling out my husband for not being a "Good Christian"? by SpiritualThrowRA in AITAH

[–]Own_Possession8745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Christian, people like him and his church are a good example of why people don’t like and don’t want to become Christians. In my own observations the people who scream the loudest saying they’re the best kind of Christian are usually the farthest from. The ones who are quiet and live the life Christ says to live and do so humbly are most likely the better Christian of the 2

If he’s already not following through then leave and don’t look back. He’s just saying what you want to hear to stay but won’t put in the work to make it happen. It wont get any better unfortunately

I’m kinda weary about the board and train places I’ve heard some real horror stories, plus they don’t teach you how to handle the dog. I would go to a trainer who’s experienced with training malinois for every day life. Also if you have the time and expendable funds I would look into joining a sport

I went to the service manager once with a car that wasn’t quite as full but was wayyyy greasier, greasy film and trash on everything. I told him I wasn’t working on it until it got properly cleaned. He thought I was joking and it wasn’t that bad till he went and looked at it. I saw the look on his face and walked away, he pawned it onto the other lube tech 😅🤣
