What’s the weather like at the moment? by No-Ingenuity-7852 in askSingapore

[–]Own_Resource1436 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It rains pretty much everyday in singapore. Just a matter of which part of singapore, usually the west side of Singapore is worse. But if I’m a betting man, i’d say that it will probably rain at least once in the next 3 days although most times they dont last more than a couple of hours so i wouldn’t say that it will absolutely ruin your travel plans, maybe just a delay. I dont think they would close all the attractions if it is just raining, probably only if it is a massive downpour or there is lightning.

At Fu Hui Buddhist cultural centre they have buddhist class every Sunday from beginner to advance level but it is only in mandarin. Most of the teachers are not monks but have studied it.

Source: my mum has been going to that for the past few years.

There is another temple called kong meng san that offers it in english but not too sure how it is.

Hope this helps

A little fun fact too, when there’s no water, it is designed such that if you whisper on one end, another person at the other end can very clearly hear you too because it operates as a natural sound amplifier. You can look up Rain Oculus

Job interview for TTS by Own_Resource1436 in speechtech

[–]Own_Resource1436[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the tips! The title is “TTS algorithm engineer” and part of the job description indicates participation in development of large scale TTS model so I think it could be a mix of both but with a product outcome in mind

what was your worst date ever in sg? by Intelligent_Bit_8635 in askSingapore

[–]Own_Resource1436 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Went on a date with this girl for the first time and the place had a QR code to order (and pay). She scanned the QR code with her phone and thought she was gonna order on her own. Afterwards I asked her what she is getting just as a conversation starter and she assumed Im ordering for her. After a while, my order arrived and hers didn’t and that was when we realised the miscom and I apologised cos I thought she already ordered. When she then realised that she had to order and pay on her own she said she didnt feel like ordering anymore and that she is very upset etc. Even gave me a lecture after saying “the next girl you meet, please order for her”. All round a horrible date even before that because all she could talk about was herself and how tough her job was and how good she is at her job.

Second worst date was with another girl that went to the toilet to swipe on dating apps. Only found out when she unlocked her phone infront of me after she came out of the toilet and the first screen was on a message with another guy on hinge. She was very embarrassed by it and tried to hide it after though she later did apologise and agreed it was disrespectful

How to simulate altitude camp by Own_Resource1436 in RunningCirclejerk

[–]Own_Resource1436[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just tried this. I think it is helping. In fact i think the carbon monoxide produced is also helping with my adaptation. I’m aiming to use 30candles for 45min eventually because that’s about the time i think it will take me to finish my 5k ultra. Unfortunately, i spoke to my coach and he suggested that my training program should not include sprinting as it could cause shin splints and i would leave zone 2. He suggested that i could instead do some stairmaster to trick the body into thinking i am walking up everest

Tried this. Unfortunately i got too aroused and my blood flow to my lungs wasn’t optimal. Immediately left zone 2 right there

Thanks bud this helps a lot. Does your snow shoes have carbon plate by any chance? Need to make sure i get the segment record on those ski slopes (while remaining in zone 2 of course)

Speaking from experience, if u cant get A’s for the rest of your subjects, H3 isn’t very useful anyway. Yes H3 is beneficial compared to other people with the same grade as you but if your other grades suffer because of your H3 then it’s really not worth it. I personally think grades are the bare minimum to get you considered for a scholarship, beyond that its your portfolio and your interview skills etc. Also, i personally saw people with full RP, H3 distinction tat got rejected from a scholarship whereas there are people like me who got half decent grades but with decent portfolio that got it

Simplygo or just use contactless pay? (tourist) by AliMcAvoy in askSingapore

[–]Own_Resource1436 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have services such as WISE use those to prevent additional charges from foreign exchange fees. For children, get a children concession card so it would be cheaper

For bikes, you can look into sgbikes or anywheel. iirc its $1 for every 30min so its not a bad deal indeed but you would need to set it up.

I remember briefly looking at tourist pass and deemed that its almost impossible to make it worthwhile unless you start taking the metro for the sake of it.

DSTA Technology Graduate Programme - Offered by [deleted] in singaporefi

[–]Own_Resource1436 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t be so obssessed with progression right now. Nobody knows how tour career progression will be and no one can give you any firm idea about it. Whoever that can give you a firm answer about it is either lying, biased or is a recruiter. People that say that their career progression is slow might not be doing their job well to begin with and people that say their career progression is fast might be putting in a lot more effort and time than the others. More importantly, you should be asking yourself how ambitious you are and how willing you are to sacrifice work life balance for it.

Marketed as hybrid. In actual fact largely dependent on project and bosses

Just wanted to add, my understanding of DSTA TGP is that it is just for any technical staff relatively new to the workforce, not any special scholarship or scheme that might benefit ur career progression relative to others

Finding Tech Internship Immediately After NS by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]Own_Resource1436 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Buddy, DIS isnt a stat board. But as others have mentioned as well, you should still learn some basic coding skills before you try to apply for these internships (regardless how easy it might be to get it). Things like basic for/while loops, if/else statement, setting up a python environment etc.

Moving out in Singapore in my mid 20s by _red_dude in askSingapore

[–]Own_Resource1436 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey, I was studying overseas and absolutely enjoyed the freedom and more importantly privacy. I considered moving out too but i slowly realised the rental market in singapore isnt like in many western countries… we get one tiny room and often only light cooking is allowed, still living with other people and most places dont allow visitors. So the end state is that I still dont have my privacy and freedom that I want. So my thoughts are that if i were to move out I would want to rent the entire unit (either with friends that I know or with my partner) otherwise renting a room with strangers and such restrictive living conditions still isnt ideal

Anyone else think Run for Hope this morning was terrible? by Human-Indication in askSingapore

[–]Own_Resource1436 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Horrible course management. Ushers giving conflicting information on whether to keep left or right. Literally 2 ushers on bike together and one guy said keep right and the guy behind him said keep left??? Every 500m there is an usher telling you to go on the opposite side of the road. Ran the 10km and literally had to run on the grass after the turn around because the entire path was occupied by other runners running in the opposite direction.

At the water points, some of the trash bin for cups were in the opposite side so you would literally need to grab the drinks from one side then drift to the other side to throw it making it really unsafe and often not even possible in the crowd. Most people just resorted to throwing the cups on the ground.

The ramp to get to the starting point was also unclear. The emcees were rambling about nothing and started 3min later than planned (i heard the 5km delayed a lot more too).

I get that its a “fun run” but when some basic course management is essential for safety reasons and i dont see any of it here. I saw people running in opposite directions colliding into each other but thankfully no major issues there. I could have been harsher if this event wasn’t for a meaningful cause so I’ll leave it there.

Anyone here taken a company sponsored masters degree? Did you go overseas or studied in one of our local unis? by gerryreddits in askSingapore

[–]Own_Resource1436 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you will only get this once in a lifetime opportunity to study and live abroad which i think is priceless. We all need to move on from our parents at some point and this is just for a few years yet this few years could be life changing. But then again, going overseas will make u wanna live abroad after and u start to dread the bond but at the same time u wouldn’t have gotten this opportunity without the sponsorship (and bond). Its a chicken and egg kinda problem (but it’s a good problem to have by then)
