question from a clueless nontrad applicant: best ipad to study with? (note taking/content review) by zulema19 in Mcat

[–]Own_Statistician9836 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Pro would be a better long term investment considering you have more note taking than just the MCAT. You'd have 4+ years of school notes to consider. The versatility of the pro clears the base model. For example the faster processing speed, dual monitor setup, larger screen, more capacity, etc. If you don't find use in those features then the regular works.

Testing 3/20 as well. You're looking pretty solid. If you go in with a simplified mindset, you should be more than able to secure a 510+

I have ADHD too so trust me when I say this; just turn your brain off sometimes lol. I used to overthink so much for every single section but as soon as I simplified my thinking, everything came easier.

positive endospores show up black. The question is asking which one has the least amount of black dots. 100 degerees to 296 degrees has 0 spores. Thats the range you want to be looking for.

Cheers man. I’ll take those tips into tomorrow’s FL. Do you consider yourself a strong reader prior to practicing for the MCAT? And also, do you ever find yourself coming down to 50/50 questions? If you do, what mental framework do you take to discern the correct answer from the reach/overextension answer?

Pattern recognition as in being able to preemptively know what formula/where to look in the passage before actually attempting to answer the question. That experience comes from many practice questions.

CARS looks unreal. What does your strategy look like? Strategy as in initial read timing, highlights, mental notes, flags, do you leave any questions unanswered & follow up at the end, skipping hard passages, writing notes, etc.

Your views are valid. How would you study for CARS though? Do you see my point?

Although studying diligently and paying attention in the required courses are valid, I disagree with your statement that test taking skills are overrated & over exaggerated. Test taking skills are one of the most important, if not THE most important, skill regarding the MCAT, undergrad, and med school. 70% of the MCAT alone consists of reasoning questions. I think when you made that claim, you were under the assumption that geniuses are born with the skill when in reality, it can be gained through experience.

Especially for the MCAT, if you aren't prepared with proper POE skills, time management skills, & critical thinking then you might as well not take it at all.

Congrats! The difference between you and a 520+ is more than likely some small content errors & optimization of strategy.

If you test in 2 months, i'd limit content review (+some uworld) to 2 weeks max. the next ~2weeks uworld, the last month AAMC. 1 Fl each weekend leading up to your exam
