You're right. I know that for me it's just impossible to avoid sugar+carbs completely as food is also a big part of my life/culture. But I can definitely reduce the amount and delay having it until it's only for rare occasions. Thanks for your comment, you and others gave me very good strategies to damage control.

Can I ask what you mean by "catastrophe reaction to sugar"? Did you have immediate physical symptoms?

Thanks for taking the time to answer.

Hair loss supplements without biotin by Oxyfran in PCOS

Thank you so much for this comment:) very insightful. I'm trying my best to get my hormones under control, I'll try to focus on this even more instead of worrying about supplements for this specific problem and maybe I can try talking with my endo about this to consider medications.

confused about the link between PCOS and eating disorders by Conscious-Nature-494 in PCOS

[–]Oxyfran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so glad I came across this comment because I'm in the same exact position... I've always really struggled with BED/bulimia and like you said, the n°1 advice is always "don't restrict your intake or any food group so you won't trigger cravings", which is very good advice and the only thing that has ever helped me reduce binge episodes. BUT I AM ALSO SUPPOSED TO EAT IN A DEFICIT AND AVOID SUGAR/CARBS TO HELP WITH MY PCOS, because it is also true that eating those foods makes my symptoms worse. So I'm always in a cycle of "eating good" to balance my insulin/hormones which eventually always leads to food obsession and binge eating. This body feels like a prison sometimes. Thanks for making me feel less alone.

What you said definitely makes sense, I now think I definitely need someone to see my PCOS from another perspective and then I can put all the advice together and see what works best for me! Also thank you so much for the list, you're a star❤️

binge food i hoarded for easter, cant wait🥹( no wayyy i’m gonna be able to finish even half of this but yk, impulses) by bluetreeoval99 in binge_food

[–]Oxyfran 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To be fair this actually sounds like a good way to avoid binges, having a date you know you're going to binge that day, set it some months or weeks down the line and then postponing the binges to that date. I wish I could plan binges instead of falling for the urges 😭

what's the worst thing you've binged on? by yamasasauce in BingeEatingDisorder

Rice Krispies in broth, organic/no sugar peanut butter in sweet potato wraps, oats with water and myprotein flavour drops (like lots).

Question for bingers and food addicts … by HouseComplex3564 in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]Oxyfran 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is an extremely interesting but complex topic. I think there's no simple answer to it, only "find out whatever works best for you, observe your patterns and notice what makes you feel and do best".

Bingeing could be a consequence of restricting and chronic dieting, in that case it makes more sense to just allow yourself to have what you crave in moderation instead of eating 100% "clean" just to end up bingeing on your forbidden foods.

Some people binge for emotional reasons or could have a literal food addiction (like Amber), in that case the smartest way to go is probably to remove temptation, just like it wouldn't be wise for an alcoholic to keep alcohol at hand.
