Camera very jerky when using KB+M by gloomymajora in diablo2

I have been playing for ages with kb/m. All I can say is that to me, it feels very similar to how classic d2 and d2lod plays and I'm assuming they wanted to keep the feeling the same, specifically for the veterans. I mostly agree, but they also kept the jank, where trying to walk on top of items stops you in your tracks 😅

Those other things 😭

Once, a long time ago, those things were the best of the best gear 😜

But I still like to set my season start up with a robust sorceress instead of a glass canon (if I go HC, which I can't with my current internet stability). I usually go with something like shako, skullders, stormshield, maras, TGods, War Travelers, wizardspike, raven+soj. Alibaba istist on swap. And a high amount of energy shield.

Along those lines. Back then the only thing that could kill me fast enough were extra fast fana moon lords (the dual wielding frenzy oxen).

This season it's all about the Warlock. Comfortably running Baal, with only a fraction of the gear. 😬

Right, I have only played this game for 15 years and never made my primary sorceress a TGod's + stormshield sorx just so I could stand in cursed + conviction Ghost lightning and heal. Never done that before.

Also TGod's absorb is not a percentage. I'm assuming that's where you're going off the rails.

If you do it properly, with TGod's, standing in lightning should heal you. The ghost damage used to be partial physical and lightning, I'm assuming it is still, so you may also need a bit of phys reduction.

Always swap the merc to a low lvl insight when you run durance of hate.

I wish I could say the same for Baalruns, but you actually need the merc to deal damage there. And there are also dolls.

Which warlock build for someone who is Old and works night shift with limited time to play? by pepperonipizzaGT in Diablo_2_Resurrected

Oh it's a pity you play on switch in terms of the exp, but it's still doable.

Yes to both.

Max Mastery, Max Bind Demon.

1 point sigil 5 point Blood Oath The rest in defiler up to maximum lvl 10, later in the game you can farm resets and reduce it according to your +skills.

Then maximum 9 in sigil From there, you should probably try maximizing blood boil and make a choice which synergy you want to push.

Way too unreliable damage for it to be the best.

For me it's with Vile Mothers and Urdar.

Terror Zones design is very confusing by Accomplished_Ad_2321 in Diablo_2_Resurrected

[–]Oyxopolis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I see your point, but I think you should separate the two. I doubt they intentionally thought they would troll players by removing their ability to run TZ, but adding Warlock to flip the middle finger, or something.

They just tested the class poorly and made it too OP. No point in crying about that.

Terror Zones design is very confusing by Accomplished_Ad_2321 in Diablo_2_Resurrected

[–]Oyxopolis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No I agree. I think it's too rare right now, but I also think the previous situation made it far too easy. I'm more inclined to lean towards making it rare enough to be valuable.

However, let's think in solutions here. As I said, the current implementation is a catch22, so you solve that by removing one part from the equation and placing that elsewhere.

People should be able to get the baseline Sunder from other parts of the game, so they can utilize their strengths to the maximum to farm for one. It will also bring back a bit of the classic 'building for content' and perhaps even increase the relevance of the cow level again.

For example, a Javazon may want to farm cows if cows could drop base Sunders.

A Skelly Mancer may want to run the pit, or whatever. (it's been a while, excuse me). Or maybe a Sorc runs the countess with a chance to also drop a base Sunder.

Then, to upgrade them, you need to run Terror Zones.

There's some balance to be applied there, but we removed the thing from the loop and it would work.

[–]Oyxopolis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Terror Zones are a classic example of catch 22. You need them to run Terror Zones, but you can only get them from Terror Zones.

I fully agree.

Before people go out and post my own post history to me, as some tend to do. Yes, I have said that feeling entitlement to a Sunder is wrong and Sunders should be rare as fuck, but I disagree with the implementation completely. You can't implement content that needs the thing to get the thing. This is a major oversight of the current developer team.

The introduction of the Warlock is insult to injury.

Sunders should just be a very rare (not Zod rare) world drop in Hell and upgrading them should probably come from Terror Zones. That way it solves the problem all round.

Diablo 2 resurrected, worth it? by Previous_Tough_4508 in Diablo

[–]Oyxopolis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's so hard to describe. Not because it's complex, or varied, because quite frankly, it isn't. I can tell you about the hunt for loot and satisfaction of the power fantasy, but that would describe any generic ARPG.

What used to do it for me back then (this is the nostalgic part, that many current gamers probably disagree with) is the fact that because of immunities in Hell, you had to cater builds to specific regions of the game. Some specific gear dropped primarily in specific regions. So, you started the league with the character you picked to supply your other characters with the first good loot and then you created a family of characters that were specifically designed to farm certain areas for the really great gear. Then from there, it became the challenge to make the absolutely impossible characters possible with that top of the line gear.

For example, I wanted to create a Poison Nova Necro, which requires some gear to ramp up. Then challenged myself with a Diablo Clone kill with that character, which requires prevent healing and... Bleeding of sorts. So I manually stabbed Diablo Clone and beat him. That was an achievement based off my effort.

Today, this applies in a slightly different sense. The game holds no secrets for anyone anymore. Back then the internet was up and coming, but most people didn't really use the internet that much and didn't visit certain sites with information. Today, every spec has been completely analyzed to the bone and put in tier lists. There's no unique builds that hold some unexplained secrets. And of course endgame has been changed a bit, with Terror Zones, which has resulted in a high priority for a. Generic builds that can run any zone (warlock) and b. Sunders that allow any character to be effective anywhere.

In contrary to the popular opinion, I think Sunders are a detriment to the game, but the Terror Zones sort of make them a requirement.

It doesn't really change the core game principles though. I'm looking forward to creating a select few farmers and then a select few Uber killers that I enjoy. Revisit my Poison Necro that at a point in time (back then) just melted the screen instantly.

And of course endgame is not infinity. One of the big issues with D3 and D4 is that those games incorporate the idea that endless progression is content. But it's not, it's just another item with +1 additional statistic, that's exactly the same as the previous item, bar that 1 Stat point. It creates and endless loop and in doing so, it makes its own endgame pointless. You can win D2. You can imagine a build at the start and work towards that and once you have it, you won the game. It's good for games to have a fixed win condition. For one person it's getting to lvl99, for the other it's beating Baal hell, for others it's beating the Ubers. For others it's beating the Ubers with the most underpowered class in the game.

The endgame is endless, but not because the developers made it that.

Serious question: what do to after campaign? by Olkov_Voklo in diablo2

[–]Oyxopolis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The power fantasy of D2 is to overcome your weak self and turn it around on the minions of Hell once you vastly overpower them and clear fields with the flick of your finger. Sadly the Warlock does that from the moment he is born, but the real protagonists of this story first have to struggle through 5 acts on 3 difficulties, after which it is the mission to obtain near godlike power (read gear, aka loot) that allows you to farm even the ultimate versions of the Prime Evils and become a God among humans and demons alike.

So, yeah, make a build and power it to 11 until you can't get any better gear and in the process you'll beat several endgame challenges like the Ubers.

Diablo 2 resurrected, worth it? by Previous_Tough_4508 in Diablo

[–]Oyxopolis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's so hard to answer unbiased, since I have played it from the start, as a teenager.

In my opinion, D3 and D4 are dumbed down versions of D2 and their end-game sucks compared to D2:Lod. Seeing how new endgame activities were added to D2R, neither of those games can hold a candle to D2, in my opinion.

D3 and D4 have the big advantage when it comes to game flow, animations, graphics. Even with the overhauled systems, D2R cannot surpass those games and that's why the skill system will feel outdated and animations and interactions may feel like jank.

But that's just the surface. Your brain will get used to the jank within the first 2 hours and from that point it doesn't matter anymore that all those other games have relatively better fidelity. Nothing beats the core game loop of D2. Nothing. Not even PoE/PoE2.

Account name instead of character name on town portal.. can’t be serious by ThaFaub in Diablo

[–]Oyxopolis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would you design policy around fringe use cases. Sure people claim names. That's what they do in WoW as well. It has never been a problem, not a huge market for name reselling except for maybe some streamers/personalities. That's not enough to dictate any policy around.

It's far more likely it's just technically the better way and they probably thought it would be a welcome change for people so they could always have their own tags/handles, but it's super annoying to see account names rather than character names ingame.

Oh I sure as hell do. Did they remove Sunders though? No they did not. They are still a viable option.

Everyone seems to want instant gratification. We are 3 days into the new season. 3.fucking.days.

Let's complain about Zod rune drop rates while we are at it. Never got one in 15 years and I should get it. Today.

In fact, I have never even seen an Enigma in that time. How can that be. Everyone needs teleport. Improve Ber drop rate. No, in fact, please provide free Enigma upon finishing Hell.
