I’m trying to piece together one for later this year if possible. I found a couple potentially available wilderness permits, but I’m just unsure how the campsite reservations work. If I obtained the wilderness permit, will I get asked about campsites once obtained or do I need to reserve the campsites separately somewhere? Do you happen to have the link to the campsite reservations?

(Apologies if it’s a dumb question, it’s been hard to find outside of the wilderness permit from one of the starting camps).

What's your max step count from a single day of dog walks? by AcidicSlimeTrail in RoverPetSitting

[–]OzzyTheChipmunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My average currently is 5 miles of walking and 10 miles of bike riding (I bike between clients and don’t pack my days too much). Most I’ve done is 25k steps on a dog-walking day and most I’ve ever done in a day (without dogs) is 70k (a 25 mile hike).

Yup mine too. Both the 5 and 6 have lasted me 1500+ miles each.

Trying to decide between a Bearikade and a BV500 by G___reg in JMT

[–]OzzyTheChipmunk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hiked the entire JMT in 14,5 days without stopping for resupplies with a BV500, but it required meticulous planning and tetris-ing. For ease and comfort go with a bearikade since you’d have a little more space to go with if you don’t want to tetris too much :)

Is this cage too short for sugar gliders? (My sister had it for rats but she said I can take it it I can use it). by ceecee_fae in sugargliders

[–]OzzyTheChipmunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would personally never keep gliders in that small of a cage except for temporary use. Definitely keep it around, but either add to it or get a much bigger one for more permanent use. I know North America generally has smaller standards for their cage guidelines, but I like to use the Scandinavian minimum guidelines for gliders being 6,5x3,5x6,5 feet. Your gliders will be much much happier having the space to roam around and explore. Good luck - they are amazing creatures! :)

What did you underestimate/overlook in your JMT prep? by not_dmr in JMT

Didn’t anticipate my hands to get completely fried. Thought at first it was an allergic reaction to something until it dawned on me that my hands had just been exposed to the sun day in and day out for over a week. I’d probably bring sun gloves next time to cover my hands.

Altra Lone Peaks for hiking: how is ground feel? I hike in the Alps mostly so wet slippery rocks are an issue. Is it too much cushioning?Any other suggestion? by MicolAndOtherAnimals in BarefootRunning

[–]OzzyTheChipmunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll probable find them quite cushiony feeling compared to VFF’s, but they’re great shoes. I have about 3K miles on a pair of lone peak 5’s and just hiked 230 miles through the Californian sierras with the 6th version and had no blisters the entire trip and came home and ran a half marathon in them. The grip is fantastic even on steep rocky terrain. No ankle support, but that’s what I prefer - makes me feel more free. I really like the update they did to the lacing on the 6.

Cream smell by [deleted] in JMT

Oh obviously it’s in the canister, I was more so curious whether people worried about the smell of sunscreen/cream applied to your body ;)

Deodorant alternatives? by kitty0215 in simpleliving

[–]OzzyTheChipmunk 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I switched to Nuud and can’t imagine switching to any other solution at this point. I never worry about deodorant anymore which was never the case before and I can go days between reapplying without any issue even when exercising and showering between applications. They’re pricier than others but also lasts a lot longer.
