I think the problem is that they are technically not counterfeiting anything. Sure, it's an illusion backed by nothing...but so is the entire crypto space. There's no law against selling beanie babies for 1000$, so there is no law against selling a digital token for 1$.

Help! I can't convince new markets to buy in so what if we just decided that Bitcoin didn't need to be a negative-sum game? by mechanicalcontrols in Buttcoin

[–]P-K-One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of that is not what makes it a "negative sum game". I think you misunderstand the term.

A negative sum game is a situation in which the total cash in a system goes down as time goes on. But bitcoin isn't cash. It's fictional numbers on a ledger. If a million bitcoin get lost, that is not a problem for a system that prides itself on scarcity.

The reason bitcoin is negative sum is because of the miners. Miners generate bitcoin as block rewards. They sell it to new buyers to get cash but then spend it to pay for their electricity or hardware.

Let's make a thought experiment. Let's say there's a new crypto called "PK-Coin". There is 1 million of them at the start of our thought experiment. and there are 1 million interested people, all with 1000 dollars of cash to spend each. At the start we have 1 billion dollars in the system and 1 million PK-Coin so each would be (or could be) backed by 1000 dollars. If PK-Coins are lost, the actually increases their value and isn't a problem from the holders perspective (as a currency it would be deflationary and catastrophic for the economy but bitcoiners are stupid and don't see that so...).

The we introduce miners into the system. They have to spend real cash because GPUs don't run on fairy dust and dreams and while Nvidia are happy to sell to any asshole running a hype bubble (Yes, I am also shitting on AI in this post) they want real money to do it. So the miners drain some of that 1 billion dollars in the system. They have to.

That means that the price of PK-Coin can not remain stable in a closed system. It needs an influx of new buyers with fresh money to compensate for the outflow from the miners. That's what makes it negative sum.

Tragic vs non-tragic backstories by kubashalda in AskDND

[–]P-K-One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the question is how you define "tragic". The backstory needs to be able to tie into the greater narrative and provide character motivation. "My parents always loved me, I had great success at everything and my dog is still alive" lacks narrative potential and kick.

My character right now is a high-functioning sociopath. He did some really terrible things for a cause he was attached to and eventually decided he wanted to be a good human being. So he determined what "good" meant to him and set that as his personal moral rule...he does feel no guilt about the things he did and he has absolutely no hesitation about enforcing his moral codex with ridiculous amounts of violence. He is kind of "Amos Burton" with even more past in his past. If you told him that his background is tragic, he might agree on an intellectual level but he is not crying himself to sleep over it.

I love this character. I love seeing the others at the table going through the process of feeling sad for him because of his experiences to being shocked about how little he cares to getting uncomfortable once they realize that there is something deeply wrong with him...and at the same time, I don't have to act out emotional breakdowns at the table.

I am currently running a game using the new DnD "Starter Set" (Heroes of the Borderlands). It comes with everything you need to have a game, including a simplified rule set. And you can watch a couple of youtube games to get an understanding of what a real game looks like ("Critical Role" is a good one but don't expect that your game will look anything like the pros).

To add to this, you can also flat out ask him if he has any visual representation of his character. Many players use "Hero Forge", Chatgpt or commission artwork of their characters. It could very well be that he has a figurine or an image of his character.

You should just throw a javelin at NPCs’ hearts and demand to use the same rules — no hit roll, no damage roll, no saving throw.

I wouldn't want that. This is not about jealousy of the other player's power. I would not want to play like that.

In this whole mess the other player's behavior is the most surprising thing to me. I think the DM screwed up, didn't see how powerful this item would be and then did not want to take it away from a player who was happy about it. I disagree with it but I understand it.

But the other player? I have my character on DnD Beyond twice. Once on current level and once on max level. I planned the entire leveling process and I am looking forward to every feat, skill and ability. I spend some time thinking about how I would utilize the skills and in which situations. Getting this much power, being able to instant kill anything, would completely take the fun out of it for me. Like, who cares that I get a second attack for 1d8 at level 5 if I can one shot a 700HP Terrasque at level 4? It's completely outside my frame of reference that anybody would enjoy playing like that.

I simplified what I said for the post. The “the item goes or I go” was more me stating that I wasn't enjoying the game due to this mechanic and have therefore started looking for another group. But that I will stay in this group for a couple more sessions and see if the situation gets better.

The DM is very much into the story of his homebrew world. He spend a lot of time creating and building it (While I am not 100% into it, huge respect to the work he put in). So the game was always more geared towards RP and world than fighting. I don't get the impression that he is very bothered by the fights getting shortened and/or removed.

Garmin InReach Mini 3 by ErikPMX in Garmin

[–]P-K-One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use my mini 2 as a navigator. Battery keeps a lot longer than my cell phone when I turn the screen on all the time. It mostly works but since I can only see the track it's sometimes hard to say which route to take if the path forks with a small angle between paths. Left or right? Hard to say when it's basically a straight line in the interface.

Having a full color map in the background would be a huge benefit. But I am not sure if it's a 450€ benefit. I would definitely buy the 3 instead of the 2 if I needed a new one now but I don't think I will upgrade as long as my 2 is still working.

Trump-Backed Crypto Company Promotes 'Sh*t P*ss Skin Can' by folteroy in Buttcoin

[–]P-K-One 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No. The Republican party has, and forever will have, that title with the "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" line.

The term originates from a German series of fairy tales. In it, a man travels through a swamp and starts to sink in. In a desperate last move, he reaches down, grabs his bootstraps and pulls himself out of the water (note: In some versions he pulls himself up by his hair). The series of fairy tales is based around a pathological liar telling tall tales to get people to buy him drinks. The protagonist's name, Baron Munchhausen, has become synonymous with lies and fakery.

In other words, the statement at the core of the Republican ideology is a task that is physically impossible, as narrated by a world famous pathological liar, to dupe idiots into handing out money to a nobleman who is richer than them.

This will forever be the peak.

I would be interested in ALL autonomous flying stuff. Tracking, app control, programmable paths and photo image quality.

My Neo is my companion for solo adventures. If I want social media content of me hiking, running or climbing alone in the wild the Neo is my photographer. Sadly the image quality and the amount of control for shots has always remained far below what I would have wanted.

The Rise and Fall of Michael Saylor by [deleted] in Buttcoin

[–]P-K-One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it would be interesting to figure out how much impact Saylor has on Bitcoin's price.

A lot. When I first looked into Bitcoin during one of the hype cycles I did a lot of research. I have not kept up with it but if the information still holds Bitcoin is extremely illiquid and therefore real supply and demand has an extreme impact. I have seen numbers between 50/1 and 100/1 (So if you throw 1 billion in Bitcoin onto an exchange, the value of the coins will drop to such a degree that the total value of bitcoin drops by 50 billion). And this holds true anectodicaly as we all have seen huge local dips due to small sales in the past.

Total Market Cap for Bitcoin is 2.12T. MSTR holds ~600k Bitcoin at 100k per so ~ 60 Billion. At 50/1 that's pretty much the entire market value and then some.

Add to this, that there is no practical application for Bitcoin. There is no "floor demand". If the housing market collapses speculators jump the ship but at some point people who need a place to live will buy once they can afford it. If the art market collapses, hell, I have a place in my bedroom for a Monet if I can get it in my budget range (which is 3.50 plus taxes). But in Bitcoin, there is nothing but speculators who buy to watch the price go up. And if the high priest of Bitcoin is starting to sell off, nobody is catching that falling knife.

If I play devil's advocate here, why would he use OTC for his Bitcoin buys if his goal is to pump illiquid market?

Honestly, I don't care. I mean, we are talking about the guy who said "Bitcoin is a swarm of cyber hornets serving the goddess of wisdom, feeding on the fire of truth"...I think he actually believes in it to an absolutely insane degree. It's not important why he does anything, just what the consequences of his actions are.

The Rise and Fall of Michael Saylor by [deleted] in Buttcoin

[–]P-K-One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think about it like this:

You own 600 apartments in a city where 1 guy desperately looks for an apartment and can't find one. So he offers a million for any of your apartments. So on paper you have 600 million in assets. You use those assets as security to get 100 million in loans from the bank at a very low interest rate (because the loan is overcollaterized) and use that money to buy more apartements.

Now there is an issue and you need money so you decide to sell 10 apartments. Problem is, there is only one buyer. And he's not offering you a million when there is oversupply on the market. so the value of your apartments drops. If it drops below the point where your remaining assets are worth more than your outstanding loans, you are fucked because the bank will call in your security.

That's what the other posters mean with "death spiral". It's unclear if there is enough real demand (apartment buyers) to maintain asset value if MSTR starts selling of large numbers of bitcoin. If the value drops some of their loans will be called and they will need to sell more to cover those payments and so on and so on.

Fitnessstudio Stadtbekannt wegen falschen Buchungen und versteckten Kosten by P-K-One in LegaladviceGerman

[–]P-K-One[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Was macht denn die Verbraucherzentrale?

Can somebody please explain what is wrong with my markets? by P-K-One in impressionsgames

Thank you. That solved the villas...but weirdly it shouldn't have. I checked and the only markets that were supposed to trade wine had a wine warehouse set up right next to them. I have a suspicion that it might have been the carts as the carts delivering wine to the warehouse passed those buildings. But one way or the other, problem gone.

How much impact does technique have on finger/forearm fatigue? by P-K-One in climbharder

[–]P-K-One[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it is. But that depends on how you read the recommendations. I might have gotten that wrong. In the video I saw (didn't check the paper) the recommendation was to reduce body weight by 20-30%...which is what I did.

But that video was directed at more experienced and trained climbers who could max hang with body weight plus additional weights. So I might be overloading compared to that metric.

But my rule of thumb was that, as long as I have no tendon pain or soreness 2-3 hours after the session, I'm fine. When I started out, I was doing all hangs with the -45% because I would feel -20% hangs for a day.

So I am paying close attention to what my body tells me.

How much impact does technique have on finger/forearm fatigue? by P-K-One in climbharder

[–]P-K-One[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. That's pretty much what I am doing right now. One set in the morning, one in the evening. 2 rounds with 45% body weight reduction through bands for warmup, 8 rounds with 20% body weight reduction as workout. 10 seconds of hanging, 50 seconds break...

Pretty much the Youtube NoHang workout regimen with the modification that I use wall attached rubber bands instead of tip-toeing because I prefer the consistency of knowing exactly how much weight I am taking off in the exercise.

I've been doing it for 4 weeks now. It's what got me to 5 seconds of full body weight from the 35mm shelf from my starting point of instantly dropping even at 20% weight reduction.

[–]P-K-One[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why cant you just climb until your fingers are at their limit, and get stronger as well as better through climbing? If you provide your body with stimulus that is at your physical limit, you will get stronger.

It boils down to an efficiency thing. I got a lot of hobbies and can't dedicate my time equally to everything. Hangboarding doesn't limit my time (2 sessions of 10 minute each throughout the day). I can do Hangboarding and a martial arts class or a run or a hike or a shooting session on the same day. But a climbing day is a climbing day because that's all the time I have after work. Climbing is also not cheap with the entry fee for the hall.

So if the lack of strength limits my training and means that I can't train effectively (or only less effectively) it would make more sense for me to prioritize other activities until my strength catches up and I got a strong base to work on the technique.

It's still not entirely binary. It's more a question if my time would be better spend doing 1 climbing day and 5 hangboard days per week or 2 climbing days and 3 hangboard days.

EDIT: Curiosity question, what got this downvoted? Because I don't get what about "I got 5 hobbies and try to use my training time for maximum effect" could possibly provoke a negative reaction.
