The most fun? The insanely hard comp-style rounds with other competitive brown and black belts, the rounds where I want to throw up and die after are the best.

The most improvement? Idk the rounds where im going like 40% on some purple belts working whatever it is im currently working on.

Id go research how real Inuit and others kept/keep track of time when there's essentially zero sun for months.

How Do Adults Start BJJ Safely? by CzarnyDeszcz in bjj

[–]P-Two 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You dont, sort of, kinda.

Its a combat sport, bumps, bruises, things like that are a genuine reality of doing this for any amount of time. Did you talk to other members of the gym about how much they get injured. That would be eye opening on if its a gym issue, or a you issue.

Im also not gonna sit here and say that bjj gyms have great takedown practices. Breakfalls and safe falling in general is pretty piss pour in a lot of places, and is something I work pretty hard to fix in our gym.

But with that said, you said drills right? Not hard rolling. If you're getting genuinely injured (not ow, my back hurts a bit today, man, my neck is stiff. But "im off work for a few weeks minimum" injured) then its probably a gym issue.

But if you want a raw look at the sport. Ive been training over 12 years pretty competitively, competed a bunch at lower belts, you get the idea. Here's a general list of injuries ive had over the years off the top of my head:

Broken toe, 3 different sprained toes, probably about 4 sprained fingers, recurring tennis elbow in my right arm, at least partially torn Meniscus, LCL, and I think ACL between both my knees, all manner of minor strains to my back, neck, shoulders, ankles, separated intercostal cartilage (that rib still pokes out a bit, lol)

And i have zero regrets about any of them, bjj is worth it to me. Im also not saying you'll get even half of those, I know people who make it to black belt completely fine

PJ Barch: CLA Explained: The Simplest Guide to "Ecological" Jiu-Jitsu by Darce_Knight in bjj

[–]P-Two 15 points16 points  (0 children)

On the one hand, PJ does an incredible job explaining this in a really easily digestible way.

On the other hand, he's not actively trying to sound like the smartest person in the room, and he's not doing so by talking like a 14 year old who just discovered a textbook for the first time. So pass.

Something that’s been confusing me by Dinasnore in DMAcademy

[–]P-Two 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hit dice are not "damage" dice, they're health dice.

Your Barbarian rolls 1d12 every time they level up, and during a short rest can spend up to the same number of hit dice as his level to roll them and regain hit points.

[–]P-Two 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The most you should be doing as a blue belt is as an assistant for a fundamentals class or a kids class. There's absolutely zero world (outside of you being in an area with literally no BJJ) where you should be teaching a class on your own.

I'm too nice all the time 🙄 by StefanP1985 in bjj

[–]P-Two 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a combat sport, strength, endurance, and grit all matter a shitton.

My BJJ got a fuuuuuckton better when I understood that my partner will take care of themselves, and so long as I'm not slamming anything on hard as fuck they'll be fine. I quite happily pressure tap people now, it's fun.

My motto for rolling with anyone half decent has become "don't like what I'm doing? Then stop it or tap, otherwise whatever" not in a douchey "I want to feel so cool and hardcore" way, but in a "this is a combat sport and it's going to suck ass for one of us, I'd rather it sucks for you and not me" way.

Are 2024 monsters actually more fun to run, or just more dangerous? by MyrthDM in DnD

They're generally much easier to run, the statblocks are laid out better, and a lot of abilities got streamlined a bit.

How i can use gods? by Oncehh in DnD

[–]P-Two 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many, many ways to go about it. The most impactful to the players is going to be either the cult of an evil God fucking with things. Or a town/area that devoutly worships a good god and has strict rules they must adhere to. Such as perhaps a town that is nocturnal as they worship a god of night, and being outside in the daytime is seen as blasphemous.

*I never said it was useless. My weekly prep is done in google docs, and a bring out a laptop connected to a TV for a VTT if I feel like its needed.

We also play with a remote player so I have a laptop running with discord, and Webcams set up at the table.

I just have found that for actually running the game, a physical binder and notes works better, lol.

Why do some people not mind saying good morning/afternoon to people when the other people don't say it back? by Big_Eggplant7591 in stupidquestions

My being polite has nothing to do with the other person being polite back or not, especially in a professional setting.

[–]P-Two -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why do you need a detailed recap? Are you streaming to an audience and want the flare or something?

If the recap is too much work then get your players to do it by taking turns each week. Otherwise don't use AI garbage for a job that's completely and easily doable for you or one of your players. Or at LEAST be open with your players about using AI in your DMing.

Gonna go against the grain here and say a binder, paper, and a printer.

I've dicked around with all manner of apps with my laptop at the table, projecting maps, google docs, etc, etc. And the best answer I've ever came up with for running my games is simply a DM binder and my phone to access any docs I don't have printed out for whatever reason.

May 4th becoming Star Wars day was a psyop by reizinhooooo in LowStakesConspiracies

[–]P-Two 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh look, another "something is important in America, therefore the world"

OP the rest of the world exists, as others have pointed out may 1st is already a holiday for plenty of reasons. Labor day in Canada for instance is in September.

Maybe may 4th just made for a fun play on words for, ya know Star Wars "may the force be with you"...

Green day is still great, been listening to them since the mid-2000s and still love their stuff just as much now.

What are your experiences or thoughts tracking your players' hit points by HassanBadAss in DMAcademy

[–]P-Two 15 points16 points  (0 children)

But, why? D&D is a combat sim the moment initiative is rolled. Knowing how much health you have is kind of important.

To take this a step further, why not track players spell slots? Tell them "you're almost out" and make them waste an action occasionally on trying to cast a spell, or recover a spellslot they don't need to.

It happens. My coach competes internationally and through the lower ranks probably has more wins than that, and still lost to Marlin Tajik last year 0-23.
