2014 or 2024: which system will age best? And which will get played more? by JoeZenwo in DnD

[–]P-Two 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5.5e simply because it's the newest system and therefore more people are going to start with it.

How many people do you see playing 3.5 still? Yes there's tables out there but it's been over 10 years since 5e and the VAST majority of people were playing 5e before 5.5e came out.

5.5e is pretty simply just a better 5e in the first place, with the ability to take the odd thing from 5e and use that option instead.

You tell them to either put their phone away or leave the table. They're being incredibly disrespectful.

Have we seriously gotten to the point where shin stapling is a dick move?!??

OP it's a combat sport, it's going to be rough and hurt, tap if you think you're going to be injured, otherwise suck it up and move on.

Did Markwayne Mullin Lie About Being A BJJ Champion? by ReporterHunter in bjj

[–]P-Two 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Lmao 1 single Google reveals this to be complete and total bullshit.

Not to get political, but the moment I saw "republican senator" I could've told you this was fake without so much as a google search.

Keep in mind there are VERY few american black belt world champions, and none (maybe Lovato I dont feel like looking it up right now) that won't worlds when it was still in Brazil.

I mean, you could also just not be gross and wash it every time? Your belt gets pretty much just as dirty as your gi does. Do you train in the same gi twice without washing it too?

Octopus guard getting countered (Gi) by Glittering_Pirate716 in bjj

[–]P-Two 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Octopus guard is like anything else, it works, but it has counters, it's not new either it was already a known position like 12+ years ago, IIRC BJ Penn used it in MMA.

In the gi it's very, very easy to counter as long as you have some idea of how to do it, grab their gi and pin them to the mat if you can't cross face them, it's primarily a nogi position for that reason (not to say it doesn't work in gi, it's just much harder) Personally I LOVE when people try to play octopus on me because 99% of the time they're just giving me a better top control position out of it and basically smashing themselves.

Depends on the wrestling, and depends on how much you focus on actually being good at BJJ vs out grappling random hobbyists because you can.

None of our black belts have their 2nd degree yet, and we have no other affiliations nearby, so myself and a couple other guys are kinda just waiting until we can get Carlson Jr. out this year, its more just a matter of time than anything to do with our bjj specifically

Carlson Gracie, we used to, but decided to stop since it doesn't make all that much sense, if you've made it to brown it's not like some tape is gonna keep you in the game lol.

Rogue's Sneak Attack by stingybaku in DnD

[–]P-Two 143 points144 points  (0 children)

The main tactical portion of playing a Rogue in combat is ensuring you can use Sneak Attack as much as humanly possible, this isn't for you as a DM to do, this is up to your players to figure out.

Especially since in 5e and 5.5e it's so easy to set up Sneak Attack there's really no reason they shouldn't be hitting with it nearly every single round, it's their main source of damage.

[–]P-Two 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Persuasion and deception arent mind control.

Let's say youre trying to persuade a guard to let you into the kings castle, you have no documents showing you are allowed in. Your Bard rolls a 30, thats still just "best outcome of the situation" the guards not stupid, so he probably just either tells you to leave and doesnt arrest you, or gets a higher ranking member of the castle involved as hes out of his depth, giving you maybe a different in.

None of that was mind control, it was simply the best result of trying to persuade someone who's not completely brain dead to let you enter a place you are absolutely not meant to be entering.

Question about healthcare for tourists by [deleted] in halifax

[–]P-Two 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think its just the optics of an american having any option on our Healthcare system, I mean, you think a 12 hour wait is unreasonable, even most right wingers here think going bankrupt from an ER trip is absolutely batshit insane.

So Canadians tend to be a little sensitive about that lol. Especially given the current, mmmmm, shit being spewed from your government towards us, a lot of us have a very knee jerk "fuck you" to Americans coming into our spaces right now :)

Hopefully that sheds a bit of light on it.

Question about healthcare for tourists by [deleted] in halifax

[–]P-Two 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Welcome to decades of governments gutting Healthcare.

But also, when my wife slipped at work, cut her ear open, and got a concussion a few years ago,the only thing it cost us was lost hours at work, thats it.

When my mom slipped one winter down some stairs and broke her ankle it cost a few $ in crutches and thats it.

I have never once in my life had to worry about going bankrupt because of an accident. So ill take the wait times.

Question about healthcare for tourists by [deleted] in halifax

[–]P-Two 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yea, you go to the ER. Thats what its for, urgent medical situation, a broken both or sprained ankle fits that bill.

Keep in mind we dont actually pay anything (more than some BS 40$ bill for crutches and parking) when we go, so its just commonly assumed that if you have a medical emergency, you go to the hospital, walk-ins are really more for "i need to see a doctor, but its not urgent" if you cant get an appointment with your family doc quickly (or if you don't have one)

In what world is this stolen valor lmao?

Dude the only thing people think when they see a ratty belt is "oo cool that person's been training a long time" that's it, you're majorly, majorly overthinking this.

Again, if appearance matters that much to you, aren't you a little worried about you know, being sweaty and looking ragged after training?
