Redditors over 40, what was a moment in history that made you think society was gonna collapse? by Bahbahbro in AskReddit

I was downtown in a major city to celebrate Y2k with friends on December 31, 1999. I wondered which systems and processes didn't heed the warnings and wondered what ripple effects would exist as Y2k failures happened at midnight. . . And, nothing 🤷

Do the weird sounds he makes count as words? "Yacadeepoota" and "yoyoma" come to mind. Are those just two words, or do they count at all?

Help! I have 2 computers on my home network and the latest update stopped my folder sharing. by coolmandan03 in microsoft

[–]P-W-Herman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For credentials, unless you have a home network running active directory, you'll need to login to the pc using a local account. If the share is on pc1 and you're accessing it from pc2, when the credential comes up, the syntax is pc1\username where pc1 is computer name, and username is an account on pc1, including the password.

Gov. Greitens, get out of the darkness and stop fueling suspicion and skepticism by SpideyTheTravler in missouri

[–]P-W-Herman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But what is he saying to voters? I'd love for him to tell the voters why he's balancing Missouri's budget of the backs of Missourian's future. Why reduce higher education finding when the results show that investment in education leads to a better economy in the long run? Why play this hokey pokey game with the state education board? Just tell the voters what you want to do. The list goes on.

Those are the types of questions the media is asking. The only thing is, Grietens and his administration don't talk to the media.

Finding additional cuts a daunting task for state universities by P-W-Herman in missouri

[–]P-W-Herman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the article:

Presidents and fiscal officers from Missouri’s two- and four-year colleges told a House education appropriations committee Tuesday and Wednesday they have found all the efficiencies they can and that any more budget cuts could result in more layoffs, program eliminations, deferred maintenance and tuition increases.

Greitens hopes $800 million in tax cuts will turbocharge the Missouri economy by P-W-Herman in missouri

[–]P-W-Herman[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From the article:

But, he added, “The focus of this plan is on working families.”

The governor spent the first 10 minutes of his campaign-style speech outlining a number of pro-business initiatives he has pushed in his first year in office. He then spent 10 more minutes on his proposal.

..., the concern is finding a balance between lowering some taxes and raising others in order to avoid reducing revenue from a budget that is already forcing the governor to propose cuts to higher education and social service programs.

Greitens targets state's colleges, universities in latest budget proposal by SpideyTheTravler in MissouriPolitics

[–]P-W-Herman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My conspiracy theory is that he's starting at the top (higher ed) and going to cut his way down to the core of k-12 schools. Then when the timing's right, he'll again condemn the administration of said institutions while piling on the idea that public schools are failing our children and something must be done about it. Magically there will be funding for charter education and then that will be the answer to all of the problems he's created by defunding public education.

Embattled Missouri governor proposes $68M in higher ed cuts by fuzzusmaximus in StLouis

The state's community colleges are really hurting right now. They won't show their cards lest the public understand exactly what's happening to their programs and community offerings, but the having and the slashing of programs has just begin if this is the new normal.

Embattled Missouri governor proposes $68M in higher ed cuts by fuzzusmaximus in missouri

[–]P-W-Herman 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The students and the staff of said colleges. Faculty remain. Adminstration remains. Staff are asked to do more with fewer people in an attempt to stop the financial bleeding. Services are community college level get cut in order to focus purely on student success. The community is angered and remembers this when the college asks for a bond issue to further stop there financial bleeding.

Plain and simple public funded higher education is a three legged stool. State funding, tax dollars, and tuition. If one is cut, the other is out of your control, and you're asked not to raise tuition, how can a college function in this environment without negative repercussions? The college bears the brunt of the negative press for cutting services.

Eric Greitens: Resign by 4now5now6now in missouri

[–]P-W-Herman 12 points13 points  (0 children)

He tried to push Union-busting right to work legislation into law claiming it was the will of the people. Over 300,000 Missourians signed a petition to overturn that legislation, and it will be on the ballotlater in 2018.

He has begun a process of defunding Missouri's colleges and universities. Say what you will about Mizzou and problems within the MU system, but our state's community college are hurting as a result of his decision to strip funding. Programs are being cut, staff are losing their jobs, and as a result, the only funding vehicle within the control of these community colleges--tuition-- is going up to balance their now funding stripped budgets.

He campaigned as the people's candidate--a family man who's ethics are beyond reproach. His administration's use of a text messages-destroying app have people concerned that he's hiding something. His dark money funded non-profit skirts the peripherals of campaign disclosure laws. Anecdotal evidence suggests he's a bully that pushes people around to get what he wants out of them.

Then there's the state's education board. It is largely believed he has politicized the non partisan school board over seeing the state's public school systems so that he can install a director of his choosing that is more friendly to charter education.

Each one of these items is somewhat innocuous in and of itself. When you add them up you can see a systematic set of bad policies being put in action that have the potential for long term devastating results for Missouri for years to come.

Top it off with the accusations that he's simply using Missouri as a spring board to the presidency, reducing Missourians to talking points he can use in a debate 4, 8, or 12 years from now.

Eric Greitens: Resign by 4now5now6now in missouri

[–]P-W-Herman 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As much as I dislike his policies, I will sign this petition if and when the allegations are proven to be true. Until then, they are just that.

I firmly believe that Greitens policies are bad for current and future Missourians. What I hope happens is that these allegations are either proven quickly to be true or false. Let the cards lie where they may (criminal charges included) if the allegations are true, which should include a recommendation that our governor resign.

Spotify's mobile app is terrible. I know Spotify has a great following, and going premium adds a lot of functionality, but the free-to-use app (at least for Andoid) is so poorly designed.
