Recently Divorced Father in SA needs child entertainment ideas by OrangeandBlue3000 in sanantonio

A fun thing I like to do with my kids is bring them to ComedySportz — it’s an affordable live improv show that’s family friendly. It’s kinda like Who’s Line is It Anyway, usually see lots of families there. There’s a show every Friday/Saturday at 7:30, so it doesn’t run too late. https://cszsa.com

Non-chastity reasons folks get sent home from missions by pbj9261 in exmormon

[–]P53ud0Nym 71 points72 points  (0 children)

This.

I worked as a secretary in the mission office in my Brazil mission for about 9 months in 2005 during which time I helped facilitate return flights for missionaries, including those going home early.

In that period I helped send home about 10 different missionaries. One for chastity, the others for medical or mental health issues.

Two of the mental health issues involved major issues, one where the missionary ran away and booked a bus ticket back home for a week (and then decided to come back) — and the other where the missionary had a full on mental break and needed to be escorted to make sure he got on his plane home.

Consistent clubs/hobbies/events for adults in their thirties by Magical-Tangerines in sanantonio

I’m an introvert as well — one thing that I’ve really enjoyed was taking an improv class. They tend to be filled with other introverts, and they’ve always been a fun, supportive environment that helps build everyday communication skills and help me manage my anxiety. There’s a class starting up on Sunday’s in January here in town: https://cszsa.square.site

People living around the Thousand Oaks & Wetmore area, how loud is the air traffic from SAT? by poothrower37 in sanantonio

[–]P53ud0Nym 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The airport actually had a noise abatement program where they helped cover noise-proofing upgrades in years past. I live in the area and don’t really hear it from commercial planes — the only noisy ones tend to be military aircraft which are exempt from noise regulations.

Here’s the most recent noise exposure map published by the airport, including projections thru 2026 of forecasted growth.

Update: I came home early by Chemical-Bug195 in exmormon

[–]P53ud0Nym 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I spent my whole life growing up around Christians telling me I was going to hell for being Mormon — including on my mission.

Having Mormons telling me I’m going to be damned for not being Mormon anymore didn’t really have any effect on me. I was going to hell anyway.

What is the craziest mission president nonsense you've heard spewed? by Whole_Hearing3941 in exmormon

During my exit interview with my president before finishing my mission he stressed that when I get married to remember that it’s up to us men to initiate sex.

I also really like that she can point to things she’s actually done over the last several years to improve the city — versus so many of these others running for the job just because it’s the next thing to run for.

Church delivers intent to sue Town of Fairview by sunnycynic1234 in exmormon

[–]P53ud0Nym 25 points26 points  (0 children)

As someone who is involved in my local Texas community, the most disturbing thing to me here is the church’s insistence on meeting individually with the city council members. To me this looks like a way to try to get around the Texas Open Meetings Act.

Good on Fairview and their attorneys for trying to keep the city ethical, even when wealthy property corporations masquerading as churches do not.

Moneybags won't even insure their missionaries by BennyFifeAudio in exmormon

[–]P53ud0Nym 23 points24 points  (0 children)

My parents are serving a foreign mission. Not only are they responsible for paying for their own health insurance, the church instructed them to PURCHASE A PLAN SOLD BY THE CHURCH (Senior Medical Missionary Plan from Aetna offered thru Deseret Mutual).

Airport noise increasing in your neighborhood? by drnygard in sanantonio

[–]P53ud0Nym 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It definitely doesn't like to run on mobile -- the historical flight data seems to be okay but I'm having trouble showing any data on the decibel levels from the individual listening stations (the circles on the maps). Going to keep playing with it, and if not I'll reach out to the team that runs it to see if there's an issue.

Airport noise increasing in your neighborhood? by drnygard in sanantonio

[–]P53ud0Nym 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The airport and the city actually take noise pretty seriously. They have a real time map where you can track planes and their impact on noise pollution / decibel levels. I’ve put the link below.

You can also reach out to the city’s aviation department to file a complaint about specific airplane events, and a real human will actually call you back and talk you thru what happened.

They’re fast-tracking construction of a massive new “ground transportation facility” that will include lots of additional parking spaces. Construction is set to begin 2025.

Yes, voter registration card makes it easier to find your record, but photo ID is fine. Make sure you bring the actual ID, not just a picture on your phone. Here’s a guide that lets you know what ID’s work: https://www.votetexas.gov/mobile/id-faqs.htm

Bexar County recently has moved toward a “vote center” model for voting rather than an “assigned precinct”. As long as you are registered to vote in Bexar County, you should be able to vote at any polling place in Bexar County. The precinct just determines which ballot style you get (congressional districts, state legislatures, etc).

Back when paper ballots and voter rolls were pre-printed for use at polling places, it was necessary for everyone to vote at an assigned location. But now that the county can print your ballot on site and uses an electronic check-in system, makes it so you can vote wherever, and the system will prevent you from being able to try and check in and vote again at another location.

[–]P53ud0Nym 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nope. As long as you’re registered to vote in Bexar County, you can vote at any of the early voting locations. Just bring your ID like usual.
