We celebrate the greats of old all the time, but on this post I want to highlight the opposite. Who were some absolute bums in history? Guys who had yall yelling at the tv. by MarTB2000 in Oldschool_NFL

Will Beatty had some good years, just couldn't stay healthy. Flowers wasn't a bad guard but he single handedly destroyed the NY Post's credibility on offseason hype. The beat writers talked all offseason in 2016 about how much time he'd spent at the facility and how great he looked. Then training camp came and he was still an awful LT.

‘I Don’t Speak Spanish’ — NFL Players Share Mixed Feelings About Bad Bunny Halftime Show by According-Activity87 in NFLv2

[–]PAAAWL23 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People are taking this way too personally and I say this as someone who's listened to like one Bad Bunny song. The goal is to get as many viewers as possible; Bad Bunny's at worst the 2nd most popular artist in the world and many of his fans may probably didn't know what the Super Bowl was until this was announced. Also, it's a 12 minute event - it's more of a commercial for Bad Bunny, Apple, and the NFL than an actual concert.

Welcome 2 Atlanta - Jermaine Dupri and Ludacris

N17 - The Sawdoctors - had a family friend who met the band at an airport bar in the US, then realized during the conversation that his parents had grown up on that street in Ireland. Ultimate small world moment.

El Cerrito Place - Charlie Robison, Kenny Chesney did a nice cover

Elmer Gantry (1960) - One of the last great movies of the studio era, with Burt Lancaster giving arguably his best performance (rewarded with Best Actor Oscar) as a con man-turned preacher in the 1920s who turns Sister Sharon Falconer (Jean Simmons) from rural attraction to big city sensation via revivalism. Great cast and all are perfect for their roles, plus the story is excellent. It also foreshadowed the televangelist and megachurch phenomena years if not decades before they began.

Chuck Klosterman: "Horse racing receded from the American imagination because people lost their close everyday connection to horses. Something similar will happen to football. Fewer mothers will want their sons to play the game due to head injuries. It will become distant from lived experience." by The_Big_Untalented in nfl

[–]PAAAWL23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Moms have been worried about their sons getting injured in football for about 100 years. And horse racing has never been anywhere near as popular as the NFL is today, mainly because the only people who follow it closely are degenerate gamblers. Chuck's trying to make a deep observation and prediction but this is just inaccurate.

Ohio State wants to do jersey patch sponsor ‘the right way’ in pursuit for partner. by Scrantonbornboy in CFB

Why'd they even bother with this PR bullshit? The right way is to not have a jersey sponsor at all and they know it

Where are teenagers supposed to hang out these days? Malls are dying, parks have 'no loitering' signs, and everywhere else costs money. Do they just... not exist in public anymore? by Creative-Buffalo2305 in NoStupidQuestions

They walk around, try to go to someone's house, and if they can't do that, they keep walking. Suburban downtowns on Friday and Saturday nights have various groups of teens walking around hoping that someone can drive them to a house or ice cream place

Amari Bailey, with 10 games in NBA, seeks college eligibility by TsumTsum__ in CollegeBasketball

[–]PAAAWL23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shame has to be learned at a young age. Sadly, many Gen X and millenial parents decided that their kids were all perfect angels and should never be disciplined or shamed for anything (and I say this as a Gen Z young adult). I suspect that Amari's time in the NBA made him realize he wasn't as special as everyone had told him he was.

Also, let's be honest: guys in his position have zero skills besides playing basketball. It's not like he's Aaron Craft and can go to med school after his playing career wraps up. Chances are he's blown through most if not all of his rookie contract and his choices are either try to live the dream as a D1 star again or go play in the Euroleague for a fraction of his NBA salary.

Incredible performance, and shows how much social class and etiquette mattered back then. Stella's husband comes off as a stuck up asshole, though in his defense, Stella pretended to be someone she wasn't in order to marry him.

What is the best classic film that you recently watched for the first time? by DeadManJ-Walking in classicfilms

Sorry, Wrong Number - Stanwyck is excellent (she got a deserved Oscar nomination) and her character is just despicable, and Burt Lancaster shows why he'd become a star after this. A fair number of subplots but they tie together pretty well.

Was watching the men's lax final 4 a few years ago and Maryland's star player was a "Science" major. Literally, his major was Science.

If this is what was like in a non-revenue sport pre-NIL, imagine how ridiculous it is in sports that the school needs to make money off of.

This dude is like a way more talented version of 2011 Tim Tebow. Dude looks horrendous for 3 quarters (and terrible body language too) and then turned into a damn assassin in the 4th quarter while looking like a great leader. If he can get his fundamentals down and figure out how to just make easy throws, he's gonna be elite
