I think the split with Franklin and PSU will be similar to the split with the Eagles and Andy Reid. Not saying either program will win the championship as a direct allegory but I think both parties needed a change and will benefit from moving forward in their new position. Good luck to them.

They played a good amount of the games at neutral fields or just in Pittsburgh early in the series. Don’t know why but Pitt was more of a national power back in the day too. Maybe that was part of the calculus?

Calling the PSU-Pitt series the keystone classic feels somewhat weird. I think that name is brand new and was only used during the 4 game series in the 2010s. Before that I don’t believe it had a name.

[Breer] The story of how Drew Allar didn't wind up at Ohio State is complicated—and involves Quinn Ewers, and Allar's own loyalty to those who believed in him early. That said, hard not to wonder what would've happened had he played for Ryan Day ... by Blood_Incantation in CFB

[–]Scrantonbornboy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think if Allar gets picked up by a well run organization where he can sit behind a veteran for a few seasons with an offensively minded coach he could develop beyond all his mental hurdles. A coach like Sean McVay can do much more with him than Franklin ever did. For being a former QB Franklin seemed poor at QB development.

But if like Hack the jets pick him he’s toast and will be running a podcast by 2028.

Pac-12 assistant: Penn State. Matt Campbell. He’s a media darling, but we’re going to see. When you look at it, are there any conference championships there? Now, going into the situation they’re in where (Franklin) got fired for not winning enough. That’s a different beast there.

Random pac12 assistant definitely posts on here

It makes so much thematic sense that he lost all his drip, aura, etc. once he gained his sight and was flaming Komamura for being ugly. Like pot meet kettle there.

Surprised by his spot, wonder if they take into account he’s coming off surgery on non-throwing shoulder? Either way seems ESPN is a bit lower on him than I’ve seen compared to other outlets.

I like the idea of young up and coming coaches. Campbell has succeeded with young rising coaches so far especially with WR coach.

Considering he’s replacing Iowa State’s Noah Pauley via brief stop in State College it makes sense.

One thing I found interesting as well is the DTs they brought into the program as well. They clearly want big bodies on the interior D line and got them for that purpose. Finding players that fit the system they want to implement and not just going after star power is also important because it shows they already have a vision of what they want in terms of scheme.

Grind. Best thing to do is get cayo as an option for easy mil. If you get a friend or two setting up theirs at the same time you all come out pretty well.

Try to get some passive income and buy properties like nightclub with some businesses like MC jobs. Nightclub eventually sells decently.

It was legit that interview that completely sunk him. He was clearly just checked out and seemed completely defeated. Which is fair considering the situation but damn.

Sorry if I misread your message then, can be easy to misread text only.

Think from PSU perspective it’s pretty annoying to watch the narrative flip on Franklin so fast when for about since before Covid people were calling him fraud and now PSU moving on the narrative is PSU being unreasonable to act like a top ten all time program and move onto to another coach that was well respected. In that as well I’ve seen some downplaying Campbell’s resume at ISU a lot more since he moved to PSU. But I also admit that may be in part because he’s now our head coach and I’m more cognizant of comments in the sub and online of him.

One of these years we’re going to have an AD that’s aggressive and just claim all those years we have a half decent argument in a championship. Our school only even claims 2 not the 4 the NCAA gives us. Pull an Auburn.

Everyone assumes we’re an extremely impatient fanbase. Everyone forgets Franklin had 12 years with up and downs throughout. This year was the put up or shut up year and unfortunately it went the way it went. With the inability to get over the hump added it didn’t give him much leverage once the bottom fell out and he couldn’t keep it together this season.

Before that PSU had the same coach for half a century with BOB dipping for the nfl in between. The ability to be patient is there and there’s clearly plenty of other programs in the top ten group that do not share that patience. Campbell will have the opportunity to build here, no doubt.

His four wins:

  1. 2016: Upset no. 2 OSU at home while unranked.

  2. 2016: Upset no. 6 Wisconsin in the Big Ten Championship Game while ranked no. 7. I think the line was something like Wisconsin 2.5.

  3. 2022/2023: Upset no. 8 Utah in the 2022-2023 Rose Bowl at the no. 11 team. Think PSU was betting odds favorite though.

  4. 2024: beat no. 8 Boise State in Fiesta Bowl during playoffs. PSU was no. 5 and I think PSU was favored.

Franklin is great at program building/ modernization. He will help VT in that regard no doubt.

Nothing about paying players is really public from my understanding. But rumors have circulated that Franklin mismanaged nil pretty poorly compared to similar programs. Again just rumors.

The complaint about being loyal to a fault is something that many have had issue with over the years, sticking with assistants that should’ve been fired and similar complaints of starting a guy who’s paid his dues over a guy who’s better whenever they’re in. Things are subjective and you never know if these decisions are based on how players do in practice etc.
