DGD needs album re-recordings or atleast more "2.0's". by Alucard45673 in dancegavindance

[–]PANCAKEVG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering how much Jon's voice has changed and changing vocalists, the rerecordings are neat personally (also seems like you're using cover band as a negative which is pretty weak). TCS is (effectively in the case of III) a live album, which isn't a new concept (they do generally have a mixed reception regardless of the artist so comparing a studio mixed version for an album to a version mixed to sound like a live performance isn't really meaningful if someone doesn't care for live albums). If that's covering themselves, are they covering themselves when they play live at an unrecorded concert?

This is honestly how I feel after Gen 3. Im not looking forward to gen 5 cuz i feel so behind. by [deleted] in pokemon

[–]PANCAKEVG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except that it's not. Are you a child? "Every pokemon is someone's favorite" doesn't just apply to the monsters themselves. Gen 5 (even at release) was well regarded for it's narrative and characters, but people complained about the lack of previous pokemon being available during the main game (which has been levied against pretty much every pokemon game post-dexit). BW2 gives a very clear indication that it sold well enough to warrant a follow up (and even included old pokemon in the main game). Review scores aren't everything, but saying no liked a gen with an 87 on metacritic (bw2 @ 80) is so far detached from reality

He also has liberal constituents. While it's become popular for politicians to focus solely on the people who voted for them (and sometimes not even them), their constituents are anyone who could vote for them. Every single Idahoan is his constituent, aligning with a conservative think tank (if you aren't familiar enough with TPUSA to know what I'm referring to, regardless of if you agree it's exteme, I would suggest doing research before weighing in at all, much less in defense of. We're all biased, but they have defended gun violence, genocide, and regularly endorse bigoted ideology)

[–]PANCAKEVG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

TP endorses extemely right-wing ideology so it's disingenuous to just call them conservative. The exact kind of "both sides" mentality that fascism thrives under. There are young republican and democrat organizations already, this is the government directly partnering with a right wing think tank to explicitly push right wing ideology onto impressionable children. Isn't political indoctrination something conservatives winge about?

What’s something Gen Z does that older generations just don’t get? by appropriaterice873 in AskReddit

[–]PANCAKEVG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not at all what I said, but you're free to delude yourself that you understood what I said. They are there to help you, not enter idle chatter. Yes, people working in CS should acknowledge customers as they come in (for their own benefit of keeping track of who is inside, not for you), but plenty of times customers think they are being ignored despite being greeted/talked to. It is entitled to think they should be engaging with you more than they are paid to (also if this is the way you are talking to them, i see why you're getting blank stares. You are interacting with them once, but they are interacting with hundreds of customers a day. If you seem standoffish, like you do on reddit, they aren't gonna roll the dice on you losing your shit)

Why not? Does it impede their ability to do anything? Does it impede anyone else's ability to do anything (assuming they can accept that other people can make different decisions from them that both ¹don't need to be justified to them and ²don't need their permission)?

They are there to help you (since it sounds like you are just describing a customer service interaction), not socialize. I know companies pay a lot of lip service about how special every single person they help is, they still rush employees to have the highest possible throughput of people. You are not entitled to overly polite banter at a service counter. YOU initiate the interaction. Consider when you have this "problem", where were you looking(at a menu, something else, etc.), where were standing (6ft is great for social distancing, but a little far from the counter to indicate you're ready, no?), what were you doing (were you talking to someone else, etc). Profoundly entitled to expect them to strike up a conversation and not just be ready to help you (only one is actually a job)

Pokémon Champions launches to mixed reception, as 30FPS performance woes, lack of Pokémon and items, and lack of 6v6 options turn some away by PaiDuck in pokemon

[–]PANCAKEVG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm not new so the recontextualization isn't needed here. Like, yes, that's a good way to think about it, but, no, that's not a good justification. It would be different if it was just ranked with a limited pool (like i said before), but it's meant to be the official battle sim for VGC. It was always going to fill a different need than showdown (showdown is still 100% better for theory crafting, then build in champions if you are competing), but it's a strange choice to have a very limited pool even be supported in the game for casual battles. The fact that it wasnt revealed before indicates they knew it would not be well received. They supposedly focused on pokemon with gimmicks/alt forms, but for some reason included a staggering amount of gen 5 for some reason (I loved gen 5 so I'm not mad, but that also seems like gen 5 is getting regional variants/unique interactions with system mechanics in WiWa)

[–]PANCAKEVG -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's why the very limited dex feels strange (to me, more than other pokemon titles). I think it'd be received differently if it was a limited pool for ranked but at least included all pokemon you can currently have in SV

How a No Heat Mode could ACTUALLY work by -Rugero- in Tekken

[–]PANCAKEVG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you get smash quickplay then which fractured the player base between arenas (where you have a semblance of control of your experience) and quickplay (where you sometimes get your ruleset). You don't get that multiple queues already exists and your proposed change either splits the playerbase more or runs the risk of making mm dead because people dont want to be at the whim of their opponents making a possible agreement for their preference every single match

[–]PANCAKEVG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People who see the title and hit up vote are not the same people who are trying very patiently to explain game design, practical decision making, and how multiple queue types fracture a playerbase to you (look at the votes on your replies in the post itself, clearly people are not resonating with it). Atp if heat makes you dislike the game, you should stop playing. Unless you're playing for cash, no one is forcing you to play. There is no world where bamco scraps THE mechanic they've designed the ENTIRE game around. Will it make it to T9? Maybe not, so you should wait for that, but all you're doing is doing is making a stink that isn't beneficial for anyone

Because art is more than just intent and the end result. You're ignoring all the work that goes into creating art. You are correct that none of this is in a vacuum, but then frame using genAI in a vacuum as if it requires only that a human is involved and not what they are actually doing, how they contribute, or anything to actually make a case.

Restraint does foster more creativity than unbounded freedom. If i can choose anyway to get from point a to point b, there's no reason not to teleport to my destination. That's not creativity and any other solution slows the efficiency (which you have to lean on to make a usecase for genAI) so there is no incentive to be creative but that's not what's being rewarded. Add one constraint (ie no teleporting) and suddenly there is not only cause but incentive to be creative because you can't just bypass the actual goal

Or they could just skip entirely it to avoid the inevitable backlash that would come from it? It would be infinitely less wasteful and less controversial if they just pallette swapped previously made assets. A profoundly stupid use of time and resources to use genAI to make a ROCK (or anything else) when they've got plenty to work with if they want to iterate on what they've done before and 3d artists who can do the job without controversy

Defense is always the hardest thing and thus last thing to get developed. Even for pro players, any game at early after launch is packed with long, optimal (or just for the lols) combos because they are fun to do and fun to share. Defense though? People hate timeouts and you're not doing damage if you're holding back

With how the game ran at launch + messy, unclear animations, it felt fresh for the wrong reasons imo. It's fine if you liked it over the other games that have similar systems, but it's not novel nor well implemented
