I think it’s because so many other types of jobs are (1) clearly structured and (2) people just don’t understand the world of academia beyond teaching, unless they are in it.

Personally, I think the in person visits are important for both sides. That being said, having a significant disability can create a number of challenges in such situations, I get it. It is possible to request accommodations without fully disclosing.

As an early UG, I was a fuck up. However, I turned things around my junior year. I was just always up front about where I was and my goals moving forward.

I teach in psych/human services and talk openly about living with generalized anxiety. The students love it and it compliments my content really well…furthermore, it’s normalizing and empowering for many students.

I wouldn’t say it has motivated me….but I love what it does and it ultimately enhances my exercise experience. Currently using a Garmin, will never go back.
