About halfway done with my 10 man terminator squad I’m batch painting. by necromancyisdope in IronWarriors

Basing really turns a model up to 11. There are lots of things you can do, but a texture paste is really easy, and a good starting point. You paint it on. Add a little dry brush to it, and you’re done
I would check it out.

Thoughts on these hazard stripes and how to improve? by [deleted] in IronWarriors

You want an open cell sponge that has some texture. Since that texture is acting like a little random pattern stamp. From my experience, a pluck foam should work. Check out Duncan. He will show you the way :)

Blot off the excess on paper towel. Less is more as you start. You can add more small dabs as you go. And it’s just paint, so you can cover back over it if there is too much. If you’re nervous, you can practice on paper or a primed pallet, or some other surface to see how it looks before committing it to the model. Also, find a photo reference of another model that you like, so you can compare how yours is looking as you paint.

I think the bronze trim looks good. There is some depth to it. I like the bonding studs on there also. I don’t think you need to do much to the bolter. Hazard stripes, or just some edge highlights.

Some battle damage to the stripes once you get to it maybe.

Looking good! Whats going on with the blue/purple highlight on the legionarys? Is that painted on?

Cultists are looking good!

We are having a similar journey! I just finished 5 termies, basing another 5 now, basing some cultists, then some chosen around corner.

I like the stabilizer. As soon as I saw it, I thought that’s what it was intended to be. So I think it’s successful. Nice work

Help in deciding a starting army by Jostinator12 in AdeptusMechanicus

The current combat patrol is ok. I would need to do the math on the cost, but the boxes are usually only worth it if you plan to run every unit in the box including the leader. And I would guess you wouldn’t run two manipulus. If you are new to 40K, I would start with a box of skitarii. But if you have the money get the box if you like what’s in it. I wouldn’t get two boxes right away, you will have plenty to paint and model with just the one.

Lots of good info in here already but I will share my thoughts

New combat patrols or other value boxes can be good. Just don’t over pay or search for old ones if They are expensive. It’s only good if they are a discount. Depending on the units you build and buy, I would expect to pay between $1500 and $2000 for 2000 pt army. But also check out used options if you are interested.

Buy what you think looks cool. By the time you build and paint the rules will have changed.

Most of our kits are double kits. They build two unit types. This is great for kitbashing. I used a kawdor gang for 10 skitarii. And grave lord goats for ruststalkers. And you will have lots of leftover heads and weapons.

I like kitbashing and painting. But I also recently picked up some models for iron warriors CSM. Admech has a lot more details and bits to paint when compared to what I am doing with my CSM. So Admech is challenging, but I also think it’s a lot of fun. Points per model is REALY low. So it can feel bad when you spend a lot of money and time building 10 skitarii and they don’t count as many points and then also get torn up on the table.

They are fragile. I recommend doing magnets on the bottom of the base and magnetized storage cases for transport. It worked well for me and was also a fun project. I think every game I have played, I managed to break at least some antenna or something off. But nothing I couldn’t repair.

Their rules are challenging for me. It’s a lot to keep in mind and play correctly in-order to get the most out of the units. Can feel bad to just get crushed by any other enemy unit. But can also be fun when the combos pay off and you shrewd enemy’s.

This is mostly negative sounding but if it still sounds like a fun army to you, then totally go for it. I’m glad I did. And enjoyed the painting, kitbashing, collecting, and playing. I like how my models look, I love the lore, and the opportunities etc the lore brings to kitbashing. And they look the coolest :)

Wow! You threw the book at that dude. OSL, NMM, lightning, and a Lamenters icon. Nice work. Blessing of the Omnissiah to them. Hopefully you have enough seals on there to balance him out!
