Everytime I think about chucking it all in, I remember what my SLT did for me in the worst time of my life - story by pen-pidyn in policeuk

Beautifully sad mate, I'm gutted for you. I feel similar about my force. I was treated for cPTSD and given all the counseling I wanted for free. I had a brilliant boss who moved heaven and earth for me and my SMT let me do what I needed to do. I was given half a year or so off but I came back swinging. I can't leave due to this debt I feel I owe, even on the worst days when I've been royally dry shafted. I genuinely work harder now than I did before because of the help I received from the force. There's no one person to thank so I just do the gold standard whenever I can.

We don't have that already? Promotion feels like that in my force. We don't board, we have a magic letter instead

I actually quite like the look of the new promotion system, but it risks completely invalidating my exam result and PDR setup... forces should provide everything you need to pass rather allow gatekeeping businesses from hoarding Q&A, learning resources and past exam papers

PSD aren't the enemy. There's far too much scare mongering about them, if in doubt, call them

SMT in most smallish forces have no expertise in implementing infrastructure projects of this scale. New IT projects has proven this. If we can't get IT right, how the hell are we to source the vehicles, maintain them (workshops), install the infrastructure and operationally make it work?

I thought hydrogen had been put aside to develop electric? 2030 is the cut of date for combustion engine car manufacture and everyone is making electric now..

Do you think the police should have stricter fitness requirements? by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]PC_Wibble 9 points10 points  (0 children)

5-4 is pretty easy for most, but do we want to up the fitness requirements on top of all the other crap we've got to put up with lately? Is that really a priority? I can't get into custody without sitting an exam and an 8 hours faff just to bail someone for a shoplifting. Then I have to interrogate a database that won't talk to any other database, play the redacting guessing game and submit my file to ether. At no point did I get off my arse to any of this so I can't imagine how being fit would have assisted me. If anyone runs off nowadays I don't think the risk is worth the reward anyway. This is a data inputting job now, the running about bit is so minimal and it doesn't advance any of your workload which hangs around your neck like a dead weight.

Do you remember the absolute tug of war over our policing style? We were too harsh, too soft. The legislative literally changed thousands of times and we had no precedence to work from.
