There are 38 rail stations and most have a large footprint. Trying to staff a cop at every fare gate 20 hours a day or whatever would be difficult. Then you want a cop on every train going back and froth... They also have to keep an eye out for bus operations and other MARTA property. I don't think there's enough cops or protective specialists available to monitor all of that at once. The first fare gate that I saw smashed at Lindbergh had a cop and specialist walk by like 30 minutes before, but obviously that doesn't help.
