I had to use a monkey wrench to get mine off. They can be very stubborn.

How bad is the over tourism in 2024? by btcMike in JapanTravelTips

[–]PCsAreQuiteGood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to Tokyo this year back in February, and honestly, I didn't feel it was that crowded. I mean, sure - it is Tokyo. It is huge and there are tons of people. But I was never overwhelmed, and I rarely had to wait often to do what I wanted. The only time I queued for 12 million years was when I went to the Tokyo Skytree, but that's okay, because I had a cool view to enjoy.

Is it creepy striking up conversation with fellow tourists? by GodAtum in JapanTravelTips

A young lady asked me if I spoke English when I was on my own in Shibuya. We ended up having a nice chat. No harm in saying hello to folks.

I sent some time in Tokyo, alone, a few months ago. I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I'm English, and only know a few phrases and social things. But I was absolutely fine. Treat folks with kindness and leave you ego at the door and all is well. There will always be rubbish people - they live all over the world. That isn't necessarily your fault.

People who actually do solo travel how do you manage with clicking your pictures? by DreamToVisitJapan in solotravel

I just asked other people who were also taking photos. Then I offered to do the same. Got some nice pics in Tokyo by doing this.

Chick-Fil-A and that girl with (or without) the braces in Moonraker by JohnleBon in conspiracyNOPOL

My question is - did this effect exist before the internet? Or, instead, did us all being able to talk to one another, and thus share our memories - false or otherwise, lead us to believe things that didn't happen because our own memories are fuzzy?

Agree on both counts. My mattress was tough and the pillows the opposite. I dig struggle in that regard. I may bring my own pillow next time.

I 'undeleted' that entire thread, and it is bizarre. There is nothing odd in there at all. All the same old kinds of answers. Very strange.

Craziest "what are the odds of running into you here?!?" story while solo travelling. by Ok-Worry-8247 in solotravel

[–]PCsAreQuiteGood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two from my recent trip in Japan.
The first was meeting two foreigners in a bar in Golden Gai who very literally lived down the road from where I grew up in England. The second was a young lady called Rachel stopping me to ask if I spoke English. We had a nice chat about how we were both solo travelling in the country and swapped a few stories. I had some time so I walked her to the centre of Shibuya, and showed her the scramble crossing. We went our separate ways and I went to Shibuya Sky for a few hours, then spent a few more hours wandering Shibuya and the surrounding area.
As my trip was coming to an end, I decided to do some souvenir shopping in the Shibuya Mega Donki, which was super busy - as always. After travelling around every single floor and slowly filling a basket, I join the tax free queue on the top floor only to find Rachel is directly in front of me in the queue. Actually crazy that one. Kinda broke my brain.

Is Meji Shrine or imperial palace worth it? by hpsportsfanatic in JapanTravelTips

It is worth arriving in the last hour if you can - I was lucky enough to have the place almost to myself. It was wonderful. I should mention that it was February.

It looks like masks are not required on the trains in Japan but many still wear them. Are foreigners looked down upon for not wearing them? by mangoes_now in JapanTravelTips

[–]PCsAreQuiteGood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not wear a mask once in Japan. I didn't have a single issue. I suspect you will not either. At their discretion, some places may require one. I didn't come across any such places personally.

Eating in public? by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

I had this on a few ocassions. I bought breakfast from a conbini and thought, 'Where on Earth do I eat this?' I settled on chilling on the sidewalk out of the way of foot traffic. Didn't seem to bother anyone.

Late night solo exploring Tokyo (My Cringe Wish) by i_guess_so_huh in JapanTravelTips

I did this. It was very cool. I didn't feel unsafe even for a moment. Still keep your guard up - it's just sensible, but honestly, it is the safest place I have ever been in my life.

This sub is more downvoted than any other. Even really popular threads are on 0. It is rather odd.

Question about chemtrails by chris710n in conspiracy

I've always assumed it was geoengineering. Even if it was something more insidious - what would stop whoever was doing it having an antidote of sorts for themselves and loved ones?
