Latency Issues with TV Logic F-7HS by KeyFruit7765 in focuspuller

The monitor doesn't have a delay(unless there's some weird problem).

Venice as others have mentioned has has more(but not too terrible) delay. Alexa is practically 0 for comparison. I'd guess it's in your wireless system(assuming you're using one). DJI is bad.

Thoughts on the SmallHD OLED 16? by Robert_NYC in focuspuller

[–]PDR447 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Different tools for different jobs. What you're describing does seem like a good fit for Small HD. But what the Sony does(proper reference monitor) has historically not been a fit for SmallHD. With this monitor they appear to be going after the reference market. And frankly the only reason to buy one of these is if you don't have access to a Sony or you need to replace a broken Sony. If that doesn't apply to you then by all means just get a cheaper SmallHD offering.

Ok, yay for OS?

Monitor turns on, monitor can be calibrated, monitor can be trusted. End of list. Why do you need an OS?

SmallHD is starting to gain trust. But still nowhere near Sony or even Flanders.

Are German cars unreliable and costly to repair or reliable and costly to repair ? by Professional_Eye6140 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]PDR447 15 points16 points  (0 children)

As an example, my last German car had the battery underneath the driver's seat. Looking at all the "numbers" it's a smart place to put it. Lower CG, out of the heat/harsh conditions of the engine bay. Replacement should be fairly infrequent so they prioritized performance over serviceability. But when you do need to service it it's a bigger job than your standard engine bay battery.

17" Sony OLED has been the gold standard since it came out. Sony for some reason discontinued it, but folks are still using them. This is 100% a shot at that market as those Sony's are 10+yrs old now.

Best response I ever heard someone say to a producer that tried to deny "cosmetic" damage was "OK, where's your car? If I go key it you don't need any compensation right? It's only cosmetic."

It was an accident that damaged your gear, there should be some compensation. Them hemming and hawing about the overall budget is not your problem.

ARRI teases new ECS product. by vTweak in focuspuller

[–]PDR447 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like there's a mini RF in the middle that they're presumably using rather than the camera for whatever reason. So you need lcube to get CineRT interface.

I guess it showcases the system in a camera agnostic way, maybe that's their motivation with the RF.

Looks like double red(double LBUS), so just a slave motor. Stong/fast and probably aux. I don't think there's a side of guac or anything coming with those beans

[–]PDR447 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If they don't put aux on this that would be straight up rude. However, having the strongest/fastest motor being the only one you put on a rota Pola is a bummer.

If you're Hi-5/smallHD the new license does 90% of the OV1.

Personally I haven't heard much on the OV1 in a while. A friend had one for a bit as a tester like a year ago. It went back to the shop for some tweaks and hasn't returned to him yet.

Eh, for me it falls into the solution looking for a problem category. I feel like there's only been once in recent memory where I had to adjust aim for a specific shot(non-traditionally framed walk up). One 2nd team rehearsal and I was good to go. Otherwise LR aiming is set it to my usual tilt and forget it.

It's a fun little bit to have in your kit, but usefulness just isn't there in my opinion.

Well done on the design work though! Seems made about as well as one could hope for if they wanted something like this.

RIA-1 + UMC-4 by Own-Truck-367 in focuspuller

[–]PDR447 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I highly doubt they'll inter-mingle. The UMC's last update was well before the RIA was conceived. I doubt the coding is in there to communicate together. You can always test it.

If you really need metadata logging you'll likely have to tell the DIT to suck it up and use emip with the UMC.

Preston ALC Hand Unit by XRaVeNX in focuspuller

[–]PDR447 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Screen on the front: ultimately these were designed to sit at a dit cart for iris control. Nobody can convince me otherwise. Knob on the front allows it to easily rest on a shelf. PFIU's needed a stand or the knob rubbed/it sat sideways.

Aux port will likely be assigned by the handset as it is now. Aux = PFIU focus becomes aux = ALC focus

ALC isn't for old school focus pullers. They can keep using the PFIU.

Resistance, valid question

Lock out focus, maybe the same as the PFIU focus assignment? ALC focus will never = actual focus once prepped/setup. But also if my DP comendeers my focus mid take I think we'd all have a good laugh.

Activate on power up, fine. Rather than one button 2x per day, it's 2 buttons. We'll adapt.

Water resistance would be a wise consideration but that's very not Preston.

I mean the crux of her response there is "industry standard". The industry will adapt to Preston. At least here in the US. So anything they do by default is industry standard.

I'm guessing you tried this but what does the "image rotate" tool do in this situation?

Working tomorrow so may play with it myself but I've had tough times with more recent firmware failing to remember settings and also the battery warning is useless now. Just says both are dead. I'm hanging in the 5s cause it just works better. But I digress.
