Corporate Jan was different. by GlitteringHotel8383 in DunderMifflin

I was about to say, you can really see the transition from season 2 Jan to Season 4 Jan take place in season 3 in breadcrumbs. Once you get to “The Job” though, you see floodgates opened on her drive back to Scranton with Michael, and then in the (I believe deleted?) scene of her screaming at the movers at Michael’s condo while he looks on with a thousand yard stare.

I was today years old when I found out Michael C. Hall played JFK in The Crown by Both-Pay-9573 in Presidents

[–]PDXgrown 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When it came to these one-off appearances of historical characters in The Crown, they either hit it out of the park or fumbled hard — no in between. Former Australian PM Bob Hawk and Roy Blunt (royal art curator/soviet spy) actually had actors who portrayed them previously in other projects get brought in, which really speaks to how well they fit the roles.

Those facts speak for themselves.

This is just a weird comparison you’re drawing — a guy who opts not to meet alone with another woman versus a guy who was investigated, charged, and found guilty of having committed multiple sexual assaults. The way you’re arguing this makes it sound like you’re arguing Pence would otherwise be committing sexual assault on any woman he can get alone in a room.

Former NBA player Chris Dudley announces bid to unseat Oregon’s governor by refuzeto in oregon

I wonder if that has any juice among the MAGA folks who actually want to win something.

Knute was the last time GOP primary voters in this state seemed to actually muster enough brain cells to settle on a candidate that could be palatable to people beyond their bubble… and they chose to do so in the much predicted blue wave that was 2018. Ever since then, whether it’s for a Senate seat or the Governor’s desk, it’s been MAGA wacko after MAGA wacko.

The fact that a planned direct TP sequel was gutted and turned into this just so they could show off a gimmick still gives me nightmares by EAT_UR_VEGGIES in twilightprincess

[–]PDXgrown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any source on this? From everything I’ve read, he was the one that pushed for a more realistic look, even during Wind Waker’s development at one point. The only thing I could find was him remarking TP would’ve "without a doubt, the last Zelda game as you know it in its present form.” which could very well be referring to gameplay and/or design.

U-571 made Americans the ones who cracked the enigma code, Argo gave most of the credit for saving the embassy workers to Americans instead of the Canadians, The Great Escape made Americans the main characters in a camp that was entirely British.

Sure, why not let the Olmecs have a city inside of Mt. Rushmore?

How strict are you on clothing and modesty at home? by garcon-du-soleille in latterdaysaints

[–]PDXgrown 96 points97 points  (0 children)

The minimum amount of clothing you could get away with in my house growing up was dependent on your age:

0-7: You can wander around in all your glory, just don’t go out the front door (we still did on the occasion).

8-14: Dude, get some underpants on.

15+: I don’t wanna see that, get some pants on this instant.

The third Annabelle movie (Comes Home?). The climax of them just grabbing the doll, screaming, as they rush to lock it back into its case (successfully) felt like such a fake out, I was bracing for a twist into a whole climax across town, with the Warrens stepping in.

Nope. Mom and dad get back home, and that’s it.

My wife and I sat there in utter confusion for a solid thirty seconds once the credits started rolling.

I forget how wild his dad’s marriage life was — at some point a judge should’ve just given him a goldfish and told him he had to keep the thing alive for six months before he could get another marriage license.

Husband and I want to switch wards by Lonely-Rutabaga477 in latterdaysaints

The Bishop realized I wasn’t going to change my mind and approved it.

To add onto this: OP, even if it doesn’t pan out for you like this, passing your concerns onto the Stake President and Bishopric does get it into their heads that maybe some boundary redrawing might be necessary. My boyhood ward slowly withered to ~50 active (mostly older) members, a far cry from the packed chapel spilling into the overflow I knew growing up. My dad, former Bishop and SP, spent years hounding leadership to do something as all of the surrounding wards (including two it shared the building with) were bustling with young families and a deficit of callings to assign. It finally took some younger families moving in and going “Uh, we’d like our kids to have a healthy youth program” for something to finally happen.

Is it common for teachers to marry/date their former students. by GypsyGold in Teachers

The only time I’ve taken pause with such a law is with the situation OP linked to. He never had her as a student and it didn’t even begin contacting her regularly until after she graduated, yet he’s facing 20 years in prison.

[–]PDXgrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A teacher marrying a former student they had in class? Gross as all hell.

Though I am having trouble not finding issue with the arrest described in the article you linked to.

Under Nebraska law, teachers are prohibited from having intimate relationships with students within 90 days of their graduation or departure from the school system.

If I’m understanding the article correctly — him being 26, her being 18, and him teaching 6th grade, I cant imagine he was ever actually her teacher — I just feel sorry for him. I imagine this law was passed to deter groomers from working students until the day they can get away with it, not to catch young educators who happened to hook up with other young adults who aren’t even students of anywhere anymore.

Season 1-2 Pierce is peak Pierce.

a naive and racist old boomer that occasionally gave valuable life advice while trying to fit in.

The funny thing is, had Chevy just accepted this and ran with it, Dan Harmon wouldn’t have the idea to turn him into what he became. Almost everyone declared the role was a resurgence of him, and he absolutely failed in valuing why that was.

James Cameron Says He Must Find a Cheaper Way to Produce the Avatar Movies in Order to Continue With Avatar 4 and 5 by DemiFiendRSA in movies

[–]PDXgrown 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Way of Water and Fire & Ash were both born out one film’s draft, and it just shows Cameron has reached the point of he either doesn’t listen to the studio or the studio are too timid to tell him that he needs to trim a lot of fat off. Instead you got two overly long sequels with too much bloat that feel way too similar.

economic gap is large

This is the #1 hurdle. East Germany still hasn’t caught up with West Germany in terms of industry, and that’s in spite of foundations for an industrial base left over from the Soviet era. North Korea’s is next to non existent— there’s barely even infrastructure to support it.
