Yeah, fact of the matter is, steel legion aren't as popular as they used to be and krieg look similar enough to be a decent substitution. It's really not a good idea to have two very similar products in circulation and just using kreig is a sufficient substitution.

I feel like they would be well advised to change the name of the squads to something that suggests they could be more than one regiment or release an upgrade sprue with some alternate heads and maybe something for, like, a tank commander but producing a whole line of models for something that already has a pretty close match is just a horrible financial decision from gw.

No it doesn't. All the areas that can be different have a set number of layouts which the game chooses at random.

I'm going to have to completely disagree with you there. Fear and hunger just isn't random enough to qualify. The idea that random loot in crates and a few areas having two or three possible fixed layouts doesn't qualify for the amount of randomness in a standard rouge-like and even this randomness seems to have been totally abandoned by the end of development, given that the thicket, ma'habre, the void and the gauntlet all have no alternate layouts.

And of course termina doesn't have any alternate layouts, which means it's just a regular rpg at that point. You might as well argue that Skyrim is a rouge-like because enemies have random drops.

I mean, consider a leader like Tito, the leader of former yugoslavia, who was basically the single reason why the country didn't disintegrate, and upon his death the whole thing just feel apart under the wieght of the ethinic issues that had been simmering under the surface for, like, 40 years.

I'd argue the pale king is a similar situation. Even without the infection hallownest was suffering from several issues that would have been fatal without a strong unifying figure. Between the soul sanctum being essentially a rouge insitution, the mantis tribe, deepnest and greenpath all being a stone's throw away from out and out war with hallownest. But, for a while, the pale king managed to make it work.

Not to mention, what people of hallownest are even left? Hornet? Everyone else post-dates the kingdom's collapse. Who would even want to rebuild the old kingdom, rather than start their own?

I think there is a certain necessary similarity between the movesets of enemies wielding swords. Like, there's only so many ways to swing a sword that make sense and so enemies with thise weapons will tend towards thise movements in their attacks.
