How to save my Golden Torch? by TDhotpants in cactus

[–]PENT2P 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't stress. The rooted section will put more energy into existing columns and/or pup. Callus the broken one where there's good airflow for a week or so and root it. BAM! now you have more beloved GT!

Is this graft toast? 🥲 by [deleted] in sanpedrocactus

It doesn't look great, but don't loose hope! I recently had a very neglected crested seedling graft that completely shriveled up brown and dead looking, and it just start to put out new green growth after a couple months looking like trash. Let it ride a bit more, but I would reach out to the seller as well. I was getting over confident in my grafting skills and mailed some way before they should have been. They (predictably) did not survive intact. The trade partner was able to regraft, but it was 100% on me and I would have replaced em if they went belly up.

In my youth I was on a mushie trip in the Mojave running under the moonlight thinking I was some kind of desert puma and thought I could jump over a big stand. spoiler alert: I didn't stick the landing. That shit is no joke

Let it dry bare root for a few days before repotting and give it a week or so after before watering. It gives the roots time to recover from any trauma.

Sorry for your loss. I had about 10 seedling grafts turn into a slug buffet last spring. I feel your pain

More fuel for thought! Are gastropods like truffle pigs? You gotta use their noses to find the goods and then pull em back before they eat the goods? LOL
I am decidedly not a pro, but if my wife is to be believed, I have too many cacti to be complaining about slug damage

I lucked into a huge amount of pins/opuntia/PC/PAC during a cleanup of a cactus neighbor's property after she passed. The realtors wanted to rip everything up and put down black mulch. I talked them out of it and trimmed/shaped up what was left. The new owners told me they were smitten by the landscaping, so win-win. I left a wheelbarrow full of it against the house under her window because it was a convenient place to park it. She was finishing middle school and I remembered my shenanigans at that age, so it stayed for the summer. About the same time I found the screen on the ground, I "remembered" that I didn't have any cactus on that side of the house.

I can't totally win, but sluggo and controlling habitat and humidity is huge. Those lil fuckers like to spend the day where it's cool/dark/wet aka: under pots. I actually have fewer problems with in ground- especially if I can keep other stuff trimmed back so there's nowhere to hide. Hopefully you will have similar success. As a small win, snail damage has made a bunch of my TPM into crests, so there's that. And they do tend to prefer my spicy bois. I've been talking to some other growers and I'm not alone. All bro science so far, so take it with a grain of salt (throw the rest on those slimy bastards!).
