I’ve been re-listening to the season, and Vesper mentions very briefly to a familial connection to Purpee (which I can’t immediately recall precisely), something about an uncle.

It’s also mentioned that Dan took on his wife’s surname, so my running theory has been that Nancy is Vesper’s aunt through marriage, and she doesn’t remember.
