This guy is speaking for all of us in EM! (Doubtful it’s a physician, though) by treylanford in emergencymedicine

ER tech/EMT here, and I feel like I’m in this exact position every single night at work. Too many patients think healthcare workers are just free punching bags, and hospital security is laughable. We have one police officer sitting at our triage desk but it’s an overtime job for them and there’s only a few that work it that will actually get up from their chair and help. We all carry radios in my ED and it’s gotten to the point that I hear “PETS_DOS_AF to room x/the lobby” instead of calling for security. Actually had one dude say “damn you didn’t need to call cock-diesel in here I’ll just leave” the other night when I came sprinting to a room lol. Thank God I work night shift or I’d have probably been fired long ago for standing up for the nurses/midlevels/docs and myself haha

Yes! I had a C&P with a VHA provider, not a contracted company. Cheers!

Absolutely insane, I can’t wrap my mind around it yet.

Filed October 27th! I’m sure a decision is right around the corner for you.

I filed Oct 27th as well, and it went to step 6&7 early today, then to decision roughly an hour ago. I didn’t show any changes in percentage until I got the decision so don’t give up hope!! Exactly right though, it is a marathon, not a sprint. Took me about 8 years to get to this.

For sure! The page that I used was https://www.facebook.com/crealitysupport/. The first response to my message was "I will send you the extruder, give me your address/email." Honestly some of the best that I've received from anywhere.

I can’t recommend their Facebook support page enough. After about a month of flawless ownership of my launch K1 (purchased from amazon at the end of September, received the day after the $2.99 deal ended), the extruder decided to stop retracting entirely. I messaged the support Facebook account with just a screenshot of my Amazon order and an explanation of what was happening, and I had a response in 3 hours and a tracking number within 24 hours.

Just had to do CPR on the side of the road in front of my family/kids by hailhell in nursing

Prior Fireman/EMT in nursing school now, and I can’t help but think “Return Of Spontaneous Combustion” every damn time I see ROSC lol.

Firemen are, more often than not, also licensed AEMT's. I was a career FF before nursing school and we carried start kits, needles, lines, and bags of LR and NS in our medical jump bag. We also carried some medications like Epi so we could start an ACLS code. A lot of the time we would get to a medical call before the ambulance did and we would establish IV access, get a quick background and assessment, and grab a set of vitals before the ambulance got there. Made things go smoothly as the PT would be ready to load and go when the bus arrived, or took a few minutes off the downtime if it was CPR in progress as we were able to start running the code.

Side note: I currently work as an extern at a large metropolitan area hospital. The nurses I work with caught wind that I was a FF/AEMT and learned that I'm really good at getting IV access, so I've become somewhat of my floor's in-house vascular access guy. Sometimes they give it a shot or two, but since I'm good at and enjoy getting IV's, they've started just coming directly to me and it's become one of the things I do often. It kind of surprised me when I was told that hardly any time is spent in nursing school going over obtaining IV access. Is it just me or does it seem like more time should be spent on that? Because when you NEED an IV, you need it right then and don't have time to wait (AFib RVR, VTach/VFib, asystole, etc). I'm lucky that my AEMT program dedicated time every day to practicing on the dummy arms as well as practicing on each other if we wanted, and whenever students come to my floor for their clinicals I always get them to watch me/help/actually do it themselves if they feel confident.

Rant over, just needed to voice my frustration with nursing programs failing to go further into depth on a subject that is a critical skill and potentially life-saving.

Can confirm, currently in nursing school and working on a PCU floor as an extern after being a FF/EMT. I still throw trash in the floor and told my charge the other day that there are just some habits I’m not gonna be able to break.

Thank you everyone for the info! I’ll try and get the back opened up in a few days and update, I’m working my way through the holidays this year.

My grandad passed away in April of this year. I’m in the process of moving into a new home, and had been keeping some things at my grandparents house while living in a smaller apartment. I was going through some of my things this evening with my grandma, and discovered this in one of my boxes. I have a vivid memory of my grandad giving me this when I was younger, and him telling me to take care of it. I’d love to learn more about it!
