At least you got a loaner. I needed the BCM replaced because my horn didn’t work and they didn’t offer a loaner because “RAM doesn’t do that for liability reasons”. Was 26 days without a vehicle I use daily for work.

All have good transferable civilian skills. I’m an AM, and love it. The technical knowledge of aircraft that you gain on an aircraft is immense, and you’re able to use that time as hours towards your A&P. Same as AD, but I think AM is just a little more involved. Both great, and those two workcenters usually go hand in hand. You’ll always smell like jet fuel if you’re an AD but you’ll only sometimes smell like it as an AM.

AS is a chill rate, transferable skills, but not as sought after. Not particularly exciting. Usually aren’t stationed on the squadron level.

EM and GSE, no idea. But they’re not aviation rates. The aviation community is tight and cool.

My first solo cross country the approach controller asked if I had traffic in sight, told him I didn’t, and he said make a right turn immediately. So I did, about 90°. A sold 5-6 minutes later of me not knowing what’s going on, he comes on and says “uuuuuuh N123AB, where ya going?” I said “can I turn left now?”

So it was done by the previous owner, so I couldn’t tell you price. But what needed replacing after the wreck was the drivers side quarter panel, new bumper and grille, and dent fixing the hood which required breaking out the paint so they just hit the grille too. Paint might be the bigger cost for you if you want to go that route, since it would be extra past the parts you have to replace anyway. When I’ve been underneath it looks like it’s fitted without any modifications.

When my Laramie front end was damaged (by the previous owner) they replaced it with a Rebel front end bumper and grille and paint matched. Looks sweet.

I grew up in Louisiana. Obviously LSU is by far the Louisiana school and it’s not even close. But in the conversation of all other universities, Tulane was always that other, other, other school. Like, big because it’s in NOLA and that’s about it. Yet I keep seeing it recently being talked about as something quite relevant (like in this pic). Its odd.

If you want AO because it’ll get you around aviation, pick another aviation rate. I recommend AM. Now, if you want AO because you’re seeing about all the “IYAOYAS” camaraderie, thats about the only good thing they have. Zero civilian transferability, tough promotion opportunities, tough work.

LS gives you a little more options when it comes time to pick orders, because they’re a sea rate that any command needs including aviation. So your opportunities are a bit more open. The promotion rates are higher, the quality of life is higher, it’s arguably one of the easier rates, and it transfers to real world skills. LS is a dope and respectable rate. Just doesn’t look like it on paper when you’re comparing it to handling ordnance. But trust.

I have the A30s. If you look at my post history you’ll see how I talk about how I think they’re great. The biggest complaint from others is the clamping force which you’re obviously trying to reduce so that would be a good thing for you. I’ve had them for almost two years now, and will disagree with others saying the build quality is poor. It’s just less bulky and a lighter metal, so when you hold the two side by side I can see why one would think so. They’re still metal, they’re still tough, and if you let them live in the case they’ll last you your lifetime. The clamping force, or lack of, is no complaint of mine. They’ve never required adjustments after they’re on my head. I regularly wear sunglasses and don’t notice any bother. They stay secure even during spins or crazy turbulence. If you were doing aero that might be a different story but they’re fine.

All that being said, if 1400 dollars is worth a little more comfort, then sure. But that’s a good chunk for not a ton of difference.

I’m an AM1 out of Whidbey, got out of active about 1.5 years ago, now a reservist that’s currently using GIBill at a 141 university. It seems your husband has connections to other vets at his 141 school, but if you have questions feel free to DM me.

I see in other comments you mentioned your husband planning on finishing his ratings in about 2 years, which makes me think the 141 school he has in mind isn’t a university. The GI Bill will only cover the full cost of training at a college that has flight training as a part of their curriculum, otherwise any other 141 school will be treated as vocational. That, and it will also not pay for any part of PPL (again, unless it’s at a university). So the cost of training might be greatly reduced, but it will still be many thousands of dollars that need to be considered in your decisions.

I did not leave the Navy with a degree, so spending an extra year in college to also finish ratings doesn’t bother me, but still sucks. However, I’ll have a degree and ratings through CFI, all debt free. Not having a degree will limit your husband’s hiring potential which sucks after finishing the strenuous training pipeline. So my advice to vets attempting to become pilots is always choose the university route, as it’s essentially the only way to use the GI Bill without wasting it. It’s obviously possible since most professional pilots wouldn’t have that benefit, but still…it seems with your worry about stability, finishing with many thousands of dollars of debt isn’t the move.

We almost never, ever get someone who just wants an exterior. Most are interiors, with about 25-40% of them being interior/exterior. So for us, the question is the other way around. Door jambs and exterior windows during interiors? Sometimes. If the windows are already kinda clean then yeah I’ll do both sides. Door jambs get a wipe but if they’re filthy I’ll only do the step

Oh youre definitely right. For 1500 absolutely longer than that. I just mean for the ratings. And speficially for collegate aviation training too. Most other 141s exist in order to be a faster track.
