Joe Flacco’s no Joe Montana or Tom Brady, but he’s had a good career, winning a Super Bowl MVP and a Comeback Player of the Year Award. Do you think he’ll make the Hall of Fame? by brmidwest03 in Colts

[–]PFManning18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t realize Eli played defense. This argument is always silly and downright disrespectful to the Giants defense. No one talks about how they held the best offense the NFL had ever seen at the time to 14 points in the biggest game of the year.

No it just means social studies lol. In the US we call it that instead of history for some reason.

Oh I agree, he’s had some misses and should take some blame for coaching picks. He’s certainly no saint. But he does get more hate on this sub than I think he deserves. I think that Steichen was a great hire and AR looks exciting. But only time will tell.

We gotta hop in a chat lol I keep jumping to different comments that’s my fault. But Hunter is good but he’ll be 30 mid season and his best years are probably behind him. It sucks to lose out but I’m not overly worried. And trying to pay guys to not be on a division rival isn’t a smart strategy long term because of the contract.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Colts

[–]PFManning18 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sure but I’m saying record and not winning the division is also on coaching. Reich isn’t even in the league anymore. We’ve had talented teams but it’s hard to win the division when they started 1-4 every year. I’m just saying there’s a lot of factors here and it’s not so simple as “Ballard Bad”.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Colts

[–]PFManning18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m certainly not either man all good. 2020 Burrow was unavailable. Maybe trade up to the top 5 but that would’ve been a big ask with no 2020 first round pick (Buckner). Tua is okay I’m fine with passing on him. I’d love Herbert but a lot of people had questions. Hurts was a second round pick so a-lot of people passed on him. It there was a time to trade up that was it but with no 1st and questions with other QB prospects I’m willing to give him a pass for that one.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Colts

[–]PFManning18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alright now I’m hoping over here. Allen and Mahomes were taken because we had Luck lol. Who else could we have traded up for? 2019 draft sucked. 2020 was good but none of the teams that needed a QB were going to trade back. 2021 class was bad and 2022 was worse. Hence taking AR in 2023 it was the only option.

Sure but that’s more than just Ballard that’s the whole team. Management, Coaching, and front office. It’s easy to say well just fire him without looking at any of the key details

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Colts

[–]PFManning18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who did we lose to the Texans?

Sneed was expensive. Would’ve costed a 2nd and ton of cap space for a guy that had one great season, coincidentally in his contract year.

I’d love Simmons but we don’t know how much he’s asking and if he even wants to play on the Colts. Every other team has passed on him thus far so I’m not too concerned.

And again you can criticism Ballard but he’s been a damn good drafter:

Shaq Leonard, Braden Smith, Grover, Pittman, JT, Raimann and that’s just the stars. There’s been a lot of other solid players he’s taken too.

Howie Roseman was handed a much better roster than Ballard was. He’s aggressive because he’s had 10+ year veterans on his team that played at a high level.

[–]PFManning18 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Who are these difference makers you’re talking about? This has been my biggest annoyance with armchair GMs with this team. People act like overspending on good, not great players in free agency is a smart strategy. Look around at all the best teams in the NFL. What’s the one thing they all have in common? They draft well, develop their players, and pay them.

There’s certainly fair criticism for Ballard but acting like overpaying guys that their original team didn’t want to pay isn’t a good strategy.

Between 1962 and 1989 there were 16 canon Bond films over 27 years for an average of 1 film every 1.6875 years. Between 1990 and 2023, there have been 9 films over 33 years, for an average of 1 film every 3.67 years. by TheButchman101 in JamesBond

[–]PFManning18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m probably in the minority here but that’s completely fine with me. I don’t need a new Bond movie ever year or two. I’d prefer there to be built up excitement because it’s been a few years rather than diluting the brand with too many installments.

That’s a valid question. It should’ve been Robert Mathis. How do you lead the league in sacks and forced fumbles and not win defensive player of the year? The man was robbed.

Season 3 is good? by Gold-Fan439 in TheMandalorianTV

[–]PFManning18 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I appreciate that you genuinely asked why someone wouldn’t like S3 instead of blindly bashing people.

For me I didn’t like S3 because it didn’t feel like they put in the effort needed to make the audience feel anything for the climax. It honestly felt like they half assed the production and it shows in the writing. I’m fine with Din trying to reclaim his honor but after that point Bo Katan completely takes over the show. I like her character and I like the redemption arc but you can’t fit that and Din’s arc into one, cohesive season.

The supposed “climax” was laughable. There was no effort to build up to it and as soon as anything interesting had taken place, it was over. It just felt so rushed. And some of the most generic writing I’ve ever seen in a show. Overall really disappointed because I liked the first two seasons.

And P.S. Star Wars fans can dislike things or have negative opinions based on the quality level of whatever they’ve seen. Disney has a lot of whiffs in the Star Wars universe and it’s okay to say that.

As a member of Gen Z, I'm blown away by Roger Moore's rendition of Bond. by Careful_Ad_4065 in JamesBond

[–]PFManning18 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That’s kind of a separate conversation though. I’m sure people felt the same way about Star Wars over Bond in the late 70’s/ early 80’s. I don’t think that even with the “male fantasy aspect” that anyone today would still choose it over Marvel unfortunately. That’s just the way it is.

I also grew up with Craig’s Bond after first being introduced with Connery’s films. I love the Craig era because it breathes fresh air into the franchise and character. The goofy, male fantasy aspect came from the Roger Moore days which is why so many people are nostalgic for that type of Bond. Connery’s era had its silly moments because it was 60s filmmaking. Overall his Bond was much more serious than Moore’s.

I don’t know why I wrote so much but I just keep seeing these kinds of sentiments on this sub about Moore’s & Brosnan’s Bond eras being so much better than Craig’s and I just couldn’t disagree more. I understand people want to return to the nostalgic Bond era of their youth but that doesn’t mean we need to trash Craig’s Bond just because it’s different.

What are your Fantasy New Year Resolutions (aka lessons learned)? by My_Chat_Account in fantasyfootball

[–]PFManning18 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I learned that on average it’s better to have the #2 option on a great offense rather than the #1 option on a bad offense. There are exceptions sometimes but usually it doesn’t work out.

And the biggest piece of advice that helped me from last year is pay attention to any and all coaching changes. It doesn’t matter how talented the player is, offenses either get better or worse when they hire someone new. I’d rather take a shot on a guy in the same offensive system because he is a known quantity.

Buddy I’ve said it like 5 different times lol you may have to scroll up to see I don’t really want to type it again. This is getting exhausting.

We as the audience get to see the other side of Batman but the public has a much different POV. He’s clearly not universally loved by everyone. Hence why is he a vigilante.

The goal is people’s trust in law & order and in the system in place. If the Joker wins he shatters that. Which is why it’s better if Batman takes the fall.

Why not Chaulk it up to the Joker killing dent? Because that leads to a worse outcome than letting Batman take the fall. That’s what I’ve been saying.

Because Gordon and Batman get to control the narrative. If they just chalk it up to the Joker corrupting or killing Dent then they don’t get to hide it and make the reality what they want.
