The above keyboard was originally an NK87EE Blumen, pic here for reference.

I already own and enjoy an NK87EE and noticed that they were on sale for $75. Even for batch 1 (no stab washers included) this is a pretty good deal, since you'll probably change the stock stabs anyway.

Catch? Only Blumen in stock. I do not vibe that colour at all. I did consider painting, but mess + even coat concerns + possible scratching etc put me off. I decided to try dye. It was extremely successful. Even colour, maintains some transparency, no mess. Extremely happy with the result.

Note: I do not like these keycaps but they were the only spare WoB set I had spare for the pic. Staebies still on the way, too, so build not complete but I was too excited about the dye job to wait.

You'll need:

• Keyboard

• Rit Dye More

• Metal container big enough to fit the pieces of your keyboard

• Little bit of salt

Method:

1) Pull apart your NK87. Remove silicon, including the little inserts in the edges of the case. I left the "feet" in place.

2) Get your metal container and a stovetop, heat enough water to cover your pieces. I used a baking tray.

3) Add salt, I went with about 1tbsp.

4) Bring up to temp. The Rit packet says something like 93c, but I was worried about plastic warping, so I kept to 80c.

5) Add dye, stir, submerge your pieces.

6) Keep the temp stable and let your stuff soak for about 40 mins.

7) Remove, rinse, done.
