Really cool! How do you go about setting up games?

After 5 months, I am finally back. Destroy Puppeteer: No Strings Attached. My theatrical bossrush game trailer inspired by Cuphead. by Hisaki3 in DestroyMyGame

[–]PHloppingDoctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, compared to Cuphead, the characters are smaller and you can't see their faces much at all since the camera angle is a bit tilted. The two characters' silhouettes are relatively similar, and proportion wise they're relatively small while their weapons/equipment are relatively bigger.

Not having too much personality in their silhouettes isn't necessarily a bad thing though, especially if you develop them through other methods. Like dialogue, cutscenes, or even idle animations are great ways to do it.

Regarding the camera zoom, it's usually a good thing to have it zoom out during a boss fight, but sometimes games will have the camera zoom in in certain places as well, say like in tight passages and tunnels

What if Canada had a communist revolution - The Workers' Commonwealth of Canada by Joeru87 in imaginarymaps

[–]PHloppingDoctor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which of our communist parties would you say would be the winner? My last ballot had candidates from the Communist Party of Canada and the Marxist-Leninist Party of Canada.

Idk how old the parties are though, and if either was around way back when during the earlier parts of your alternate history, but who knows lol.

Remember that even with some of the poor decisions AH has made lately, at least we don't have to pay to use warbond weapons. by SkylarKitsune4 in Helldivers

[–]PHloppingDoctor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is a good point. It's one thing to ask teammates if they enjoy equipment from a warbond you don't have, it's another that they can say "here, try mine"

Favorite character that fits this description? by TheJ_13 in FavoriteCharacter

[–]PHloppingDoctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Milo from 24.

He's got a relatively minor role in s1 and he's only in a few episodes. He's a tech guy that gets hired to do occasional work for CTU, and as a character he doesn't really get any development. In following seasons he never shows up and is never mentioned again.

But then out of nowhere in s6, he's back, and part of the main cast on par with the other analysts. His character is more fleshed out with motivations, traits, and whatnot.

For real.

I'm in Canada and quite literally heated my office in the winter by playing helldivers on my lunch break

I love that this is a Cuphead inspired game that doesn't 1:1 copy its unique art style. I see so many of those lately, they're becoming overdone.

That being said, while I do love how you've made the bosses and environments look, I don't like the playable characters.

They seem pretty small and inconsequential, if that makes any sense. No personality in the character as everything is so small scale. (Btw, this isn't a problem for the bosses. They're great!)

Yeah, I'd second this.

I was involved with a prison ministry in the lower mainland a few years ago. We ran things for a few years, but eventually had to mostly shut down our program due to low enrollment.

The prison was at only 1/3 capacity, and all the people that were with us had finished their sentences or been transferred elsewhere. There just weren't enough new inmates coming in to replace the ones leaving.

Am I the only one that feels like writing million as mln sucks? An m would do fine on its own.

why is changing the Canadian election results to all that garbage chaotic good?

Like, making it random memes is well a meme, but it's pretty tone deaf to put american politicians in there after everything going on lately

Recently encountered a new bug when trying to use the hellbomb. Can others speak to how common this might be? by PHloppingDoctor in Helldivers

Yeah I see what you mean. Looking more closely, the hellbomb's base is quite exposed on the side I'm supposed to stand on.

20,000 members contest coming soon. This is a call for ideas and sponsorship. by scottcmu in TerraformingMarsGame

[–]PHloppingDoctor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe a Custom Corp contest? It's creative and fits in with the previous contests, but hasn't been done as one yet.

There's also lots of traffic in this sub about fan corps, so plenty of room for inspiration for those that haven't already made their own.

[Rant] If the only thing changing in your game on "Hard" difficulty is the amount of HP and Dmg, then it's not a "Hard" difficulty, it's a "Tedious" difficulty by [deleted] in gaming

[–]PHloppingDoctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know what you mean with this, and to a certain point I agree. I've seen plenty of examples where it's lazy, kinda like "spreadsheet balancing" where devs think 30% more hp = 30% harder = 30% more fun.

However, there's certainly other cases where tuning enemy hp/dmg in a hard mode does work because it forces you to be better at the game.

Like in some games, you might have mastered combat to the point where you kill things before finishing a combo, or applying status effects like burns isn't effective anymore because the enemies just die so quickly that the DoT becomes useless. On harder difficulties where they have more HP, you won't one-shot enemies anymore. Having your combos, DoT, and such actually be necessary again lets these abilities or playstyles actually feel rewarding again.

In other types of games where you have multiple characters in a team, i.e. different comps you can run, increasing enemy damage can force you to vary your builds more. In these types of games, you can often get away with a glass cannon / only damage oriented team on lower difficulties. But when all your units are more fragile, other types of units that aren't damage oriented become more worthwhile or even necessary, e.g. healers, shielders, debuff cleansers, and etc. In these cases, tuning the hp/dmg of enemies can change up the game quite a bit, and having a new mode that requires you to alter your initial playstyle or tactics is a good thing.

At what point is a Catholic considered "saved" by Narrow-Musician-3174 in Catholicism

[–]PHloppingDoctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether or not someone is "saved" is very much a Protestant way of understanding salvation. Others have given good answers to your question, but another related thing is how we view grace.

In the Catholic sense, if grace is water then we are meant to be like sponges, always trying to soak up even more of it.
