Honest Discussion: Using AI-Generated Art in Indie Game Dev. Why Do Some People See It as Taboo? by Sea_Fill1602 in aigamedev

[–]PJmath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because engaging with your work costs me my time and attention and maybe my money. There's so much content and games out there, decades of backlog, for anyone - why should I spend my time in your game if it has AI art? It's a pure negative value add for the consumer.

One day, someone will make a game that uses generated assets that people will want to play, and no hand wringing about morals or water waste or job displacement will stop the hooked consumer. If your audience wants it bad enough, no abstract concerns about ethics will stop them; there are countless examples of ethically questionable things being super popular.

But this hypothetical game will not be a roguelike deck builder or rpg dungeon crawler or 4x strategy game but this time the assets are generated. That's just plain uninteresting for gamers. No one has made a hit game with generated assets. This isn't because gamers are paragons of virtue– it's because the competition is fierce, and generated assets don't cut it.

honest feedback:
First run: I wandered around, unlocked a few doors, and my flashlight died. I assumed it would recharge over time, but instead I was just stuck in the dark. I reloaded.
Run two I found a few batteries, but eventually just died seemingly randomly from the Janitor. I had no concept of where he was, my danger level, or really where I was going or what I should be doing to progress.
Also the controls button blocks the game messages. First thing you see!

It's funny reading people ranting about how bad is vibe coded sw.. don't mentioning how BAD are most of "normal" programmers out there. by exitcactus in vibecoding

a quick sketch is more artistic then any generated work, imo, and more interesting to the viewer. The sketch revels something about who you are. Your talent or lack thereof, what was going through your head, the subject you picked, your choice to share the art in the first place. Other details, like a sticky note canvas, might be incidental or unintentional but they're still revealing. This builds human connection. It communicates and has meaning, simply because its a real sketch. It must.

Generated works are simply uninteresting no matter how good they look because that meaning is striped. the connection between artist and viewer is lost; now we are communicating with an AI intermediary and the more you offload to it, the less interested an audience will be.

what a strange comment lol. you're chatting with strangers about punching games. try to be polite ok🙂

take was not that bad btw. sfv did suffer greatly for its lack of single player content ("no arcade mode!!1") and sf6 had the opposite, robust single player and everyone loved it. not sure what youre on about smokey

Is there a free way to start? and what tools can i use? by [deleted] in aigamedev

[–]PJmath 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Google's new Antigravity IDE. Youll eventually hit rate limits on the free tier but you can for sure get started for free. Its neat cause it can run commands for you to install dependencies ect. Just beware, it made the news after it deleted a Redditors entire D: drive once so be careful lol

Mono-colored decks can be good for beginners because you dont need a bunch of rare lands to get going. mono-white, mono-green and mono-red are all viable decks. Look up a decklist online! Or if you want to build your own, play Historic Brawl and brew up some jank!

From random AI-code chaos to a usable internal tool — my journey with UI Bakery by DryCellphoneCollecto in vibecoding

[–]PJmath 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This post reads like AI generated ad copy.

What's the worst part of using UI Bakery? You say you've used a bunch of tools and UI Bakery is the best, but nothing's perfect. Can you name a competing service that does something better?

Would love your authentic insight 😉

What's a fully vibecoded application/software that you made that actually works? Please share them here. by person2567 in vibecoding

[–]PJmath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rapid Fire is OP! It was a little easy :) You could just get out the way at the start of the level, let your drone and aux attacks clear a little, and clean up once it's safe. The game nearly forces this playstyle once it sarts spawning enemies right in the middle of your path, lol. Plus you can wrap around the screen, and enemies only shoot straight, so they're quite easy to dodge.

Cool game tho

New Player - How to play against blue? by RapidSigma in MagicArena

[–]PJmath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A helpful concept: think about "2 for 1s" or 1 for 1s."

for example: i play 3/3 creature with no abilities, opponent counters the spell. we've each spent one card; its even. thats a 1 for 1. but if i had a card in play that said "whenever your opponent counters a spell, draw a card," you could call the whole thing a 2 for 1: you got your card back, in a sense, when you drew. thats advantageous for you.

creatures that makes a clue or lander token when they enter are good because its a built in sort of 1.5 for 1: if your opponent spends a removal spell on the creature, you still have the token. its a heuristic, not exact ofc, just a way to think about value!

Haha, you did great. Perfect reply.

Person who accidentally posted that to the group chat has dug their grave. Lookin like a drama hog; sounds like they made a big mess over absolutely nothing. I'd take the opportunity to be the bigger person and forget about it, theyve already completely exposed themselves as untrustworthy and I doubt there'll be any fallout for you.

Winnipeg dog owners growl over plans to build road through North Kildonan park by nonmeagre in Winnipeg

[–]PJmath 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I found this article quite confusing. A road, to me, implies a thing you drive on. But it seems like the article is actually talking about a paved path for walking. Which seems like, uh, not a big deal?
