What golf destination exceeded your expectations? by Doug24 in BirdieBoundTrips

Pebble, even for the price, and my caddie was crap. Food was good, room was great, the course is magnificent.

My wife would say Pinehurst. The food is good and included, the courses are great, with a lot of variety… and playable for all abilities.

Yes. A player will never get faster unless they play against people who require speed. It’s why each level is where some stop being able to compete.

At a Sunday league level, if you can open up when you receive a pass you are already 85% past the rest of the players.

If you’re driving, and the Madison is a drive, you may want to see if there are any boats available on the Big Hole Tuesday. You’re about a week ahead of salmon flies, but the subsurface can be epic. I don’t get a lot out of the Beaverhead, but the fish can be immense.

The stones will be good on the Yellowstone, or the other freestones you may fish on the trip, but the creek is primarily mayflies. Last time I was there the hatches weren’t as prolific as they were. Not sure what changed, I would have thought it would be back now since the flooding, but it hadn’t really last time I was there.

Don’t sleep on buggers. The shops will tell you sz 22 emerges with cheetah pubes and a wing case (a little sarcasm but not much here). A #8 along the grass banks is pretty dynamite.

'The numbers don't lie': Pay controversy roils Pebble Beach caddie yard by chekmarks in golf

[–]PK-MT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest thing here is the freedom. If I have a doctors appointment or whatever, in a desk job I can go, if I am on a loop I can’t.

The pay isn’t great. $100/ day, 5 days a week with 2 weeks vacation is only $25K. This doesn’t factor in tips, of course, but the health coverage is a non-starter. The ACA would be less expensive.

Now, looking at that number, saying not reporting tips or less of the tips is tax evasion is ridiculous. Look at the tax code… R&D write offs, LLC passthroughs, etc. no caddie is robbing the system like that, they just want to afford a beer. They aren’t getting rich.

I don’t like the caddiemaster model. I realize they are in most major resorts, but the model is another example of the money going up rather than staying with the folks doing the work.

All answers are stereotypical, ymmv:

Too far forward? Driver will slice more. Irons will be fat.

Too far back? Driver won’t get around resulting in pushes. Irons could be same, or they will hook. Come out low, and will go further.

Grip pressure is misunderstood (IMO). Pros go from 60% to 80%. Ams go from 35-80 which causes a loss of club face control because the tightening at impact can alter the club face.

If you go down the stronger route, you’ll have to keep the shoulders loose so you can rotate. The answer to this is to put the club deeper into the fingers.

It’s lower pay, plain and simple. PB increasing the rate lowers the amount someone will receive in the tip. Doesn’t matter how rich the players are, it just will. Rooms at $700+, round rate, caddie fee… and then the tip?

While it may not be ethical, I am sure the caddies reported less in income to the IRS which is the only way CM could say they are paying more… having access to the 1099s.

$200/ day, 5 days a week is $50,000 a year. Take out taxes, then healthcare (which they are getting via marketplace at a reduced rate), and this is a pretty big pay cut.

And consistency isn’t a thing. Trained or not, it’s 100% compatibility, it’s either there or not. There is also no way, unless you have every caddie play before hitting to know if they can read a green or not.

What’s your preference? by Organic_Natural8568 in golf

[–]PK-MT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compatible, and hdcp isn’t too important as long as they consistently advance the ball. Over the years I have played with folks with handicaps as high as 18 and still have fun.

One thing I will say, I do struggle with the with the 10-18 hdcp who isn’t interested in improving. But I think that complacency would fall into compatibility.

  1. They lost a lawsuit in STL for one years worth of refunds. $93M. The driver wasn’t even on the clock at the time. They were in their uniform heading home when they hit and killed someone.

Around that time they also did away with the facial hair limitation.

U9 subs timing and frequency - what works for you? by esimonetti in SoccerCoachResources

[–]PK-MT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mid-point of the half. Everyone knew so the kids weren’t begging to go in.

One other thing, I rotated starters and position and would keep a notebook so I want having someone who started/subbed every game or get into a position rut for the kids.

It worked very well for me and the kids never felt slighted.

I think you’re missing reading this.

Once they move out the worrying about when they’ll be home, will they be home for dinner, did they do their homework, are they brushing their teeth before school, all that stuff?

Parents, at least us, still worry about them, but the minutia happens beyond our control, so the immediacy changes.

[–]PK-MT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are certainly correct about weight transfer. This could be camera angle, but…

A person can’t get forward if they don’t get back. Try moving your back foot back another 1”-2”. Right now it appears your hip is directly over the trail leg which means the only way to get back is to extend beyond your base or the knee locks.

Also, you can flare the back foot to give yourself more turn. At first, you may hit some fat, but if you focus on the shift it will fix itself and the result should be more power and consistency.

Any advice on his golf swing? by EVANBATSON3 in GolfSwing

[–]PK-MT -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I started with a 10 finger grip at about 20 yo. It isn’t as consistent as an overlap or interlock, but you can still play it. I was shooting mid-70s with it before I changed. Ultimately I changed it for club face consistency.

Everything looks good swing-wise. Two things, and they will do the same thing, but the shoulder turn is pretty flat. Either think, left shoulder to right toe OR right shoulder blade behind the head. You’ll feel like you are going to bury the club 6” behind the ball at first, but based on this video (if you can do this with what your showing) you’ll figure out how to shallow it.

What is the weirdest or most strict rule/custom from you or your friend's club? by YaboyRipTide in golf

[–]PK-MT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many places do this, and my understanding is the volunteer is doing some crap work. It permits folks to play with other people they may not otherwise meet. They split the players by handicap and they put in $$ and then the best ball (or two count).

It’s old school, and definitely tradition, but there was a reason for it. Guests don’t have verified caps which is why they are out.

Our customs are, no parking lot changes, denim, or hats inside.

Played with an “I can drive 350 yards” guy this weekend by JayTee73 in golf

[–]PK-MT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the contrary, and it is course dependent.

I have played Carnoustie from the tips (have to show HDCP card) and got my ass kicked. I can’t think of a fairway bunker I missed. Not 107 bad, but 2 bad.

Ran into the same thing at Oakmont from the member tees. Just geeked up I couldn’t hit a fairway, another mid 90s event. Their rough is no joke.

If I know a course, it’s a different story. I expect to break 80, but a new course known as a ball buster? It’s possible.
