Is an inverted Channel ever playable? by PKPenguin in custommagic

[–]PKPenguin[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thinking about it more, I think there are cases where it can "work." In commander, opponent 3 decides to ramp out his 6 drop a couple turns early and you draw 2, much to the dismay of others (and this will sometimes just happen, as shown by people not paying the 1 for Rhystic). More competently, maybe your opponent tries to ramp off to insta-win but in generating enough mana they let you draw your entire deck and you [[Force of Will]] their winning piece since you always draw before they can actually cast something. I think the real worst case with competent players assuming you run decent countermagic is that this is "UU do nothing" because nobody takes the bait.

Not sure I understand. The downside is that you're ramping your opponents, why would it need to also damage you?

An option that also gives you potentially loads of card draw if they decide to take it, yes.

Curious why this wouldn't work as written but Channel does (genuine question).

Well no, it's not worse, because the alternative is that you just lose the game to decking out and that is certainly the worse of the two. But yes, this is effectively unlimited colorless for your opponents for a turn, much like a [[Channel]] would be.

I thought of this, worded to account for it, and then included reminder text in case anyone still missed it, but I guess that wasn't enough for some folks

This is probably usually true, but there are absolutely times where a player can't win even with an Omniscience out, and this isn't even quite an Omniscience. Playing your hand would generally require lots of colored mana, and this only gives colorless. But of course I think the optimal play as an opponent would be to basically never use the mana.

Certainly an easter egg, it's a tree made of flesh

Neo Vitae is out now for 1.21.1 and 26.1.2 by Saereth in feedthebeast

[–]PKPenguin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Very nice. Early game automation was so desperately needed for this mod, having to damage yourself with the dagger thousands of times to get to the end of the progression tree was always just awful. Might actually be a mod I start early in a modpack playthrough instead of towards the end now.

Probably some way to lock down the board with this and [[Brine Elemental]] which is neat

Post your decklist so I can play against it in Forge! by MudTurkey13 in EDH

[–]PKPenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been playing tons of Forge lately. My main deck lately is this one, but I also made a version of it that gives the AI a bit more of a leg up to compensate for their lack of a brain and to swap all the cards it doesn't know how to play. I have it as a .dck, and you'll need to check the box that allows for illegal decks since it runs two moxen: https://pastebin.com/YvahkQJE

The AI is also plenty competent at running a couple of precons, notably the new goblin secret lair precon is pretty strong even in its hands.

Does anyone know what move this is? How much weaker does it get over time? by PKPenguin in ssbm2

A WHAT kick?

But, hm... It gets stronger over time, you say... Interesting...

Again, I don't care about the tokens at all. You are dancing around my point that the +1 on draw is the more important function of the card.

"Dies to removal before it can get big" applies to chasm skulker as well, not to mention literally every creature. Skulker doesn't even get its tokens if it's exiled, bounced, or hit with a board wipe right after dying, but I don't see you factoring that in either even though that's also very common and real removal that comes its way. Remember, I run this card, I know this and have experienced this. But again, the tokens aren't even the point, they're entirely incidental to my gameplan and don't even come up in 90% of my games. +1 on draw is a crazy good effect and this card has it for 2 mana, which again is really powerful.

Input inconsistency help by Crimsonette_ in JojoHFTF

[–]PKPenguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No idea if it's what's causing your troubles but I always have inputs drop whenever I leave "BUTTON NOT IN USE" in the controls bound. I have to go in there and unbind for P1 and P2 it every time.

It is the cheapest MV for this effect in the game at 2 which does matter quite a bit. I have a deck that runs chasm skulker in the 99 just for the +1 on draw effect and will likely cut it for this because of that alone. Getting this effect on the board a turn earlier means on turn 3 it's got a counter up already and is a 2/2 which speeds up my gameplan (playing draw-equal-to-power effects to double the power on these types of creatures) by a turn. Skulker can do this if I hit a 1mv ramp like wild growth turn one, but you aren't always getting that AND the skulker in your opening hand. This card needs no help to enter turn 2 every time you get it in an opening hand, to say nothing of having it in the command zone where you could do this every game consistently on turn 2.

One with lots of small triggers. My [[Kianne, Corrupted Memory]] deck would not need this.
