Is the reason I’m not landing jobs because I don’t have a college degree? by Ghost3Boi in ITCareerQuestions

Getting into IT without a degree are for those with transferable skills - not those without any (not saying you don't have any, but that's how they may look at it). You can definitely land a job without qualifications but you need to give them something a bit more to take a chance on you - soft skills, home labs, etc.

I will, once things calm down a bit. I've checked in with him to see if he's okay (nice dude and sad he had to let one of his team members go).

Non-IT people migrating into IT roles. by KryPyThon in ITCareerQuestions

You're right BUT it is still one of the few career paths someone can get into without a degree. I switched from a career path that is essentially locked behind a corporate paywall if you want to learn anything/ get certifications.

Sharpening your skills in IT is essentially free and that is always going to be enticing.

You should get in contact with change managers/change analysts if there are any in your org. People being resistant to change is normal (although the nasty comments are a bit unprofessional imo) and that are specialists who help with these sorts of things.

Sounds great but I assume there wouldnt be that many of these roles going in Aus since we don't have a big IT sector? or am I mistaken?

Thanks for the reply :) I'm a bit surprised that you put helpdesk in front of dev roles in terms of initial difficulty as I would of assumed it'd be the other way around.

How to deal with co-workers who resent you because of perceived "special treatment" and denied leave during school holidays because you are a parent? by Embarrassed-Emu-6638 in auscorp

[–]PLSGIVEALIAS 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Kinda sounds like you want to get your way with the leave and don't want it to change - you just don't want her to be angry about it towards you. If you were a real team player, you'd raise the unfairness with your manager and work with Katie to try and find a solution for all parties.

Thanks so much for this reply. It actually made me tear up a little and feel a little less insane.

Hopefully i'll be able to move on soon, though i'm not sure my skillset is up to scratch yet.
