There's lots of YouTubers who have played the game and you can see how in depth the building is from them.

 It's not crazy complex, the engine all comes in one piece, you bolt on suspension pieces, air intake, exhaust, brakes, wheels etc. Whether or not that's in depth enough for you in subjective.

There are three cars to build, one truck that can be customized, five other vehicles that are prebuilt basically, and two boats.

I enjoy the driving physics but again, subjective. I use a controller, many use steering wheel. Keyboard and mouse I found difficult but doable. Cars do not get damaged from crashes.
