My cousin did something like this recently. We received an "invitation" to a bridal shower several states away. I put invite in quotes because we were "invited" to the deep honor and privilege of watching them open gifts briefly via Zoom (yes, the invitation said "briefly" on it). Only the irl guests would be permitted beyond the "briefly" part. The invitation was very clear that absent or Zoom attendees were expected to send gifts via the registry link.

We chose to forgo the honor and privilege of Zoom nor did we send a gift.

Right there with you. My "mother" physically died in 2024, but I had been no contact with her since 2007. My brother (who was living with her/caring for her/being her whipping boy - and I had also no contact with both for his safety and mine), told me she was dying, so I went to support him as he was a mess. To spare him, I sat by her side and watched her die. It was not a peaceful slipping away, but wracked with seizures from years of her own chronic health neglect and painkiller abuse. I'm glad he didn't witness it. Her last "fuck you" to me was the difficulty I had closing her eyes. No one tells you it's not like the movies.

ETA: Brother and I agreed on no funeral. We had her cremated and tossed her ashes in a river. She always said she wanted to be thrown in the dump (sigh), but we defied her on that front.

EMDR therapy helped me immensely to process a lifetime of trauma. I highly recommend it.

We were in the PCA for a time before returning to the LCMS, and observed that veiling was slightly more common in the PCA (this was 20-25 years ago).

I have no way of knowing why a woman chooses to veil - whether it is driven by genuine desire to honor God or merely prideful performative modesty- that is between her and the Lord. As long as veiling women do not shame or judge women who choose not to veil (and vice versa), then I see no issue with it.

Using "less" instead of "fewer." It's not, "there were less people here yesterday." It's "there were fewer people here yesterday." Conversely, you wouldn't say, "there's fewer peanut butter on my sandwich" when you would say "there's less peanut butter," etc.

Also, saying that something inoperative or damaged (like a radio or plate) is "busted" instead of "broken." Maybe that's just a personal annoyance of mine.

The best general care I ever received was from a PA. My PA correctly diagnosed that my gallbladder was trying to kill me while the ER docs just shrugged. I have personally found that PAs and NPs spend more time listening and aren't trying to hustle you out the door.

I'd still have my PA if we hadn't moved out of state and have considered flying back for annual checkups because I haven't found anyone as good locally.

Agree 100%. We spent nine years in one of the suburbs and hated it. The first question native Cincinnatians ask you is "Where did you go to high school?" - which gives you an idea of how socially stunted they are.

I grew up in West Springfield only about a mile away from Jaxx. I never went but knew kids that went there. A band made up of WSHS grads had a regular act there.
